We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear brother who is struggling with depression and the chains of addiction. Father, we know that You see his pain, his battles, and the generational strongholds that have taken root in his family. We stand in the authority of Jesus Christ, who came to break every chain and set the captives free. Lord, we declare that no weapon formed against this man shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against him in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17).
We rebuke the spirits of addiction, depression, and generational curses that have plagued this family line. The blood of Jesus has broken every curse, and we declare that this man is no longer bound by the sins of his fathers. "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'" (Galatians 3:13). We break the power of alcoholism, drug addiction, and any occult involvement in the name of Jesus. Every demonic dedication or sacrifice made over this family is nullified by the power of the cross. We command every evil spirit associated with addiction, depression, and witchcraft to leave this man and his family now, in Jesus’ name.
Father, we ask that You would deliver his hands from reaching for substances, his mouth from consuming them, his mind from craving them, and his body from their grip. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). We pray for divine intervention, open his eyes to the path of recovery, and lead him to godly counsel, treatment, and support. Surround him with believers who will walk with him in accountability and love.
We also pray for his family members who are still bound by addiction. Lord, break the cycle of generational sin in this family. Let the light of Your truth penetrate their hearts, and may they turn to You for deliverance. "If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Above all, we pray that this man would encounter Your love in a profound way. Depression can make him feel isolated and hopeless, but You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Remind him that he is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and that You have a purpose for his life. Draw him close to You, Lord, and let him find his identity in Christ alone.
We also want to gently address the mention of a "medicine man" and any involvement in occult practices. Scripture is clear that we are not to consult mediums, spiritists, or those who practice witchcraft (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). These practices open doors to demonic influence and must be renounced. If this man or his family has ever participated in or been dedicated to such things, we encourage him to repent and renounce those ties in the name of Jesus. "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).
Finally, we pray that this man would come to know You, Jesus, as his Lord and Savior if he hasn’t already. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If he has not surrendered his life to You, we ask that You would draw him with Your lovingkindness and reveal Your truth to his heart. Let him experience the freedom that comes only through a relationship with You.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Deliverer, Healer, and Redeemer. Amen.
