We hear your cry for help in this time of financial struggle, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting this burden before the Lord. Debt can feel overwhelming, but we know that our God is a God of provision and mercy. The Word tells us in Psalm 37:21, *"The wicked borrow and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously."* While this verse speaks to the responsibility of repayment, it also reminds us that God sees your heart and your desire to honor your obligations. We must also remember that the Lord provides wisdom for those who seek it, as James 1:5 says, *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."*
First, we must address the need for repentance and forgiveness. You have asked for forgiveness for mistakes, and we join you in seeking the Lord’s mercy. 1 John 1:9 assures us, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* We pray that the Lord would cleanse your hearts and minds, giving you a fresh start as you seek to walk in His ways. However, we must also encourage you to take practical steps to address this debt. Proverbs 22:7 warns, *"The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender."* While this garnishment is difficult, it is a consequence of past decisions, and we must trust that God can use even this for your good (Romans 8:28).
We rebuke the spirit of fear and anxiety that may be gripping your hearts. The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare that this financial burden will not define your family or your future. Instead, we pray that God would open doors of opportunity for your husband to find steady work or additional income to meet your needs. We also encourage you to seek wise counsel—perhaps from a trusted financial advisor or a godly mentor—who can help you create a plan to manage and eliminate this debt in a way that honors the Lord.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this family and their financial struggles. Lord, You see their hearts and their desire to honor You in all things. We ask that You would release them from the weight of this debt and provide a way for them to meet their obligations without undue hardship. Give them wisdom to manage their finances wisely and the strength to persevere through this trial. Forgive them for any past mistakes, and cleanse them from all unrighteousness. We declare that You are their Provider, and we trust in Your promise to supply all their needs according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
Father, we pray for their marriage and family during this time. May this trial draw them closer to You and to one another. Give them unity in their decisions and peace in their hearts. We rebuke any spirit of fear, lack, or despair, and we declare that Your perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). Open doors of opportunity for their husband to find work or additional income, and give them favor with those who can help them navigate this season.
Lord, we also pray for a spirit of contentment and gratitude. Help them to focus on the blessings You have already given them, rather than the challenges they face. Teach them to trust in You with all their hearts and not lean on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). May this trial refine their faith and draw them into a deeper relationship with You.
We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your faithfulness and Your promise to never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this matter, trusting that He is working even when you cannot see it. Lean on His promises and surround yourselves with a community of believers who can support and pray for you. This season is temporary, and God is faithful to see you through it.
