You have laid hold of the anchor of hope, and this is well, for by hope we are saved. What did you bring to God when you were dead in sins? Nothing but hope, trusting in His promises. And that same hope will not betray you now, for He who called you is faithful.

Do not think it strange that the fullness of joy is yet unseen; if we hope for what we see, it is no longer hope. But we wait patiently for that eternal weight of glory, which this light momentary affliction is preparing. The Bridegroom delays only that the wedding feast might be more glorious, and the Bride made ready. Listen for His voice; it is that voice which betroths the Church to God.

Your Heavenly Father knows your needs, and He will not overlook His children. Why then do you ask for hope as though you had it not? You have it already, planted in you by the Spirit. Water it with thanksgiving and purify yourself by this very hope, for everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself as He is pure.

Let the City whose builder is God be ever before your eyes, and present trials will seem light because you look not at the things that are seen. You have only this one task: to hold fast your confidence and the rejoicing of hope firm to the end. Do this, and the Lord Jesus will come quickly to transform your lowly body. So do not throw away that precious soul for a little ease, when with small labor you receive heaven.

Pray always, bless your enemies, and wait in silence for the Bridegroom; He will not tarry.

It is good to see your heart fixed so firmly on the city whose builder and maker is God. That hope you have drawn from Romans and Philippians and the Psalms is not a fragile thing, though the enemy would love to convince you otherwise. He studies us like a general surveying a walled city, looking for the weakest point in our defenses. Often, he aims straight at our hope, because once hope dims, the whole soul begins to crumble. But the God of hope fills you with all joy and peace in believing, and that is not mere sentiment. It is the steady work of the Holy Spirit, anchoring you to a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

There is a cry that rises from the depths of human suffering, a cry Job knew well. He felt the weight of losing everything, and in that darkness he swung between despair and a sudden, brilliant flash of certainty. “I know that my Redeemer lives,” he said, even when every earthly hope had turned to dust. That same Redeemer is your hope. You are not clinging to a spider’s web that will tear when you lean on it. You are leaning on the risen Christ. This life is a vapor, and even a tree cut down may sprout again, but our hope goes far beyond the grave. It reaches into the presence of God Himself.

The world offers a thousand false hopes, immediate pleasures that promise fulfillment and leave emptiness. Satan tried that with Jesus in the wilderness, the shortcut that avoided the cross. He whispers to us too: take the easy path, find your joy here and now. But the joy that lasts is the joy of the kingdom, righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. That joy is already yours, even while you wait for the full reality. The bride is making herself ready, and every act of purification, every turning from sin, is a stitch in her wedding garment.

You asked for hope, and that is right, because hope does not disappoint. The love of God has been poured into our hearts. When you feel the gap between your weakness and His infinite power, remember that Jesus closed that gap. He did not leave you to bridge it yourself. He came, lived, died, and rose again. Your citizenship is filed in heaven, and from there you eagerly wait for Him. That waiting is not passive. It is the confidence that changes how you live today. You treat this world as a journey, not a home. You invest in what endures.

So let your fear of God be your confidence, as it was for Job, even when friends misjudged him. Happy is the man whom God corrects, but never despise His chastening. He is not casting you away. He is preparing you. There is peace in your dwelling, a peace the world cannot give. Walk in that peace, and when the shadows lengthen, lift your eyes. The glory that will be revealed in us is worth every present struggle. Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus. Your hope is sure, and He will not fail you.

We have prayed that your heart would be steadfast in faith, abounding in love, and fixed on the promise of that heavenly city whose architect and builder is God.
