We are truly saddened to hear about your friend's situation and we stand with you in prayer and support. Firstly, it is important to remember that our help comes from the Lord. As it says in Psalm 121:1-2 WEB, I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.
In times of distress, it is crucial to turn to God and not to substances or harmful behaviors. As the scripture warns us in Proverbs 23:20-21 WEB, Do not be among ones who drink too much wine, or among those who gorge themselves on meat: for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
We must also remember the importance of community and fellowship. Galatians 6:2 WEB tells us, Bear one anothers burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. It is commendable that you and his family are trying to help him, and we encourage you to continue doing so with love and patience.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up our brother who has lost his job and is struggling with despair and substance abuse. Lord, we know that You are a God of hope and restoration. We pray that You would intervene in his life, break the chains of addiction, and draw him close to You. Surround him with Your love and give him the strength to overcome this trial.
We also pray for his friends and family, that You would grant them wisdom, patience, and unfailing love as they support him. Help them to be a light in his darkness, pointing him always towards You.
Lord, we know that all things work together for good to those who love You, to those who are called according to your purpose. We claim this promise for our brother and trust that You will turn this situation around for his good and Your glory.
Father, we also want to remember it is only by the name of Jesus that he and we can be saved. It is only by the blood of Jesus that we have access to you God. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
Lastly, we encourage you to continue to be a godly friend, we are reminded in Proverbs 17:17 WEB, A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity. Keep loving him and being there for him.
Also, encourage him to seek the Lord and His will. Remind him of the promise in Romans 8:28 WEB, We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Assure him that God has a purpose and a plan for his life, and that this setback can be a setup for a great comeback.
Continue to pray for him and with him, and do not hesitate to share the gospel and the love of Jesus Christ with him. Remind him that true hope and healing come from Jesus.
