We stand with you in faith, lifting up the sin of greed before the throne of grace, for Scripture warns us clearly: *"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows."* (1 Timothy 6:10 WEB). Greed is not merely a struggle with finances—it is a heart condition that exalts possessions above the Provider, that clings to earthly treasures while neglecting the eternal. It distorts priorities, breeds discontent, and erects idols in the place where only Christ should reign.
We rebuke the spirit of greed in every life it has touched—whether in hoarding wealth, envying others, or chasing material gain at the expense of generosity, integrity, or worship. The Lord calls us to a different standard: *"Let your way of life be free from the love of money, being content with what you have, for He has said, 'I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.'"* (Hebrews 13:5 WEB). True contentment is found not in accumulation, but in abiding in Christ, who alone satisfies the deepest longings of the soul.
Father, we come before You now, confessing that in our weakness, we have all been tempted by greed in one form or another. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have valued things over people, security over surrender, or comfort over Your call to sacrificial love. Cleanse our hearts from the love of money and teach us to hold loosely to the gifts You entrust to us, that we may use them for Your glory and the good of others.
We pray for those bound by greed—whether in debt, in envy, or in the relentless pursuit of more. Break the chains of materialism, Lord, and replace them with a spirit of generosity. Open our eyes to the needs around us, that we may give freely, as You have given to us. Remind us that *"it is more blessed to give than to receive"* (Acts 20:35 WEB), and that true wealth is measured not in bank accounts, but in the riches of Your grace and the treasure of souls won for Your kingdom.
We declare that our sufficiency is in Christ alone. May our lives reflect the truth of Your Word: *"Seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."* (Matthew 6:33 WEB). Let us not store up treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume, but in heaven, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys (Matthew 6:19-20). May our hearts be set on things above, not on the things that are on the earth (Colossians 3:2).
We also pray for wisdom in stewardship, Lord. Teach us to manage the resources You’ve given us with faithfulness and discernment. May we be found trustworthy with little, so that You may entrust us with much (Luke 16:10). Guard us from the deception of greed, which whispers that we never have enough, and instead, fill us with gratitude for Your daily provision.
Finally, we ask that You would raise up a generation of believers who walk in radical generosity, who see money as a tool for ministry rather than an end in itself. May the Church be known not for what it accumulates, but for what it gives away—for love, for justice, for the spread of the Gospel. Let our lives be living testimonies of Your provision, that others may see and glorify You.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who though He was rich, yet for our sakes became poor, that we through His poverty might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9). Amen.
