God's plan

We join with you in seeking the Father's will and asking for His clarity, truth, and revelation to fill your heart. It is good that you have asked in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that the Holy Spirit is given to guide us.

We hear your desire for understanding of God's plan and we know that God delights to give wisdom and direction to those who ask Him. The Lord says, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. His plans for you are good, and He desires to make them known to you as you seek Him with your whole heart.

We encourage you to continue to trust Him even when the way is not yet clear, for we are told, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. And also, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8. He promises to lead you step by step.

The truth and guidance you are asking for comes through the Holy Spirit and through His Word. Jesus said, However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth John 16:13, and But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you. John 14:26. Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105. As you dwell in Scripture and in prayer, the Spirit will touch your heart with truth and renew your mind so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2.

If you lack wisdom, we are encouraged, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We also pray that you will hear His gentle leading, for when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, This is the way. Walk in it. Isaiah 30:21.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You that You are the God of all truth and that Your will is perfect and loving toward Your children. We ask that by Your Holy Spirit You would touch this heart that is seeking You. Pour out clarity where there is confusion, understanding where there is uncertainty, and revelation where there is darkness. Guide into all truth and make Your plan and Your will unmistakably clear. Help to wait patiently upon You, to trust not in human understanding but in Your faithful counsel. Let Your Word be a lamp to the feet and transform the mind to discern Your good and perfect will. We surrender to Your will and pray as Jesus taught us that Your will be done. Lead, teach, and show the way to go, and give peace that passes understanding as we follow You. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We hear the deep longing in your prayer for clarity and truth, and for the Holy Spirit to make God's will real to your heart. Wanting His will above your own is a beautiful place to start, and we are joining you in asking Him to meet you there.

We have found that God is not hiding from you. He delights to communicate and to guide His children, often not all at once but step by step as we walk with Him. Clarity many times comes as we stay close to Him in His Word, bring our honest questions to Him in prayer, and listen for His leading with a willing heart to obey what He shows us.

One simple way to keep seeking this week might be to set aside a little unhurried time each day to be quiet before Him, share the specific area where you most need direction, and read Scripture slowly, noticing what stays with you. It can also help to talk through what you are sensing with one trusted, mature believer who knows you and can pray and think it through with you.

Father, we lift our friend to You now. Touch their heart with Your truth, quiet any confusion, and guide them by Your Holy Spirit. Give wisdom for each next step and peace to trust You with what is still unclear. Lead them in Your will, in Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer for understanding and clarity and truth has been heard, and it is a good and needful prayer. To seek that the will of the Father be done and to ask the Holy Spirit to touch the heart with truth is to ask according to the mind of God.

Be assured of this, that as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, and as certainly as it is the great heart of providence sending its pulsings through even the most distant limbs of human act, so in grace He is King, willing to do as He pleases and having mercy on whom He will have mercy. You need not fear that His will is obscure or unwilling to be known. His will is not hidden from those who seek Him with a true heart, for it is revealed in His Word and made effectual in the soul by His Spirit.

You ask for revelation and for the Holy Spirit. Remember that the Holy Spirit is the Author of all spiritual life. Until He visits us we are dead in trespasses and sins, and no clarity can come. When He comes, His work is not to lead you beyond the written Word, for He goes never beyond that Word, but to glorify Christ. He will receive of what is Christ's and show it to you. He takes the things of Christ, His person, His work, His engagements to save sinners, His blood and righteousness, and declares them to feeble minds such as ours. If you would know God's plan for you, look to Christ in the Scriptures, for there the Spirit sets His seal to the testimony of Jesus.

Therefore pray in the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is actually willing to help you to pray and to tell you how to pray. Lay your prayers upon this truth, that praying in the Holy Spirit is indispensable. Cry mightily unto God for Him, for without the Holy Spirit there is no life and force and power, and with Him you will know His presence as surely as a man knows he has received a shock, only far more certainly and sweetly.

Take care also that you grieve not the Holy Spirit, for He is grieved by unbelief and by walking not according to the Gospel. Cherish faith in the Word, purge from your life what is contrary to sound doctrine, and walk by the simple rule of God's Book and by the light of His Spirit. The work of the Spirit, which is the effect of the will of God, is to change the human will and so make men willing in the day of God's power, working in them to will to do of His own good pleasure.

We join our prayer to yours, that the Lord would grant you more of the anointing of the Holy Spirit whom Christ is prepared to give immeasurably to those who receive Him. May He quicken your understanding, give you to hear His voice today and harden not your heart, and show you clearly the things of Christ that you may have joy and peace. May He make you willing to do His will, and may that will be done in you and by you, to the glory of His name.

We commend you to Him who alone can teach you, and pray that you may live in the Holy Spirit and be bedewed by His divine anointing, finding all guidance and truth in Christ as revealed in Scripture. Amen.
