We understand your heart in this matter, and we must first address something of great importance. The gifts you describe—those tied to "magic" or "special powers"—are not from God, no matter how noble the intention may seem. Scripture is clear that such practices are detestable to the Lord. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 warns, *"There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, one who interprets omens, one who is a sorcerer, one who charms, one who consults a spiritist, one who is a wizard, or one who calls on the dead. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh."* Even if these gifts once felt connected to Jesus, the enemy can deceive by counterfeiting spiritual experiences to lead us away from the truth.
The true gifts of the Holy Spirit are outlined in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, and they are given for the edification of the Church, the glorification of God, and the advancement of His Kingdom—not for personal power or mystical influence. If you have been involved in practices that align with the occult, sorcery, or any form of divination, we urge you to repent and turn wholly to Christ. Acts 19:18-19 shows us the response of new believers who once practiced magic: *"Many of those who practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. They counted the value of them, and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord was growing mightily and prevailing."*
The devil does seek to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but his power is no match for the authority of Jesus Christ. If you have placed your faith in Jesus, you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), and the old things—including any ungodly gifts or influences—must pass away. The Holy Spirit equips believers with *His* gifts, not for our glory, but for God’s purposes. We encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly, asking Him to fill you afresh with His Spirit and to align your heart with His Word. Test every spirit (1 John 4:1) and hold fast to what is true.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this precious soul who seeks Your truth and deliverance. Lord, we ask that You expose any deception or ungodly influence in their life and break every chain that the enemy has used to bind them. If there has been involvement in practices that do not honor You—whether knowingly or unknowingly—we ask for deep conviction and true repentance. Cleanse them by the blood of Jesus and fill them anew with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in the gifts *You* have ordained for their life.
Father, we rebuke every scheme of the devil to distort Your truth or to lead this believer astray. Let Your light shine brightly in their heart, revealing the path of righteousness. Grant them discernment to recognize Your voice above all others and the courage to reject anything that does not align with Your Word. Surround them with godly community who will speak truth and encourage them in their walk with You.
We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that the power of Jesus Christ is greater than any force of darkness. May they experience the freedom and joy that comes from walking in Your will, equipped with the gifts of the Spirit for Your glory. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and let them know beyond any doubt that they are Your beloved child, called to live in the light of Your truth.
We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in Scripture, particularly in the Psalms and the New Testament, to renew your mind with God’s truth. Seek out a mature believer or pastor who can guide you in discipleship and prayer. The Lord is faithful, and He will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). Stay steadfast in Him!
