Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your burden for the nations and for all who are in authority is good and well pleasing to God, and we join with you in it. You have prayed according to the Scriptures, that God who made from one man all nations has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, Acts 17:26, and that the nations are as a drop in a bucket before Him, Isa 40:15, yet He rules and restrains evil and guides the hearts of kings.

We agree with you to pray as the Apostle exhorts, that supplications and intercessions be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, 1 Tim 2:1-4. And this quiet life is not the quiet of the heathen or of those who live for pleasure, but as it is written, in all godliness and honesty. Godliness must be shown both in doctrine and in life, for to profess to know God and deny Him in works is not honesty, and the covetous and deceitful and passionate man is disorderly and licentious. So we pray not only for outward peace, but for inward godliness and good order among rulers and people.

You have asked for honest elections, and this too is according to the Lord, for a false balance is an abomination to Him, but accurate weights are His delight, Prov 11:1. To provide things honest in the sight of all men is His command, and we pray that He will expose deceit and establish truth in the choosing of leaders.

You have asked that God would restrain the evil one over unruly countries and intercept evil plans, as He did when Elisha heard the counsel of the king of Syria, 2 Kings 6:12, and as David was warned when evil was intended against him. This is right to pray, for our struggle is not only against flesh and blood, and there is a ruler of the darkness of this world who works through those who give themselves to him. Yet he has nothing in Christ, and he is a murderer from the beginning and a liar by nature, John 8:44. We are not ignorant of his schemes, 2 Cor 2:11, and we pray with you, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, Matt 6:13.

You asked that the spirit of retaliation be bound, Dan 10:13. Hear what the Lord teaches. The law said eye for eye not to loose our hands for revenge, but to bind the hands of the aggressor and to check boldness in doing harm. The Gospel gives a higher law, recompense to no man evil for evil, but provide things honest in the sight of all men. If we find fault with another who plots against us, we must not imitate him. So we do not pray for vengeance in our own hands, but that God in His wisdom would turn the plots of men to our salvation and glory, as He did for Job and for the Apostles. If God is for us, who can be against us, for even those who seem against us become without their will the procurers of crowns when God is for us.

You have called the Church to be a helpmeet in intercession, imitating God, Eph 5:1, since Christ ever lives to make intercession for us, Heb 7:25. This is the priesthood according to the flesh, that He who has all judgment and who sends His angels also intercedes for us, and because He ever lives He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God by Him. He does not intercede once only, but continually whenever need arises. Therefore our prayers are not alone, but are joined to His living intercession, and for this reason He is able to save. Let us also praise Him from the rising of the sun to its setting, Ps 113:3, for praise drove the evil spirit from Saul, 1 Sam 16:23, and the Lord still delights in the praises of His people.

We confess with you our sins and the sins of our nation, Dan 9:20, and we thank God for the authority He has given to tread on the power of the enemy, Luke 10:19, yet we rejoice more that our names are written in heaven and in the things that accompany salvation, Luke 10:20. The devil is temporary and will be bound with a great chain, and the fullness of that restraint will one day be seen, but even now God restrains him in answer to prayer.

Continue steadfast in this work which He has shown you, doing the works of Christ in prayer and in whatever else He shows you, John 15:7, going about doing good and praying for the healing of those oppressed by the devil, Acts 10:38, and above all praying for salvation in Jesus name, for God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, 1 Tim 2:4, and there is no other name by which we must be saved. May the Lord spoil every plan that is not according to His exact will, and establish His Church as a holy nation and royal priesthood, 1 Pet 2:9, that speaks truth and bears faithful witness.

We stand with you in this prayer, asking the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, the visible image of the invisible God, to have mercy on our leaders and on the nations, to restrain evil, to grant honest judgment, and to bring many to salvation. Amen.

Your prayer reflects a heart that takes seriously what Scripture teaches about God's rule over the nations and His call to intercession. It is right to bring these burdens to the Lord in this way, and to keep doing so.

Scripture is clear that God has made all peoples from one man and determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their dwelling, as you noted from Acts 17. The nations are as a drop in a bucket and as dust on the scales before Him, as Isaiah says, yet He cares enough to watch over them, to give and to remove kingdoms, and to hold rulers accountable. He once raised up Babylon and its king as an instrument for a time, even naming how long that rule would last through son and grandson, and then brought many nations together to bring it down. In the same way He still rules today, and no plan of man or spiritual power moves outside His knowledge.

That is why your request to ask Him to restrain evil and to intercept evil plans is so fitting. There is a real spiritual conflict behind the unrest we see among nations, as Daniel learned when the answer to his prayer was withstood for days. God is able to uncover hidden counsels, as He did when He revealed the plans of the Syrian king to Elisha, and when He warned David that harm was intended against him. He is also able to push back the spirit of retaliation and the liar and murderer from the beginning, whose schemes we are not to be ignorant of.

You are right to pray for all who are in authority, as Paul urges in 1 Timothy 2, that they may be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth through Jesus Christ, who alone is the visible image of the invisible God and who ever lives to make intercession for us. God desires that kind of prayer, and He uses the prayers of His people, His royal priesthood, to stand in the gap. Like Samuel, we should see it as a serious matter to keep praying and not to stop, confessing our own sins and the sins of our nation as Daniel did.

Part of that prayer must be for honesty and justice. A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but accurate weights are His delight. When leaders and lawmakers come to hate what is good and love what is evil, when they boast about evil rather than being ashamed of it and make laws that protect what is wrong and punish what is right, a nation cannot stand long. Evil always asks to be tolerated and seeks to have us compromise a little at a time, but we are told not to consent when sinners entice us. Instead we are to seek wisdom as treasure, to understand the fear of the Lord, and to love what He loves.

It is also good that you bring praise into this battle. God has used praise and worship to bring relief when an evil spirit was at work, and the Psalms call us to praise His name from the rising of the sun to its setting. Idols and the powers behind them are empty and have no ability in themselves to do good or evil, they are only the work of human hands, but the Lord is wise and powerful and none is like Him.

Continue to ask that the Lord would lead leaders not into temptation but deliver them from evil, that He would spoil every plan that is not according to His will and cause only His perfect will to stand, as Jesus promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against His church. Pray that the church would truly be a helper in this work, imitating God and doing the works Jesus did, going about doing good and bringing healing to those oppressed by the devil. And remember that while He has given authority to tread on the power of the enemy, our deeper joy is that our names are written in heaven and that we rejoice in the things that accompany salvation.

Thank you for lifting up these unruly places, for asking for honest dealings and for the salvation of those in authority. May the Lord keep you faithful in this intercession, give you discernment, and answer according to His sovereign mercy in Jesus' name.
