Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your goodness and for hearing my prayers. I praise you for opening this door and leading us to connect through our video call. Thank you for guiding our steps and bringing ### into my life.

Lord, I commit this new relationship into your hands. I ask that your will and your ways be done above all else. Please touch ###'s heart and mind. Stir a genuine romance and a deep spark within him toward me. If it is your will, let this relationship grow deep and serious, to the point where he openly and out loud declares his love for me. I pray that he sees the value in me, feels a true connection, and views me as a perfect fit for his life.

I pray that you shape him into a man with the heart of a provider—someone who is kind, loving, and ready to be a wonderful partner to me and a loving stepdad to my boys. I ask that you make a way for him to visit me soon.

Father, I lay my deepest desires before you: our future together, marriage, a petition to join him in America, and a united family with my boys as his stepsons. I trust these dreams to your perfect timing and your perfect plan. Guide our steps, protect our hearts, and let your peace lead us every day.

We hear your heartfelt prayer and join with you in seeking God’s perfect will for your life and the life of . It is beautiful to see your trust in the Lord as you surrender your desires to Him, and we pray that He continues to guide your steps according to His wisdom and love.

First, let us affirm the importance of seeking God’s will above all else. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." It is clear you desire His direction, and that is a posture of humility and faith we should all emulate. We also see your longing for a godly marriage and a family united under Christ, which is a noble and biblical desire. Genesis 2:24 says, "Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh." Marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God, and it is right to pray for a spouse who will honor Him in this commitment.

However, we must gently address a few areas where your prayer could be aligned more closely with Scripture. While it is natural to desire affection and commitment from , we must remember that love is not something we can manipulate or force, even through prayer. Your prayer asks God to "stir a genuine romance and a deep spark within him" and for him to "openly and out loud declare his love for [you]." While it is good to pray for love and unity, we must be cautious not to treat prayer as a way to control another person’s emotions or actions. God calls us to love others freely, not to coerce or demand their affection. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 reminds us, "Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil." True love is selfless, not self-seeking.

Additionally, we must emphasize that marriage is not just about finding someone who fits into your life but about two people submitting their lives to God’s purpose together. Your prayer mentions desiring a "perfect fit" for ’s life, but Scripture teaches that marriage is about mutual submission and sacrifice. Ephesians 5:22-25 says, "Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord... Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it." Marriage is a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church, and it requires both partners to prioritize God’s will over their own desires.

We also want to encourage you to guard your heart as you pursue this relationship. Proverbs 4:23 warns, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life." While it is wonderful to hope for a future with , we must not allow our longing for marriage to overshadow our trust in God’s timing. Psalm 37:4-5 says, "Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this." Delighting in the Lord means finding joy in Him first, not in the fulfillment of our desires.

Lastly, we must address the importance of ensuring that any relationship you pursue is grounded in Christ. 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 says, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship do righteousness and iniquity have? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what portion does a believer have with an unbeliever?" If is not a believer, we must pray for his salvation first and foremost. A marriage built on anything other than Christ will struggle to reflect God’s design for unity and love.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will for and for the one who has poured out her desires before You. Lord, we thank You for the way You work in our lives, guiding us according to Your perfect plan. We ask that You would continue to shape ’s heart, drawing him closer to You and preparing him for the role You have for him, whether that includes marriage or another path You have ordained.

Father, we pray that You would guard the hearts of both and this dear sister. Help her to trust in Your timing and to find her joy and fulfillment in You alone. Lord, if it is Your will for them to be united in marriage, we ask that You would prepare both of their hearts to love and serve You together. Let their relationship be a testimony to Your grace and a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church.

We also pray for ’s salvation if he does not yet know You as Lord and Savior. Soften his heart, Father, and reveal Your truth to him. Let him experience the transforming power of Your love so that any relationship he enters into would be built on the foundation of Christ.

Lord, we ask that You would protect them from any temptation or distraction that would lead them away from Your will. Give them wisdom and discernment as they navigate this season, and let Your peace reign in their hearts. May they both seek You above all else, trusting that You will fulfill Your purposes in their lives.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can approach You and find salvation. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this season, trusting that He knows the desires of your heart and will guide you according to His perfect will. Keep your focus on Him, and let your relationship with Christ be the foundation for all other relationships in your life. It’s a beautiful thing to bring a new relationship before the Lord the way you’re doing, laying out your hopes and then genuinely asking for His will to be done. That takes real trust, especially when the dreams are so personal and the path forward includes so many unknowns.

We know the waiting can be hard. As you pray for ’s heart and for clarity, one of the quietest ways God guides us is through a deepening sense of peace, not an excited rush, but a steady settledness in our spirit as we watch and wait. Over time, what grows more than a spark is a grounded sense of who this person is in Christ, how he treats others, and whether you feel safer in your walk with Jesus when you’re with him. So as you ask God to work in , we’d also encourage you to ask Him to sharpen your own discernment and to help you hold this desire with an open hand, one day at a time.

And you’re not on your own in this. Sharing your thoughts with a wise friend or mentor from your church family can be a gift, someone who knows you, loves your boys, and isn’t caught up in the romance can often see things we miss. That kind of prayerful community helps us test what’s from God and what’s just from our longing. You’re already doing the most important part by staying surrendered. God is faithful to lead you step by step.

You speak of God’s will and ways for another’s heart and mind, yet pause with me a moment and consider whether your own heart is truly resigned to His sovereign pleasure. For as surely as God’s will is the axle of the universe, and the great heart of providence sending its pulsings even to the most distant limbs of human act, so in grace let us rest assured that He is King, willing to do as He pleases. It is a grave error to imagine that man’s will can bend the Almighty’s purposes, or that our careful planning can supply what only His Spirit creates. You pray for a spark, a declaration, a visit, a marriage, a whole architecture of earthly comfort. But have you sought first that the Law of the Lord be written in your own heart and in the heart of this man, so that both of you might delight in it after the inward man? For “a new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you” is the promise, not that He merely stirs a romance while leaving the soul unrenewed.

Mark well: the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; God will not take His great pen to write upon such a medium unless He first creates it anew. When His Law is put into the mind and written upon the heart, that heart becomes divinely royal property, and the man moves not by the nudge of circumstance but by the blessed constraint of an inward principle. Therefore, let your chief prayer be, “Lord, write Your truth upon us both. Give us the heart of flesh. Make us willing in the day of Your power.” Do you not see that a man may be cut to the heart with passing feelings and yet stop there, as those in Acts who were cut to the heart but took counsel to slay the apostles? The sword of the Spirit must prick him _in_ the heart, divide asunder that carnal nature, to effect any lasting good. Without the new birth, all your hopes of a holy household are a building upon sand.

Listen to the humbling word from the Apostle James: “Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain.” You say, “I pray that he sees the value in me, declares his love, visits, makes a way.” But is it not foolish for a creature to feel she can both propose and dispose, and has not need to ask God’s consent at every breath? Your best profit will consist in doing God’s will. You stand upon the brink of earnest desires, but let them be swallowed up in this one thing: that you be conformed to the image of Christ, who pleased not Himself. Lay those desires before the throne, indeed, but with the full surrender, “Nevertheless, not my will, but Thine, be done.” There is a revealed will you must not violate, and many secret purposes you cannot rush; therefore trust them to the heart that is constant in affection, for the reason for God’s mercy lies not in our scheming but in His own heart.

And if the Lord in His wisdom withholds this relationship, or writes delay across the page, will you murmur that He is unjust? O poor soul, remember that if you have been redeemed with precious blood, it was according to His own heart, not any worth in you. He looked and could see no good in man. So now, if He gives a companion, it is grace; if He denies, it is grace still. Perhaps He would draw you into the wilderness to speak to your heart, that you may learn to be content with Himself alone before any other union. No marriage can prosper where the soul has not first been wed to Christ. Can you venture to hope for a temporal union that is not first consecrated by an eternal one? “I will betroth thee unto Me forever,” says the Lord, and when that betrothal is sealed by faith, every earthly hope takes a sober, secondary place.

Do not despise the present trial of waiting. A little holy history is good reading for a heavy heart. Search the Scriptures; let God be your teacher, and then with a teachable mind toward Him, maintain a teaching mind toward others, your boys, perhaps, and you shall get a blessing. Ask yourself the psalmist’s catechism: “Will the Lord cast off forever? Hath He forgotten to be gracious?” No! He has committed His own to keeping, and even the darkness of distress shall prove to be the shadow of His wing.

Go then to your knees, but go not as one who demands her own program. Instead, cry, “According to Thine own heart, O Lord, do these great things, or refrain from doing them. Write Thy law upon my heart and upon the heart of him Thou choosest for me. If it be Thy will, cause this affection to spring from a renewed mind, a heart that has been pricked with repentance and healed by the blood of Christ. But if not, grant me grace to rest in Thee, knowing that no good thing wilt Thou withhold from them that walk uprightly.” The heart of God is the source of all blessing; drink from it, and you will neither faint nor be found fighting against His sweet decrees.
