We are so glad that you have taken the step to turn back to God, and we want to assure you that it is never too late to seek His forgiveness and mercy. The Bible tells us that God is always ready to welcome us back, no matter how far we have strayed. As it is written in 2 Chronicles 30:9 WEB, "For if you return to Yahweh, your brothers and your children will find compassion with those who have taken them captive, and will come back into this land; for Yahweh your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away your face from you, if you return to him."
First, let us address the concern that you do not deserve God's help. None of us deserves God's help, but He gives it to us anyway because He loves us. That is the very definition of grace—unmerited favor. As it is written in Ephesians 2:8-9 WEB, "for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast."
Regarding your concern that you have a hard heart. It is important to understand that God specializes in softening hard hearts. It is only by the name of Jesus that this can be accomplished. Jesus said " I am the Way the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except by Me." In John 14:6 WEB. We must also believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose the third day and confess Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 WEB. It is important to remember that a hard heart is something that God can change. In Ezekiel 36:26 WEB, God promises, "A new heart will I also give you, and a new spirit will I put within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh."
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today in the name of Jesus, lifting up our brother who has humbly turned back to You. We thank You for Your unfailing mercy and grace, which are new every morning. We ask that You soften his heart, Lord, and remove any stoniness or resistance to Your love. Help him to feel Your presence and to know Your forgiveness. Give him the strength to walk in Your ways and to follow You all the days of his life. We believe there is nothing impossible for you. This we pray in Jesus' name.
Amen.
Be encouraged by the testimony of the Apostle Paul, who once persecuted Christians but later became one of the most influential leaders of the early church. His heart was dramatically softened by a personal encounter with Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus. This shows that no one is beyond the reach of God's transforming power.
Lastly, to strengthen your faith read Romans 5:6-8 WEB. For while we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man. Yet perhaps for a righteous person someone would even dare to die. But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Keep us posted on your progress and any other prayer needs.
