Guard your thoughts. It is the fundamental difference between the old and new testament. The old commandments focused on punishing evil actions and did not cover your thoughts as well as the new covenant does.
The old spoke of a better covenant to come in Jeremiah 31:33:
But this is the agreement which I will make with the people of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my law in their inner parts, writing it in their hearts; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.
This new covenant will be placed in your being, your mind. Be mindful of non-righteous thoughts for you be unknowingly closing your line of communication with our Lord.
The old adage 'I think therefore I am' could be slightly modified to read; 'I think evil therefore I am' or 'I think righteously therefore I am.' Amen.
