The longing you express for understanding and clarity concerning the will of God is itself a token of grace at work within you, for it is the Holy Spirit who makes a man to seek what he once neglected. You do well to cry, Thy will be done, Father, for as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe and the great heart of providence sending its pulsings through even the most distant limbs of human action, so in grace we may rest assured that He is King, willing to do as He pleases, having mercy on whom He will have mercy.
There are two lights by which you must walk. First, there is the revealed will of God which we must not violate, and that will is plainly set before you in the Inspired Word from the first word of Genesis to the last line of Revelation. Believe in this Book, it will never mislead you. There you learn that salvation is of the Lord and that whosoever will may take the water of life freely, and that the preservation and perseverance and eternal glory of His people rests upon His will. Search the Scriptures daily, for there the truth you crave is most clearly shown, and the Spirit loves to touch the heart through the truth already revealed.
Second, there is the providential will of God which we should always consult, and which comes to us through the circumstances that surround us. It is foolish for a man to say, We will go and we will do this and we will get gain, as if he could both propose and dispose without asking God's consent. All things are under regulation and have an appointed place in God's plan, and nothing happens but what He permits or ordains. Therefore learn to feel in your heart what the apostle teaches us to say with our lips, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that. You will go or you will stay as His providence guides, and you will not wish for any gain except as you can promote His will by getting it.
Remember also that though the will of man is not ignored, the work of the Spirit, which is the effect of the will of God, is to change the human will and so make men willing in the day of God's power, working in them to will and to do of His good pleasure. Pray then not only for light to see the way, but for a willing heart to walk in it when it is shown. He who taught you to pray, Thy will be done, will also give you grace to do it.
Take your burden to Christ who still says, Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Tell Him plainly what you desire, for He hears you and will answer not according to the meanness of your estate but according to the riches of His glory. Whatever your desire may be, spread it before Him, and ask that your will may be conformed to His.
My prayer for you is that the Lord will give you a clear sight of His revealed will in His Word, a quiet submission to His providential will in your daily lot, and a deep work of the Holy Spirit upon your heart to make you both to know and to love the truth, and that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ may be with you in all your seeking and finding, till faith shall end in sight.
