You speak of being terribly attacked every hour, of oppression and disunity. This is the true danger. The enemy does not chiefly threaten your body or your purse, but your peace and your family bond. Paul sat in chains, yet his disciples grew more confident because they saw the preaching unhindered. Can you bind the tongue of an evangelist? No, the word runs more freely. Even so, can the malice of neighbors bind your soul unless you yield? If you are freed from the love of riches and soft living, but remain slack in hearing God’s word with fortitude, no single part is sufficient for salvation. The seed must fall on good ground: careful hearing, continual recollection, then contempt for worldly anxiety.

I do not despise your request for healing or relief from debt. But ask with this mind: the greater miracle is to serve those who suffer even when your own body fails. You fear you cannot fall sick because you must care for your mother. That very fear, when lifted to God, becomes a sacrifice more precious than any sudden cure. The power that both punishes and heals knows your frame. He who withered the fig tree now shows mercy. He calls forth those who do not even dare to ask. Endure these twenty days and the changed marks on your skin as Job endured his sores, not demanding the reason, but clinging to the Giver of life. True deliverance from satanic assault comes not from a single prayer, but from a life that leaves no foothold for the enemy: a quiet trust that starves his provocations, a united family that refuses the discord he sows. Beseech deliverance from evil, yes above all, from the evil within that makes outward attacks so painful. That is the miracle worth seeking.
