God forsakes not his saints in affliction; and in heaven only the righteous shall dwell for ever; that will be their everlasting habitation

servant of Christ01

Humble Servant
Psalm 37:25 :
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Commentary on this verse:

The Lord our God requires that we do justly, and render to all their due. It is a great sin for those that are able, to deny the payment of just debts; it is a great misery not to be able to pay them. He that is truly merciful, will be ever merciful. We must leave our sins; learn to do well, and cleave to it. This is true religion. The blessing of God is the spring, sweetness, and security of all earthly enjoyments. And if we are sure of this, we are sure not to want any thing good for us in this world. By his grace and Holy Spirit, he directs the thoughts, affections, and designs of good men. By his providence he overrules events, so as to make their way plain. He does not always show them his way for a distance, but leads them step by step, as children are led. God will keep them from being ruined by their falls, either into sin or into trouble, though such as fall into sin will be sorely hurt. Few, if any, have known the consistent believer, or his children, reduced to abject, friendless want. God forsakes not his saints in affliction; and in heaven only the righteous shall dwell for ever; that will be their everlasting habitation. A good man may fall into the hands of a messenger of Satan, and be sorely buffeted, but God will not leave him in his enemy's hands.

Prayer for Psalm 37:24 :
“Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the Lord holds his hand.”

Praying through Psalm 37:24;
Our prayer:
Thank You, Lord, that You are holding us steady in Your hand. Keep us from falling, we pray, and establish our goings out and our comings in, from this time forth and even forevermore. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

We rejoice in the truth of Psalm 37:25, which declares, "I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread." This verse is a powerful reminder of God’s unwavering faithfulness to His people. The righteous, those who walk in obedience to God’s Word and trust in Him, are never abandoned, no matter the trials they face. Even in affliction, God does not forsake His saints. His provision, protection, and presence are constant, and His promises stand firm. The commentary you shared beautifully captures the heart of this truth: God’s blessing is the foundation of all earthly blessings, and those who seek Him will lack no good thing.

The Lord indeed requires justice, mercy, and faithfulness from His people. As Micah 6:8 tells us, "He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the Lord require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" When we align our lives with His commands, we position ourselves to receive His favor and provision. This includes honoring our commitments, paying just debts, and extending mercy to others, just as we have received mercy from Him.

Psalm 37:24, which you also referenced, is a profound comfort: "Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholds him with His hand." This verse assures us that even when we stumble, whether through sin, hardship, or weakness, God does not let us fall beyond recovery. He holds us firmly, lifting us up when we are weak and guiding us back to the path of righteousness. This is not a license to sin but a promise of His grace and restoration for those who repent and seek Him.

Let us pray together in response to these truths:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for Your faithfulness. Thank You that You never forsake Your children, even in the darkest valleys of life. Lord, we ask that You would uphold us with Your righteous right hand, just as You promise in Your Word. When we stumble, lift us up. When we are weak, strengthen us. When we are tempted to despair, remind us of Your unfailing love and provision.

Father, we confess that we have not always acted justly or walked in mercy. Forgive us for the times we have fallen short of Your commands. Teach us to do good, to seek justice, and to love kindness, that we may reflect Your character to the world. Help us to trust in You completely, knowing that You are our Provider and our Protector.

We pray for those who are struggling with financial hardship, fear, or uncertainty. May they experience Your provision in tangible ways, and may their faith be strengthened as they see Your hand at work in their lives. Remind them, Lord, that You are their ever-present help in times of trouble.

Above all, we thank You for the gift of salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ. It is only through His name that we have access to You, and it is only by His blood that we are forgiven and made righteous. Help us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling we have received, that we may bring glory to Your name.

In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.

Let us also encourage one another with the truth that God’s promises are yes and amen in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20). If you are facing a season of testing or uncertainty, hold fast to His Word. Seek Him first, and He will add all these things unto you (Matthew 6:33). Walk in obedience, trust in His provision, and remember that the righteous will never be forsaken. If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). God bless you as you continue to seek Him.

It can be deeply reassuring to sit with a verse like Psalm 37:25, the testimony of someone who has walked with God long enough to see a pattern of faithfulness. “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” That is not a promise that life will be easy or that we will never feel abandoned. But it is a steady, tested observation that in all the twists of life, God does not let go of those who are His. He sees, He provides, and He carries us through, sometimes in ways we only recognize looking back.

When we feel overwhelmed by present struggles, it helps to remember that this testimony is one person’s honest reflection, given in a particular moment. It invites us to do the same: to notice the ways God has sustained us, often quietly, even when we were not aware. That can anchor us when present circumstances shout otherwise. The Psalm also points forward, the ultimate fulfillment is the eternal dwelling with God that awaits the righteous. Until then, we live in the tension of already being held and not yet home.

If today feels heavy, we might try something simple: take a few minutes to trace back a timeline of God’s care in our lives so far, not to deny the pain, but to see that He has been there before and will be again. Then maybe share one of those memories with someone who is struggling, giving away the encouragement we have received.

Lord, thank You that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. In our affliction, steady our hearts to know we are not forsaken. Keep us from panicking when bread seems scarce, and help us to hold fast to Your hand. We trust You for provision, for peace, and for the day when we dwell with You forever. In Jesus’ name.

Amen. Father please do this for them, us and all in need. Thank you and praise you. In Jesus name. Amen

Consider well the words, "Thought he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the Lord holds his hand." The saint may stumble into trouble, into poverty, into deep waters of affliction, but he is not forsaken there. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. This is the testimony of the ages. The blessing of God is the spring, sweetness, and security of all earthly enjoyments. And if we are sure of this, we are sure not to want any thing good for us in this world.

You pray, "Thank You, Lord, that You are holding us steady in Your hand." This is no small mercy. David felt God's own hand in chastisement, and he was a king. Men who are wealthier and greater than we are, are not more screened from affliction, it is quite the reverse. Reflect, too, that there is a higher hand than man's in this matter. It is a rough knife that you have been pruned with, but it is the gardener that used the knife, and your God is using this affliction for your good. Do not look at the affliction as much as at the end and at the design of God. His child may weep, but he will not complain if he but remembers that the Lord holds his hand.

Perhaps you are even now saying, "my affliction is so very bitter." Yet it is quite true that in comparison with our blessings and privileges, our affliction is, indeed, light. We specially realize that our affliction is light as we prove the power of the Lord's sustaining grace. The affliction He calls a lightness of affliction, but the glory He calls a weight of glory, and while He describes the affliction as momentary, He rightly says that the glory is eternal.

God does not always show His way for a distance, but leads us step by step, as children are led. If it is necessary for your good that you suffer from His hand, this affliction and a thousand others, go on, go on. What He pleases to do, it shall be your pleasure to bear. Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah there is everlasting strength. When you are afraid, then is the time to trust the Lord. What time you are afraid, trust in Him. Trust Him as you feel yourself dying and you shall live. Is there ought now added to that one foundation that God has laid? Are you faithless? God is faithful. With you, it may be yea and nay; with Him it is yea and amen. Jesus, trust Him wholly, and Him alone. If you are sure of this, you are sure not to want any thing good for you in this world. By His providence He overrules events, so as to make their way plain. Afterward, He will receive you to glory.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Often when you read that the righteous are not forsaken, you imagine this means a life free from trouble. But the promise is not that no affliction comes. It is that in the affliction, God does not leave you. The hand that holds you steadies you in the fall, so you are not overwhelmed. That is the very meaning of your prayer from the psalm. He does not always keep the fall away, but He keeps the soul from being ruined by it.

You ask how both affliction and joy can meet in one. They meet in the Holy Spirit. The body feels the weight, but the spirit tastes a sweetness the world cannot give. As the three children in the furnace were refreshed with dew, so the believing heart is bedewed by the Spirit in the flames of trial. This is not a natural joy; it is the portion of those who suffer for Christ's sake. It is a sign not of abandonment, but of love. For whom the Lord loves He chastens. You cannot point to any righteous one who escaped affliction. The narrow way that leads to life is paved with it.

Does this seem strange? Consider: ease is often the greater danger. When the body is full of blood and luxury, the smallest thing throws it into fever. When the soul basks in pleasure, it grows slack, prone to every passion. But affliction, like a strict teacher, schools the heart. It humbles what is proud, extinguishes lust, and quiets the restless cravings that lead to sin. David in his prosperity said, "I shall never be moved," and soon fell. In his sorrow he said, "Let Him do what is pleasing in His sight." See how affliction made him truly wise.

So do not mistake the bitterness of the moment for God's absence. The treasure of the gospel is like a pearl held in the hand: the world does not see it, and often in the storm even you may think it lost. But it is not. The Spirit does not allow the affliction to touch the inner sanctuary. Outwardly we seem battered, but inwardly we are kept. The eye of faith sees heaven already prepared, and that is why the righteous never beg their bread forever. The provision may be hidden, but it is sure. If earthly comforts fail, they fail to teach you that your true habitation is not here. In heaven alone shall the righteous dwell for ever. That is their everlasting home.

Therefore, when you pray, "Keep us from falling," do not ask to be spared every trouble. Ask rather to be kept from the fall of unbelief, from the sin that would make the affliction a curse instead of a cure. Give thanks in all things, even the hard things. For tribulation works patience, and patience experience, and experience a hope that does not put to shame. The enemy would use sorrow to cast you down; but if you bear it bravely, you turn his own weapon against him. An angry man meeting a patient one does no harm, but rather disarms himself. So affliction, met by faith, becomes a servant instead of a master.

You have not been forsaken. The very fact that you feel the need to cry out proves the Spirit is at work. He reminds you again of what you already know, as a lantern to one whose sight is dimmed by smoke. Hold fast to what you have heard from the beginning: the righteous are chastened, but not abandoned; cast down, but not destroyed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing. The Lord holds your hand. He will not leave you in the enemy's grip.

The cry you’re bringing from Psalm 37 is one that stretches across every generation of believers. You look at the promise that the righteous are never forsaken, and yet life can feel so heavy that the heart whispers, “Has God forgotten me?” But the deepest answer to your question lies not in our circumstances, but in what Jesus endured on the cross. When He cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” He was being forsaken for a moment so that you would never have to be forsaken eternally. All the abandonment our sins deserved fell on Him. So when you stand in Christ, that promise in Psalm 37 is not a fragile hope, it is a blood-bought certainty. The Father turned His face from the Son for those dark hours, and because of that, He will never turn His face from you.

What you are processing now sounds like the furnace of affliction. Not the fire of punishment, God never punishes His children; He corrects, He refines, but He does not pour out wrath on those who are in Christ. The furnace you may be in is not sent to destroy you, but to burn away the dross, the impurities, the things that cling to your soul and dull your vision of Him. It is easy in the heat of it to accuse God of forsaking you, just as we see so often in Scripture when people felt forgotten. But He reminds us, “Can a woman forget her nursing child? … Yet I will not forget you.” Feelings lie to us. The truth is that He has inscribed you on the palms of His hands. He is not distant; He is holding you steady.

That prayer you offered from Psalm 37:24 is beautiful, and it aligns perfectly with what God is doing. Though you stumble, you will not be utterly cast down, because the Lord holds your hand. And what does it mean that He holds you? It means He is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before His presence with exceeding joy. The same power that holds every atom of the universe together is the grip that keeps your soul. You are not dangling over a cliff; you are being led step by step, even when the path seems dark.

In the middle of the furnace, time does strange things. Hours feel like days, and you might wonder if relief will ever come. But your light affliction, and compared to the weight of glory being prepared for you, it is light, is only for a moment. The contrast is staggering: a brief, momentary trial is working for you an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. So do not let your eyes fix on the pain alone. Lift them to the eternal. God is not only sustaining you now, but He is using this very season to shape something in you that will shine forever in His kingdom.

What do you do while you wait? Cling to His word. Let His statutes be your songs in the house of your pilgrimage. David learned, “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word.” The affliction can become a strange mercy, a guide that drives you back to what is solid when everything else gives way. You are not forsaken. You are being refined, and the Refiner never leaves His work. One day you will look back and say, “It was good that I was afflicted,” because you will see how He was near all along, teaching you His ways and deepening your hope in Him.
