From vice building to church

We hear your heart’s cry as you stand at the threshold between darkness and light, between the chaos of a vice-ridden world and the sanctuary of God’s presence. The contrast you describe is stark, and we sense the weight of what you’ve witnessed, perhaps even participated in. But take heart, for the Lord does not turn away from those who seek Him, no matter where they’ve been. Scripture declares, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18 WEB). You are not too far gone; His grace is greater than your past.

We must address the reality of what you’ve described: a place of mayhem, prostitution, and murder is a stronghold of the enemy, where lives are exploited, souls are ensnared, and God’s design for human dignity is trampled. The Bible warns, "Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals’" (1 Corinthians 15:33 WEB). If you have been entangled in sin, whether through involvement in such activities or simply being surrounded by them, we urge you to repent and turn away completely. Jesus said, "If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having your two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire" (Mark 9:43 WEB). This is not a call to self-harm, but a sobering reminder of the seriousness of sin and the urgency of fleeing from it.

Yet we also rejoice that you are now looking toward the church, a place of refuge, truth, and transformation. The church is not a building, but a body of believers who have been washed by the blood of Christ and are called to walk in holiness. If you are seeking salvation, know this: it is only through Jesus Christ that you can be reconciled to God. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all" (1 Timothy 2:5-6 WEB). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we invite you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that Jesus died for you and rose again, and receive His forgiveness and new life.

Let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with a heart that is heavy yet hopeful. We lift up this dear one who stands between the darkness of the past and the light of Your truth. Lord, You are the God who rescues, who redeems, and who restores. We ask that You would break every chain of sin, addiction, or association that has kept them bound. Cleanse them by the blood of Jesus, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Give them the courage to walk away from all that dishonors You and the strength to embrace the new life You offer.

Father, we pray for the church they are turning to, that it would be a place of genuine love, sound doctrine, and holy living. Surround them with believers who will disciple them, encourage them, and hold them accountable. May they find not just a building, but a family in Christ. Protect their mind from the lies of the enemy and their heart from the temptations of the world. Help them to walk in purity, purpose, and power as they follow You.

Lord, if there are wounds from the past, whether from their own choices or the sins of others, we ask that You would heal them. Replace shame with Your peace, guilt with Your grace, and fear with Your love. May they come to know You not just as Savior, but as their closest Friend, their Good Shepherd, and their eternal Hope.

We declare over them the promise of 2 Corinthians 5:17: "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." May they experience the reality of this transformation every day. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Now, dear one, take practical steps to walk in this new life. Find a Bible-believing church where the Word of God is preached without compromise. Get involved in a small group or discipleship relationship where you can grow in your faith. Read the Bible daily, start with the Gospel of John, and let God’s Word renew your mind. If you have been involved in sin, confess it to a trusted believer and seek accountability. The enemy will try to pull you back into old patterns, but resist him, standing firm in your faith (1 Peter 5:9).

You are not defined by your past. You are defined by who God says you are: forgiven, redeemed, and deeply loved. The journey from vice to virtue is not easy, but it is worth it. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is with you, and He will never leave you.

We're so glad you shared this with us. What a beautiful picture of how God rescues and repurposes a life. Going from a place of mayhem, madam, and murder into a church family is nothing short of a modern-day miracle, and we're celebrating with you right now.

The fact that you see the contrast so clearly tells us God has already done a deep work in your heart. That kind of change isn't something we muster up on our own; it's the kindness of Jesus drawing us out of the dark and into His light. We've seen others walk a similar road, and one thing that often helps solidify that new footing is simply telling the story, you've already started here. When you're ready, consider sharing this testimony with someone in your church or a small group. It not only strengthens your own faith but becomes a powerful anchor of hope for others who may still feel trapped where you used to be.

Also, as wonderful as this fresh start is, there might be moments when old memories or temptations try to creep back. If that ever happens, please don't hide it or feel like you've failed. Reach out to a pastor, a trusted friend at church, or even us again. Transformation is often a journey with bumps, and you don't have to walk it alone.

Lord Jesus, we thank You for plucking our friend out of such a dangerous and broken place and planting them right in the middle of Your family. Give them courage to keep walking forward, and protect their heart from anything that would try to drag them back. Surround them with wise, loving people who will help them grow. In Your name, amen.

What a theme for holy contemplation, a den of iniquity aspiring to become a temple of the living God! The very stones cry out for cleansing. But let it be known that no mere change of sign or whitewashing of walls can accomplish this wonder. The redemption that would turn a house of murder and lewdness into a church must be the work of Him who alone can say, “I have found a ransom.” For it is not the building that most needs deliverance, but the souls that shall assemble there, and the hands that would raise the roof-beams.

We must not select some favourite evil and spare it. “Not a hoof shall be left behind.” If that place once echoed with the song of the drunkard and the oath of the violent, then nothing that belongs to its former ways may be brought into the sanctuary of God. The blood of the Lamb must be upon the doorposts of that house, and upon every conscience that crosses its threshold. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of grace as deliverance from its guilt. Let none imagine that a building steeped in shame can be consecrated while one secret lust is fondly indulged, or one unrepented vice remains hidden under the floorboards. O, there is plenteous redemption with Christ, a redemption that cleanseth to the uttermost, but it will not share a heart with a spared abomination.

Yet marvel at the mercy which would take a place of mayhem and a haunt of the strange woman, and make it a Bethel where the Most High meets with His people. The clock of mercy struck for such a transformation when the eternal purpose decreed it. Think of it, where once were blasphemies, now psalms; where the murderer lurked, now the broken in heart find healing; where the madam schemed, now the pure in heart see God. This is no common wonder, it is the glorious deliverance which Christ has effected for many. Only see to it that the church there planted consists not merely of brick and ordinance, but of living stones, truly delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. Otherwise, the reformed house becomes a whited sepulchre, and the hypocrisy within more deadly than the open vice without.

Go forth, then, with trembling and faith. As Israel could not stay in Egypt once the redemption price was accepted and the blood was sprinkled, so that place can no longer remain a cage of every unclean bird when the cross is planted there. But let all who labor in this holy ambition watch and pray, that they themselves be not partakers of that evil past, but witnesses of a full and present salvation. What a standing sermon that building shall be, a trophy of grace, a monument to plenteous redemption, where men shall say, “Behold, where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.”

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You speak of leaving a den of every wickedness, violence, lust, and bloodshed, and coming into the house of God. That desire itself is a mercy, a first stirring of grace. But do not imagine that stepping through the church doors is enough, as if a change of building alone reconciles you to heaven. True repentance is not a mere moving of the body but a rending of the heart.

Consider Esau. He sought the blessing with loud cries and tears, yet found no place of repentance. Why? Because his grief was not hatred of the sin but sorrow over losing what he wanted. He still intended murder against his brother, nursing that poison while weeping. So I warn you with love: tears and resolutions are worthless unless you turn utterly from the evil itself. You must not merely walk out of that place; you must crucify every affection that drew you there. The madam and the murderer must die within you, their greed, their lust, their rage, laid at the foot of the cross and left there.

Do not despair. There is repentance, and it has mighty power. Even one sunk in the depths of filth can rise, can have Christ formed in him again. This is not a second baptism, but a fiery renewal of the soul through confession, tears of true compunction, and a life utterly changed. Come to the church, confess your sins plainly, and begin the long labor of undoing what you have been. Flee not only the building but every companion and circumstance that enticed you. Cling to the teaching of God, taste the good word, and let the powers of the age to come strengthen you. But do not mock Christ by bringing your old self to the altar while your heart clings to its darkness. Let your leaving be a real dying, and your coming to the church a real rising.

What a weight stands behind those few words you have shared. The building you left was a house of destruction. The street outside may still look the same, the sky above it no different, but your feet have crossed a threshold that only the Spirit of God could lead a person over. That is not a small thing. Mayhem, a madam, murder: these are the works of darkness, and to walk out of that shadow into the light of Christ is nothing less than a resurrection.

The true church is not made of brick or organized programs, though we gather in buildings and must order our life together. The church is the body of Christ, purchased by His own blood on the cross. When Peter stood up on the day of Pentecost and preached, about three thousand souls were added to that body. The Lord was building His church then, and He is building it now, drawing His own out of every kind of bondage. The book of Acts shows us what God intends the church to be: a people alive with His presence, full of good works, devoted to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. The power was not simply an initial thrust to get things started, after which the church would limp along in human effort. No, the Lord still desires to fill His people with His Spirit, to produce love and holiness from the inside out.

I must be honest with you: the history of the visible church on earth has often been a story of failure. Systems grew corrupt early on. Men have sought power, compromised with the world, legislated external rules while their hearts grew cold. Even a church that holds to sound doctrine, like Ephesus, can lose its first love, and when that happens the Lord warns that He will remove the lampstand from its place. The absence of love means the absence of His felt presence. We never want to settle for a shell of religion when we have been invited into a living relationship with Jesus Christ.

What you are stepping into is far more than a building or an organization. You are stepping into a living fellowship with the One who said, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” The Lord always has His true witness. He calls His own out from every corrupt and worldly system, and He knows those who are His by name. Your past does not define you anymore. Christ has made you new, and He will complete the work He began. Let your eyes stay on Him as the head of the church. Let His Word guide you, and let His Spirit teach you to love in deed and truth. Walk in the light as He is in the light, and you will find the cleansing that never stops.

May the Lord make you a living stone in His spiritual house. May you know His voice and follow it. And may the power that broke the chains of that old life fill you now for a life of service and worship that bears lasting fruit.
