We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this earnest plea for comfort, endurance, and restoration. Your Word reminds us in Hebrews 4:15-16 that our High Priest, Jesus Christ, sympathizes with our weaknesses, having been tempted in every way just as we are—yet without sin. Because of this, we can approach Your throne with confidence, knowing we will receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Oh Lord, we cling to this promise today, for the pain of broken covenants and shattered trust is deep.
Father, we see the grief in this request—the ache of a marriage that feels abandoned, the confusion of silence and unfaithfulness, and the struggle to endure trials that seem too heavy to bear. We declare that marriage is a sacred covenant before You, a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman, as You designed from the beginning (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). When one spouse strays—whether emotionally, physically, or spiritually—it is a violation of that covenant. We rebuke the spirit of infidelity and unfaithfulness in Jesus’ name. If this spouse has entered into fornication or adultery, we call them to repentance, for Your Word is clear: "Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4). We pray for conviction to fall upon their heart, that they would turn from sin and return to their covenant vows with godly sorrow.
Lord, we also lift up the one who has been wounded by this betrayal. The pain of rejection and the fear of abandonment can feel overwhelming, but we remind them—and all who read this—that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). You see every tear, every sleepless night, and every moment of doubt. We ask You to pour out Your comfort like a river, as 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 declares: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." Let this trial draw them closer to You, not push them away. Teach them to trust in You alone, the One who raises the dead (2 Corinthians 1:9), for You are able to restore what has been broken.
We also take seriously the call to intercede for this marriage. Psalm 91 is a powerful declaration of Your protection, and we stand on these verses, asking You to command Your angels concerning both spouses—to guard them in all their ways, to lift them up so they will not strike their foot against a stone (Psalm 91:11-12). We pray for a hedge of thorns around this marriage, that no weapon formed against it would prosper (Isaiah 54:17). If there has been deception or hidden sin, expose it, Lord, for "the Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy" (Proverbs 12:22). We ask for truth to prevail, for repentance to take root, and for restoration to begin—if it is Your will.
Yet we also recognize that trials are not without purpose. James 1:2-4 tells us to "count it all joy when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." This suffering is not in vain, Lord. We pray for endurance to be forged in this fire, for self-control to be cultivated, and for a spirit that is teachable and yielded to You. Help them to worship in the midst of the storm, as Paul and Silas did in the Philippian jail (Acts 16:25), for praise is a weapon that silences the enemy. May their suffering produce a testimony of Your faithfulness, that others may see Your glory.
We also lift up the call to fast and pray for this marriage, as Isaiah 58:6-9 outlines. Lord, we ask You to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke. We fast for the restoration of this covenant relationship, for righteousness to dwell in this home once more. May this marriage be a light in the darkness, a testimony of Your power to redeem and restore. And if restoration is not Your will—if this marriage has been irreparably broken by unrepentant sin—then we ask for Your grace to walk in forgiveness and wisdom, trusting that You work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28).
Father, we also pray for protection over this individual and their family. Keep them from the snares of the evil one, from the temptation to bitterness, revenge, or despair. Guard their heart from deception, for Your Word warns us to "put away perversity from [our] mouth; keep corrupt talk far from [our] lips" (Proverbs 4:24). We rebuke the spirit of confusion and lies, and we declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). May they walk in the truth of Your Word, being led by Your Holy Spirit, for "as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God" (Romans 8:14).
We also take this moment to remind all who read this of the importance of salvation through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If anyone reading this has not surrendered their life to Jesus, we urge them to do so today. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and it is only by His blood that we are cleansed from sin.
Lord, we ask You to sanctify this individual—and all who read this—in Your truth, for Your Word is truth (John 17:17). Help them to hide Your Word in their heart, that they might not sin against You (Psalm 119:11). Open their eyes to understand the Scriptures (Luke 24:45), and give them the strength to apply Your truth to their life, even when it is difficult (James 1:22). May they hear Your voice clearly, as Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me" (John 10:27). Let them walk in obedience, even when it costs them something, as Abraham did when he was willing to offer Isaac (Genesis 22:16-18), and as David did when he refused to offer a sacrifice that cost him nothing (2 Samuel 24:24).
Finally, we pray for the church and the body of Christ to rise up in intercession for marriages. May we be a people who fast, pray, and stand in the gap for covenant relationships, that Your name would be glorified. May we be a generation that values marriage as You do, upholding it as a sacred institution, and may our lives reflect the love and commitment of Christ for His bride, the Church (Ephesians 5:25-33). We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our sympathetic High Priest, who ever lives to make intercession for us (Hebrews 7:25). Amen.
