God help a depressed man

Anonymous

Beloved of All
God help a depressed man. If he needs it help him get treatment for addiction to drugs as well. Remove generational curses of alcohol addiction his grand father's on his mom's side and his dad's side were both addicted to alcohol. One of the grandfather's was a medicine man in his mother's side. The grand father may have dedicated or tried sacrificing his grand kids to evil. Two of the grand father's grand kids are addicted to either drugs or alcohol. God deliver their hand, mouth, tongues, arms, minds, body, from all demons of alcohol and drug addiction

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear brother who is struggling with depression and the chains of addiction. Father, we know that You see his pain, his battles, and the generational strongholds that have taken root in his family. We stand in the authority of Jesus Christ, who came to break every chain and set the captives free. Lord, we declare that no weapon formed against this man shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against him in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17).

We rebuke the spirits of addiction, depression, and generational curses that have plagued this family line. The blood of Jesus has broken every curse, and we declare that this man is no longer bound by the sins of his fathers. "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'" (Galatians 3:13). We break the power of alcoholism, drug addiction, and any occult involvement in the name of Jesus. Every demonic dedication or sacrifice made over this family is nullified by the power of the cross. We command every evil spirit associated with addiction, depression, and witchcraft to leave this man and his family now, in Jesus’ name.

Father, we ask that You would deliver his hands from reaching for substances, his mouth from consuming them, his mind from craving them, and his body from their grip. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). We pray for divine intervention, open his eyes to the path of recovery, and lead him to godly counsel, treatment, and support. Surround him with believers who will walk with him in accountability and love.

We also pray for his family members who are still bound by addiction. Lord, break the cycle of generational sin in this family. Let the light of Your truth penetrate their hearts, and may they turn to You for deliverance. "If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Above all, we pray that this man would encounter Your love in a profound way. Depression can make him feel isolated and hopeless, but You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Remind him that he is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and that You have a purpose for his life. Draw him close to You, Lord, and let him find his identity in Christ alone.

We also want to gently address the mention of a "medicine man" and any involvement in occult practices. Scripture is clear that we are not to consult mediums, spiritists, or those who practice witchcraft (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). These practices open doors to demonic influence and must be renounced. If this man or his family has ever participated in or been dedicated to such things, we encourage him to repent and renounce those ties in the name of Jesus. "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).

Finally, we pray that this man would come to know You, Jesus, as his Lord and Savior if he hasn’t already. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If he has not surrendered his life to You, we ask that You would draw him with Your lovingkindness and reveal Your truth to his heart. Let him experience the freedom that comes only through a relationship with You.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Deliverer, Healer, and Redeemer. Amen.

We hear the weight of this, and we’re holding this man and your whole family before the Lord with you. Watching someone you care about sink under depression and addiction is exhausting and lonely, it takes a toll on you, too. You’ve named deep, tangled roots, and we don’t take that lightly.

While we pray for God to break every chain, we also know that addiction often has medical, emotional, and behavioral sides that need focused attention. One of the most loving and practical things you can do is help him get connected to a Christian counselor, a pastor trained in addiction, or a treatment program that addresses both the depression and the substance use. If he’s reluctant, just letting him know you’re with him while he takes that first call can be a huge gift. There is real hope for recovery, even when it looks impossible.

As you walk alongside him, be sure you’re not walking alone either, get support for yourself. Your own strength matters.

We pray:

Father, we lift this man to You. Quiet the chaos in his mind and lift the heaviness that depression brings. Meet him in the darkness, and give him the courage to reach for help. Break any spiritual hold that addiction has on his life, and release his body, mind, and will into freedom. We ask for wisdom for those who will treat him, for restoring relationships in his family, and for peace to replace fear. Protect every grandchild mentioned, and let Your deliverance flow through this generation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

You feel as though the darkness has a family name, as if the pit your grandfathers dug has opened its mouth to swallow you, too. I hear it in your cry, the weariness, the weight of a legacy you never chose, the dread that something ancient and malevolent has marked you. The enemy of your soul would like nothing better than for you to believe that God has turned His face away, that the curse outruns the mercy. But what does the Scripture say? Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us. There is not a claim hell can make, not a dedication whispered in secret, not a chain rattling down through the generations, that the blood of Jesus Christ has not utterly silenced. It is finished. Every foul deed, every dark bond, every head that was ever bowed to a false god, He has triumphed over them all, and in Him you stand on resurrection ground, not on the grave of your fathers’ sins.

When the depression lies heavy on you like a millstone, and the old thirst wakes in your body and your brain, there comes another hissing lie, that God has thrown you away. I know that arrow. It is the sharpest in Satan’s quiver, and he loves to fire it when a man is down. But it is not true. The Lord does not forsake the work of His own hands. He whose hands were nailed for you is not looking for an excuse to let you go; He is holding you, and His grip is surer than your own. Even now, when you cannot feel Him, He is nearer than the shadow you dread, and He is not silent. He has given you a well to drink from, a deep and living spring that does not fail. Jesus Christ Himself is that well. Come to Him just as you are, fouled by the struggle, heavy-hearted, afraid you bring nothing but ruin. He receives sinners. He will quench that raging thirst in your soul, and little by little, He will break the power of the other thirsts, too. His word is full of promises for men who are going down into the pit; He can rescue at the very brink. When the lock turns in Doubting Castle and old Giant Despair wakes to hold you fast, there is a Key called Promise, and it will open every iron gate. Your Deliverer has already entered the strong man’s house and plundered his goods.

I want you to remember that the Lord’s deliverances come with enrichment. He did not bring Israel out of Egypt empty-handed; they went forth with silver and gold, and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. Your Egypt of darkness and dependency will not end in loss. God means to give you back yourself, whole and living, and many shall see in you what it looks like when the Son makes a man free indeed. And if that deliverance wears the homely dress of a doctor’s care or the steady arm of a brother who keeps you accountable, do not despise it. The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance is often shot through human hands, the hand of the believing friend, the hand of the wise counselor, the hand of the one who sits with you in the small hours. God’s power does not need to bypass means in order to be divine.

Now I want you to hear this, and I want you to speak it with your own lips against all the clamoring voices: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” That man Martin Luther wrote those words upon his wall when the princes of darkness seemed sure to swallow him, and they held true. They will hold true for you. The God who lifts the prisoner out of his groaning and looses those who are appointed to death, that God is your God. He has delivered you from the power of darkness and translated you into the kingdom of His dear Son. The grandfather’s medicine, the father’s bottle, none of it sits upon the throne. Christ sits upon the throne, and He has the keys to all the dark doors that ever were shut against you.

I do not pray that you will merely cope. I pray that you will see salvation rise like the dawn, that your hands and your mouth and your mind and your body will be freed by the strong, gentle breaking-in of the Holy Spirit. I commend you, my brother, to Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. Go in that peace which the world cannot give and cannot take away. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for this heavy burden on your heart. It is clear how deeply you care for this man and his family, and we have lifted him before the Lord, asking for His healing touch to break every chain of addiction and despair. We prayed for the generational curses to be shattered in Jesus’ name, for every demonic influence tied to substance abuse to be cast out, and for the Lord’s deliverance to flood his mind, body, and spirit.

We also asked God to lead him to the right treatment and support, surrounding him with people who will encourage his healing and restoration. If the Lord has already moved in this situation, we would be so grateful to hear a praise report—your testimony could be a blessing to others walking a similar path. If the answer hasn’t yet come, we want to continue standing with you in prayer. Please post this request again so we can keep interceding on his behalf.

May the Lord strengthen you as you trust in Him, and may His peace guard your heart as you wait on His perfect timing. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
