Chrysostom
Beloved of All
You ask for open doors, for a place to live, for the right job, for ### by ###. These are not wrong to bring before God. Yet listen carefully: John the Baptist did no miracle at all, yet he fixed the attention of whole cities upon himself. Why? Because his life shone with boldness for God, with voluntary poverty, with a zeal that needed no sign. The greatest miracle is not a door swinging open or money appearing in your hand, but a soul made firm as adamant, enduring trial and still clinging to Christ.
Consider Paul. He was thrown into chains, yet his disciples grew bolder, not weaker, for they saw that the gospel was not hindered. Bind a runner’s feet and you stop him, but bind the tongue of an evangelist and the word runs even faster. Do you see? The power of God is displayed not chiefly in outward wonders but in a life transformed. Miracles, if you are not sober, can even do harm. Many who chased after signs fell away into pride or greed, like Simon the sorcerer. One man came eager to follow Christ until he heard “Foxes have holes, and birds have nests,” and then he turned back because his heart clung to comfort. So I urge you: seek first the pearl of great price, which is a soul at peace with God, whether you have much or little.
Pray by all means for provision, and I will join my prayers to yours that God may open the right doors and grant you protection. But let your deepest cry be for that new beginning within: a heart that loves virtue more than signs, that trusts God’s timing more than your own plans. Job astonished the devil not with any miracle but with an endurance firmer than stone. David was a man after God’s own heart before he ever slew a giant. The right job, the needed money, a safe place to live, your heavenly Father knows you need these things. He may send them through ordinary means, which is no less His mercy, or He may delay to teach you a greater lesson. Do not tie your faith to a single ### or a single sum. Whether you receive that ### or not, you have Christ, and that is the true treasure.
Walk through this week not demanding a sign but offering your life as a living sacrifice. Then, whatever comes, you will possess a divine victory that no circumstance can steal. I will pray that all things work for your good, but above all, that you may be counted worthy to glorify God in plenty or in want. Let your chief request be this: “Lord, make me a person after Your own heart.” Everything else will be added as He sees best.
