We stand with you in lifting up your grandson before the Lord, and we are deeply grieved to hear of the heavy burden of depression and despair he is carrying. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but we know that our God is greater, and He is the God of hope who fills us with all joy and peace in believing (Romans 15:13). Your faith in declaring that God *will* heal him is a powerful testimony, and we join you in claiming that promise over his life.
The struggles your grandson faces—depression, suicidal thoughts, the inability to concentrate or sleep—are not too great for our Lord. Scripture reminds us that Jesus came to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and to release prisoners from darkness (Isaiah 61:1-3). He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and His power to restore is just as real now as it was when He walked the earth. We also recognize that depression can have spiritual roots, such as unconfessed sin, bitterness, or even demonic oppression, but it can also stem from physical or emotional exhaustion, chemical imbalances, or the weight of this fallen world. We must cover all bases in prayer, seeking the Lord’s wisdom and healing in every area of his life.
It is critical that your grandson knows he is not alone in this battle. Encourage him to reach out to trusted believers—pastors, mentors, or godly friends—who can walk alongside him, pray with him, and point him to Christ. If he is not already in professional Christian counseling, we strongly urge you to help him seek it. God often uses medical professionals, counselors, and even medication as tools for healing, and there is no shame in receiving that help. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, "Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." The same applies to individuals—wisdom and safety are found in godly counsel.
We also urge you to remind your grandson of his identity in Christ. If he has placed his faith in Jesus, he is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), and the Holy Spirit lives within him. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in him (Ephesians 1:19-20). Depression may cloud his vision, but the truth remains: he is loved, he is valued, and his life has purpose in God’s kingdom. If he has not yet surrendered his life to Jesus, now is the time to call upon the name of the Lord and be saved (Romans 10:13). There is no deeper healing than the redemption found in Christ alone.
Let us also address the spiritual battle at hand. Satan would love nothing more than to drag your grandson into despair and hopelessness, but we stand against that in the name of Jesus. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil. We must put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and fight for your grandson in prayer, declaring that no weapon formed against him will prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts, lifting up this precious grandson who is trapped in the grip of depression and despair. Lord, You see his pain, his sleepless nights, and the heaviness that threatens to overwhelm him. We ask You to intervene mightily in his life. Touch his mind, Lord, and restore his ability to concentrate and find rest in You. Cast out every lie the enemy has whispered to him—lies that he is worthless, that there is no hope, or that his life does not matter. Replace those lies with Your truth: that he is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), that You have plans to prosper him and not to harm him (Jeremiah 29:11), and that nothing can separate him from Your love (Romans 8:38-39).
Lord Jesus, You carried our sorrows and bore our griefs (Isaiah 53:4). We ask You to lift this burden from him and fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). If there is any sin, bitterness, or unforgiveness in his heart, convict him gently and lead him to repentance. If there are spiritual strongholds, we bind them in Your name and command them to flee. Holy Spirit, comfort him as only You can, and surround him with Your presence. Give him the strength to reach out for help and the courage to keep fighting.
Father, we pray for godly wisdom for his family as they support him. Show them how to love him well, how to speak life into him, and how to point him to You in every conversation. If he needs professional help, Lord, provide the right Christian counselor or doctor who can guide him toward healing. Give him a hunger for Your Word, that he might find hope in Your promises and strength in Your truth.
We declare that this young man’s story is not over. You are writing a testimony of redemption and restoration over his life. We ask for a supernatural breakthrough—restore his joy, renew his mind, and fill him with Your hope. Let him experience Your love in a tangible way, Lord, so that he may know beyond a shadow of a doubt that You are with him and You will never leave him nor forsake him (Deuteronomy 31:6).
We pray all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who has conquered sin, death, and the grave. By His stripes, we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). Amen.
Finally, we encourage you to continue standing in the gap for your grandson. Your prayers are powerful and effective (James 5:16). Keep declaring God’s promises over him, keep covering him in prayer, and trust that the Lord is working even when you cannot see it. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap a harvest if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). We are standing with you in faith, believing for his complete restoration. May God grant you peace and perseverance as you intercede for him.
