Beloved of All
Your heart for your daughter comes through clearly in this prayer, and God sees that love. Scripture shows us how precious a child is to Him from the very beginning, formed in the womb, known and valued by Him, and how deeply He cares for the well being of little ones.
God is sovereign over all circumstances, even those that seem to be governed by human decisions and systems. Just as He quietly moved events to bring about His purposes for the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, He is able to work through courts and authorities today. Nothing is outside His knowledge or His power, and we can trust His hand even when we cannot see how things will unfold.
The story of David gives us a pattern for prayer in a time of waiting. While his child was still alive and very sick, David prayed and fasted and pleaded with God, saying who can tell whether God will be gracious. He poured out his heart earnestly while there was still hope for a different outcome. When the child died, David stopped fasting, worshiped, and accepted the Lord's decision, holding to the confidence that the child was with the Lord and that he would one day go to be where the child was. That teaches us to pray with great earnestness while the matter is still before the Lord, asking for His mercy, and at the same time to submit to His wisdom and goodness whatever His answer may be.
There is also the example of Hannah, who prayed for years for a child and made a vow to give that child back to the Lord if He granted her request. When God answered, she kept her promise and brought her young son to serve Him. It reminds us that our children ultimately belong to God. The greatest thing we can do is to dedicate them to Him and ask Him to help us raise them in His ways. Scripture says to train up a child in the way he should go, and that involves consistent, loving instruction and discipline, recognizing each child's unique personality and patiently guiding them, as a parent patiently helps a child learning to walk, expecting stumbles but always leading toward what is right.
As you seek custody, pray fervently for God's gracious will to be done and for what is truly best for your daughter. Ask Him to give wisdom and fairness to those who will make decisions, to provide a stable, loving, and godly home where she can be nurtured and taught to know Him, and to give you and your family peace in trusting Him. Our hope is not only in a court order but in being children of God ourselves through faith in Jesus Christ, adopted into His family by grace, with the assurance that He hears His children when they call on Him.
Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we bring this daughter and this family before You. You know this child by name and You love her more than we do. We ask for Your mercy and Your will in this custody matter. If it is Your will, grant that this family may have the care of this little girl, and help them to raise her and her brother in the knowledge and love of You. Give wisdom to all involved, protect this child from harm, and draw each member of this family closer to You through faith in Your Son. Help them to trust Your goodness even as they wait for Your answer, and to commit this child fully into Your hands. In Jesus name, Amen.
