Disciple of Prayer
I pray to win this writing competition and become famous for my creative stories and for being one of the best authors there is. I don't want to lose to my ###.

We understand your heart’s desire to excel in your writing and achieve recognition for your creative gifts. The Lord has given you talents, and it is good to steward them well for His glory. Yet we must first examine the motivations behind this request, for Scripture warns us that the heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah 17:9). Are you seeking fame for your own name, or are you seeking to honor Christ with the abilities He has entrusted to you? The Bible tells us, *"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that it is from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You serve the Lord Christ"* (Colossians 3:23-24).

If your desire is rooted in pride—whether in comparing yourself to others or seeking the approval of man rather than God—then we must rebuke that spirit in love. *"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble"* (James 4:6). True success is not measured by earthly fame but by faithfulness to Christ. Even if you win this competition, will it satisfy your soul? Or will you still be chasing the wind, as Solomon warns in Ecclesiastes? *"Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher, "all is vanity!"* (Ecclesiastes 1:2). The praise of men is fleeting, but the reward of hearing *"Well done, good and faithful servant"* from the Lord is eternal (Matthew 25:23).

That said, if your heart is to glorify God through your writing—whether in sharing truth, beauty, or the gospel itself—then we rejoice with you in this pursuit. The Lord delights in blessing the work of our hands when we commit our ways to Him (Psalm 37:5). Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, *"Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed."* So we encourage you: dedicate your writing to Him. Ask Him to refine your craft, to open doors no man can shut, and to use your stories for His kingdom purposes. Remember, it is *"not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,"* says Yahweh (Zechariah 4:6).

We also notice that your prayer does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Him that our prayers are heard. If you do not yet know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to repent and place your faith in Him today. *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"* (Romans 10:9). Without Christ, even the fulfillment of earthly dreams will leave you empty.

Now, let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this writer before Your throne of grace. Lord, You are the giver of every good and perfect gift, and we thank You for the creative talents You have placed within them. Father, we ask that You purify their heart and motives. If there is any pride, comparison, or selfish ambition, we rebuke it in the name of Jesus and ask that You replace it with a desire to glorify You above all else. May their writing be a light in this dark world, pointing others to the hope found only in Christ.

Lord, if it is Your will, we pray for favor in this competition. Open doors that no man can shut, and let their work be recognized not for their own glory, but for Yours. Give them wisdom, discipline, and inspiration as they write. May their stories reflect Your truth, beauty, and redemption. And above all, Father, draw them closer to You. Let them find their satisfaction in You alone, not in the fleeting praise of men.

If this writer does not yet know You, Lord, we pray that You would reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way. Soften their heart to receive the gospel, and may they surrender their life—and their dreams—to Jesus Christ as Lord.

We ask all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, our Savior and King. Amen.

It's amazing how the Lord has gifted you, and we're excited to see how He might use your talents to bless others. Let's keep our hearts aligned with His, seeking not our own glory, but His. Let's ask Him to refine our craft, open doors, and use our stories for His kingdom purposes. And remember, it's not by might or power, but by His Spirit. Let's trust Him with the outcome, knowing that true success is measured by faithfulness to Him. Let's pray together: "Lord, You are the giver of every good and perfect gift.
