Guidance

Asking for guidance foe my life. We're thinking about ending our relationship with my fiancé and it's really hard. Asking for wisdom to make the right choice

We are lifting you up before the Lord in this very difficult and weighty season and we thank you for reaching out for wisdom. We know how painful it is to wrestle with the future of an engagement and we are praying with you for clear guidance and peace that comes from God alone.

We want to gently point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ and we cannot come before the Father except through Him. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And as it is written in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name in all you do. It is in His name we pray and seek wisdom.

The Lord promises to give wisdom when we ask Him. James 1:5 says, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. And Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. We are praying that God will make your path straight and give you discernment that goes beyond feelings or pressure.

We believe marriage is a sacred and lifelong covenant between a man and a woman as God designed from the beginning. Genesis 2:24 says, Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. And Matthew 19:6 says, So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart. Because of this, an engagement is not something to enter or to end lightly. It is a solemn promise moving toward that covenant. At the same time, we should not enter into a marriage that would not honor God.

We encourage you to examine this courtship in the light of Scripture. A fiance relationship should be a time of courtship with the goal of godly marriage to another Christian believer, not simply a partnership of convenience or emotion. 2 Corinthians 6:14 asks, Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity. Is your fiance a committed follower of Jesus Christ who seeks to lead and love as Christ loves the church. Are you both seeking purity and holiness together. If there has been sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we must lovingly rebuke that, for Scripture calls it fornication and calls us to flee from it. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Living together or being sexually active before marriage does not align with God’s will and will cloud clear judgment. If this is part of your situation, we urge you to repent and to pursue purity from this day forward, honoring God with your bodies.

We encourage you to seek wise godly counsel together and separately from a pastor or mature believers who know you both, and to spend much time in prayer and in the Word. Psalm 32:8 reminds us, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. God desires to guide you.

We now pray together for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. You see the heaviness and the confusion and the ache in this decision about this engagement. Lord, pour out Your wisdom liberally and give clarity. Help this dear one to trust You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding. Reveal whether this marriage would honor You and be built on shared faith in Christ and commitment to Your truth. If there is sin, bring conviction and repentance and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. If there is fear or pressure from others, quiet it with Your peace. Lead by Your Holy Spirit and close the doors that should be closed and open the doors that should be opened. Give courage to obey You, whether that means stepping forward into a Christ centered marriage or stepping away with grace and truth. We pray for Your will to be done and for Your name to be glorified in this life. Draw this dear one closer to Jesus and let Your perfect love cast out fear. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking the Lord daily, to remain in Scripture, and to wait on Him for peace that surpasses understanding. Jeremiah 29:11 says, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. God loves you and desires your holiness and your joy in Him. We are continuing to pray for wisdom, courage, and clear direction for you.

We are so glad you reached out. Facing the possibility of ending an engagement is painful and confusing, and it makes sense you are asking for wisdom. This is one of the biggest decisions you will make, and wanting to get it right before God is a good and honest desire.

When the emotions are this strong it can be hard to hear clearly what is wisdom and what is just fear or pressure. It often helps to create a little space to listen well. We have found it helps to bring one or two wise, steady people into the process who know you both and can ask honest questions, not just tell you what to do. A trusted pastor or a counselor who shares your faith can help you sort through what you are seeing and feeling, what patterns you notice, and what a healthy marriage would require going forward. If you have not had premarital counseling together, that could be a helpful next step before any final decision, even if you are leaning toward stepping back.

You do not have to rush to certainty today. Keep bringing your questions honestly to the Lord and let those conversations with wise counsel help you test what you sense.

Father, we ask You to give our friend clarity, peace and courage in these days. Quiet the noise and help them see truth with grace. Surround them with wise counsel and guide each step. Lead them in Your will and draw them close to You through it all. In Jesus' name, amen.

Thank you Heavenly Father for blessing us with another day, and for all you do for all of us. All glory and honor belongs to you Father. I lift this prayer up on your glory Father God and ask that you grant your perfect will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There are seasons when the way before us appears as a trackless waste and the soul feels its need of a compass. Your request speaks of such a season, and it is right and wise to seek guidance rather than to go the way the current goes without thought.

Wisdom is man's true path, that which enables him to accomplish best the end of his being, and it is the compass by which we must steer across the waste of life. Without it we are as the wild ass's colt, running here and there and wasting strength which might be profitably employed. But where shall this wisdom be found. The price of it is above rubies and it shall not be valued with pure gold. It is not found in the learning of this age, for the human wisdom of one age is the folly of the next, and there is not much more wisdom in man's judgment of God than in the flies fabled judgment of an elephant. True wisdom is found in Christ, who is the power of God and the wisdom of God. He planned the way of salvation and by His skill the heavens were built, and in His word is the highest of all sciences. If you would find wisdom, you must find it in the word of revelation and in simple trust in God, for trust in God is true wisdom.

Faith alone enabled Moses to arrive at his decision and to carry it out. His choice was not to be accounted to eccentricity, neither was he hurried on by some sudden excitement when there burned within his soul fierce fires which made him more fervent than prudent. He had faith in Jehovah and therefore he could make a clear decision when he was come to years. So it must be with you. A decision of such weight as that of marriage is not to be made in haste nor upon the impulse of feeling, but with deliberate faith, with prayer, and with a heart prepared for the Lord. Put away the strange gods and prepare your hearts for the Lord, for mere outward reformation is not enough. Return unto the Lord with all your hearts, and if we expect God to be wholly for us we must be wholly for Him and keep back nothing from His control.

You do well to remember what marriage is. It is not a relationship of original birth but a covenant affinity, exceedingly near of kin, and when the Lord speaks of it He assumes all the responsibilities which belong to that condition. Whatever relationship there was between God and man was stamped out by the Fall, and we were aliens and strangers far off by wicked works, yet Christ has espoused our nature and linked humanity to Himself. Earthly marriage is meant to reflect that faithful, covenant love. It is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and sex and living together belong only within it. For this reason it is never to be entered lightly or unadvisedly, but reverently and in the fear of God. Hesitation and wavering can answer no purpose, but a prompt and thorough decision, openly declared and honestly owned before God and before godly witnesses, is in every way commendable.

Therefore seek the Lord with importunity for that fear of the Lord which is the beginning of wisdom. Bring your case before Him in the light of Scripture, not asking Him to subvert His wisdom or to change the ordinances of His Kingdom, but submitting your petitions to His Word. Seek also the counsel of mature and faithful believers who know you and who will deal honestly with your souls, who will ask whether you are equally yoked in Christ, whether there is unrepentant sin or unfaithfulness that would make a covenant unwise, and whether your affections are governed by faith or by mere excitement. Ask yourselves, if you could lay aside all profession and begin again, would you still make this choice before God with a clear conscience. That question, answered in the presence of God, will do much to reveal the path of wisdom.

May the Lord grant you not the wisdom of Egypt or of this present age, but that heavenly wisdom which comes from above, which is pure and peaceable. May He give you faith in Jehovah to see His hand, to trust that what He does is always best, and to say, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. May He steady your hearts to prepare them fully for Him, to be thorough in your decision, and to walk in the way of wisdom as far as mortal man can walk therein, with your hand lifted unto God so that you cannot go back from what is right.

I pray that God will compass you with His counsel, that He will make your way plain through His Word, through prayer, and through the wise counsel of His people, and that whether He leads you to go forward together in holy marriage or to turn aside from it, you may do so not from eccentricity or sudden passion but from faith, with a conscience void of offence and a heart wholly given to Christ, in whom alone is salvation.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing so honestly about this painful and weighty decision. Facing the possible end of an engagement is deeply difficult, and it is right that you are asking God for wisdom rather than relying only on feelings or the advice of the world around you.

Scripture teaches that true wisdom does not come from this world, which is passing away, but from God himself. The wisdom of the world often seems sensible in the moment but cannot give lasting guidance or peace. The wisdom God gives is different. He makes us wise in what is truly wise, showing us His will and His ways, often through His Word, through prayer, and through the counsel of mature believers. James promises that if anyone lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.

In a time like this, it is wise to slow down and seek the Lord with a clear and honest heart. Marriage as God designed it is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, not to be entered into lightly or without deep conviction. Because of that, an engagement is a serious promise, and the decision to continue toward marriage or to step away should be made with prayer, humility, and careful thought, not in haste.

As you seek wisdom, consider bringing these questions before the Lord and before trusted, biblically grounded counsel such as a pastor or a mature Christian mentor who knows you both:

Seek the Lord in Scripture and prayer daily, asking Him to reveal what is in your hearts and to align your desires with His will, not just with what feels easier in the moment.

Examine the reasons for the struggle with honesty. Are there concerns about faith in Christ, character, trust, communication, or shared understanding of what marriage will require? Are there unresolved patterns that would only grow stronger in marriage? Or are these fears and pressures that can be addressed through counsel, repentance, and growth?

Seek godly counsel together and separately. Others who know you and who walk faithfully with Christ can often see clearly what is hard to see when you are hurting.

Consider purity and preparation for marriage. If you are living together or sexually involved, God calls His people to live differently, reserving that intimacy for within the marriage covenant. Choosing to honor Him in this area can bring greater clarity.

Remember that God’s wisdom often appears as foolishness to the world, and the world’s wisdom can appear foolish in light of eternity. Do not make this choice based only on what others expect or what seems least painful now, but on what is faithful and true before God.

I pray for you now that God will give you clear wisdom, humility to hear His voice, courage to follow what is right, and peace that comes from trusting Him even in uncertainty. May He guide your steps, guard your hearts in Christ, and help both of you to seek Him first, trusting that He loves you and will lead you toward what is good and holy. If you do not have a pastor walking with you through this, please reach out to one soon so you are not carrying this burden alone.

Your request for wisdom is itself a wise and humble step, and God delights to answer that kind of prayer. Scripture says wisdom is the most important thing you can pursue, more valuable than riches or anything else you might desire, and with all your seeking, to seek understanding as well.

The beginning of that wisdom is a right relationship with God, a reverent fear of the Lord and trust in Him as your Father. He does not want a distant or ritual connection with you, but a close, loving relationship where you can come to Him honestly. When you come that way, wisdom is not hidden or far off. It is crying out to be heard, inviting you to come and receive.

In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, so to seek wisdom is to seek Him. One of the kings in Scripture simply asked God for wisdom to make right decisions for the people entrusted to him, and God was pleased with that request and generously gave it. In the same way, God invites you to ask. If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives generously without finding fault.

It helps to remember the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge gives you facts, but wisdom shows you how to apply truth rightly in real life. There is a wisdom that comes from the world, and it often leads to confusion, envy and strife, and in the end it comes to nothing. There is another wisdom, the wisdom that comes from above. That wisdom leads to purity, peace, gentleness, and good fruit, and you can recognize it by what it produces in a life.

As you face this very hard decision about your engagement, bring it fully before the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Marriage in Scripture is presented as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, a sacred commitment not to be entered lightly, and the time of engagement is meant to be a time of purity and careful, honest consideration. Ask God to show you what honors Him, what is pure and true, and what leads to lasting peace rather than pressure or confusion.

Do not walk through this alone. Share openly with mature believers who know you, who love Jesus and will speak truth with grace, and who can help you see clearly. Ask the Lord to preserve you and keep you as you love and pursue His wisdom, and trust that as you seek Him first, He will guide your steps.

I am praying that God will pour out His Spirit of wisdom and understanding upon you, that He will quiet your heart with His love, give you clarity from His Word, and lead you to the choice that most honors Him and is truly best for you both.
