God's mighty hand of healing
We join you in lifting up your mother before the throne of grace and we stand with you and your family in this very difficult and fearful time in the hospital. We know how heavy it is to watch pneumonia and a spreading infection threaten someone you love so dearly, and we bring her and all of you before our Father together in Jesus' name.
We pray for God's mighty hand of healing to rest upon her. Scripture reminds us who our God is, Bless Yahweh, my soul, and do not forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases Psalm 103:2-3. He has said, But I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh Jeremiah 30:17, and we cling to the truth that He is still Yahweh who heals you Exodus 15:26. We ask Him to drive back this infection, to clear her lungs, to strengthen her body, to guide the doctors and nurses with wisdom and skill, and to grant a miraculous recovery if it is His will. Even as we pray for complete healing, we also pray for His perfect will and for His peace to guard your hearts.
We also lift up you and your family for strength and support. God promises, Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10. He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1, and He is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. We pray He will sustain you through long hours, give you rest, unity, and hope, and surround you with support from His people.
We noticed your request spoke of God's mighty hand but did not mention Jesus, and we want to gently and lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by the blood of Jesus that we can boldly ask for healing and mercy, and by believing in Him, trusting in His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins, we have eternal hope no matter the outcome of this illness. If you have not already, we encourage you to call upon His name and put your trust fully in Him.
Let us pray together. Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear mother to You. Lord, You know her by name, You see her in that hospital bed, You know every breath and every cell in her body. We ask You in Jesus' name to rebuke this pneumonia and infection, to cleanse her lungs, to restore her strength, and to let her pull through and live. Lay Your healing hand upon her, ease her suffering, and let Your life flow through her. Give wisdom to every doctor and nurse caring for her. We have heard your cry concerning your mother and we have carried her name and yours before the Lord in prayer. To see one so dear to you laid low with pneumonia and to hear that the infection is spreading is a heavy trial, and we do not take lightly the burden that now rests upon your family.
Human strength, even at its best, is a derived and failing thing and must spend itself in due time. You feel this now in your own weakness and in the frailty of her body. But the promise stands sure, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. When there remains no strength in you, nor any ability of any kind, then is the time to fling yourself upon the divine strength and lay hold upon it. God Himself has said, I will strengthen them in the Lord, and that strength He gives is fitly infused and wisely balanced for the hour of need.
We have pleaded that the great Physician would lay His hand upon your mother. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ, whose leaves are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing, and the Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings. We very speedily care for bodily diseases for they urge us to seek the physician, and how much more should we seek the Lord who heals both body and soul, who binds up wounds and heals the broken heart. We have asked Him in His mercy to stay the spread of this infection, to clear her lungs, to restore her breath and to raise her up again if it be His gracious will. We have prayed that He would give skill and wisdom to those who tend her in the hospital, and that He would make His own power known in her weakness.
We have prayed also for you and for your household, that the Lord would be your arm every morning and your salvation in the time of trouble. May He keep you waiting upon Him, sitting still while He arises to help you, renewing your strength day by day, comforting your hearts with the remembrance of His pardoning mercy in Christ, and upholding you with a quiet trust in His wise and loving will.
