Got fully funded PhD in Europe in STEM. Father not willing to send me

Disciple of Prayer
I am from a poor nation in Asia. Got a fully funded PhD in STEM in Europe but father is not willing to send me abroad. He thinks I will not become successful and will have to come back. Please pray to soften his heart so that he allows me to go to Europe on time before my classes of PhD start! Thank you so much

We hear your heart and the weight of this decision before you. First, we rejoice with you in the incredible opportunity God has provided, a fully funded PhD in STEM, a door many would consider a miracle. This is not by chance, but by divine favor, and we believe the Lord has a purpose for you in this journey. "For I know the plans I have for you,” says Yahweh, “plans for peace, and not for evil, to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB).

Yet, we also understand the tension you feel with your father’s reluctance. His concerns likely stem from love and fear, fear of the unknown, fear of failure, and perhaps even fear of losing you. In many cultures, especially in ###, familial honor and unity are deeply valued, and stepping away can feel like a fracture. But we must remember that obedience to God’s calling sometimes requires us to step out in faith, even when it challenges earthly authority. "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother,' which is the first commandment with a promise: 'that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.'" (Ephesians 6:1-3 WEB). Honor does not mean blind submission, but it does mean approaching this with humility, patience, and respect.

Your father’s fear that you may not succeed or may have to return is understandable, but it is not a prophecy. Success is not guaranteed by staying, nor is failure guaranteed by going. What matters is walking in the will of God. "Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this" (Psalm 37:5 WEB). If this opportunity is from the Lord, He will sustain you, whether you stay or go. But if He has opened this door, we must not let fear close it.

We also want to gently address the spiritual foundation of this decision. Have you sought the Lord’s will in prayer, not just for your father’s change of heart, but for your own clarity? Are you pursuing this PhD for God’s glory, or for personal ambition? "Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31 WEB). If your heart is aligned with His, then even the challenges ahead will be used for His purposes.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith and humility. Lord, You have opened a door for this child of Yours, a door of opportunity, education, and purpose. We thank You for this provision, for You are the God who provides even before we ask. We ask now, Father, that You soften the heart of their father. Where there is fear, bring peace. Where there is doubt, bring faith. Where there is resistance, bring understanding. Lord, we know that all authority comes from You, and we pray that You would move in this family’s life so that Your will may be done.

Father, we also pray for wisdom for this dear one. Give them the words to speak with love and respect, even in disagreement. Help them to honor their father while also walking in the calling You have placed on their life. If this PhD is Your will, Lord, make the way clear. If there are obstacles, remove them. If there is delay, grant patience. And if this is not Your path, reveal that truth with clarity.

We rebuke the spirit of fear in this situation, in the name of Jesus. Fear has no place where faith in You abides. We declare that this opportunity is not a mistake, but a divine appointment. We ask for favor, for open doors, and for the resources needed to step into this next season. And we ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and through which we have access to You.

Lord, we also pray for protection over this one’s heart. Let them not grow bitter or resentful if the answer is not immediate. Let them not doubt Your goodness. And let them remember that even if they go to ###, or stay, or take another path entirely, You are with them. "Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for Yahweh your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you" (Deuteronomy 31:6 WEB).

We trust You, Father, to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

In the meantime, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer, not just for your father’s permission, but for your own peace. Share your heart with him calmly, not in frustration, but with the assurance that God is leading you. Perhaps invite a trusted elder or pastor to speak with him as well, someone who can offer wisdom from a place of faith. And remember, even if the timeline is tight, God is not bound by deadlines. If this is His will, He will make a way.

Lastly, we want to gently remind you that all blessings, all opportunities, and all doors come from the Lord. It is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to God, and it is only by His grace that we are saved. "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me'" (John 14:6 WEB). If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, for He is the foundation upon which all other blessings rest.

You are not alone in this. We stand with you in prayer, and we believe that God is working even now. Keep your eyes on Him, and trust that He will direct your steps.

We can only imagine how hard it must be to hold this incredible, fully funded opportunity in one hand and your father’s reluctance in the other. A PhD abroad is a huge step, and when the door opens so clearly, funding, admission, a path in STEM that many never see, it’s painful to feel that the person whose support you most long for is holding you back out of fear. His worry that you won’t succeed likely comes from a place of love, wanting to protect you from risk or shame in a poor nation where failure can feel final. That doesn’t make it easier, but it may help you see that his heart isn’t necessarily hard; it might be afraid.

While we pray, we’d also encourage you to find a quiet moment to sit with your father and gently, respectfully lay out the practical reassurances, the funding details, the reputation of the program, perhaps stories of others from your country who thrived. If there’s a pastor, teacher, or older family friend he trusts, asking that person to help you both talk could soften the conversation. Even so, the deepest shift will come as we pray for his heart to be filled with peace rather than fear.

Lord Jesus, we lift up this person to you, this rare and wonderful door you’ve opened through a fully funded PhD. Quiet their anxious heart today. We ask you to gently turn their father’s fear into hope, so he can see this not as a loss but as a launch. Give this family wisdom in their conversations, and if it is your will, make a way for the travel and start to happen on time. Protect this relationship even through disagreement, and let your peace rule in both their hearts. In your name, Amen.

A stony heart may be turned to flesh but turn a divided heart into whatsoever you please, so long as it is divided, all is ill. The heart, the heart, the heart, the heart, that is the vital place! Your father’s heart seems divided between fear and hope, between holding on and letting go. Yet remember, the love of the Father is, in all respects, equal to the love of the Son! The Lord, therefore, does not attempt the repairing of this thing; but he says, “I will give you a new heart, and a right spirit will I put within you; I will take away the heart of stone, I will not try to soften it, I will let it be as stony as ever it was, but I will take it away, and I will give you a new heart, and it shall be a heart of flesh.”

And you shall find Him a better Father than you will be to your own children, a better Father than the best of fathers could ever be to the best beloved of sons! Come to Him, and look up into the face of the orphan’s Father and say, I plead that word of Yours, “In You the fatherless finds mercy.” He trusts his heavenly Father as a child, he does not know what he may require today, or require in the unknown future, but then his heavenly Father knows and he leaves it all to Him. When the heart gets the love of God in it, it, “Laughs at impossibilities, And cries, ‘It shall be done!’”

Some seekers are divided as to the object of their trust. Their heart is divided between this and that. They are not quite for the world nor quite for Christ, they halt between two opinions! Oh, that God would decide them that their heart, their divided heart, may not prove their ruin! But, says one, “Are we not to seek for a right spirit?” No man ever did cry for a new heart until he had got one, for the cry for a new heart proves that there is a new heart there already. Let me call thee ‘my Father,’ and not turn away from thee. Give me a new heart and a right spirit; O wash me in the blood of Christ, and make me clean. Make me what thou wouldst have me be, and I will praise thee for ever.

He says, “He that has seen Me has seen the Father,” and, “I say not that I will pray the Father for you, for the Father Himself loves you.” Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. Come, my Heart, bless the Father at this moment and never cease from His praise while life and being last, or immortality endures!

Certainly prayer faith hope in God. Worship is the answer we need. May God truly bless all who pray and seek a relationship with him. Gods love and gift to the world is redemption through his son Yeshua our Christ and our Lord. Redeemed by his blood. We are called to be faithful stewards of Gods word. We are to be active in our faith by daily praying and opening up the scriptures if we wabt accept Christ as Llrd savior and master. Lord Yeshuas name amen
