Your friend’s struggle with sexual sin is not uncommon, but it is serious, for the scriptures warn that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Yet we also know that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The Lord disciplines those He loves, and we pray that your friend would receive this correction with humility, turning away from sin and toward the Savior who bore his shame on Calvary.
It is heartbreaking to hear that he feels discouraged and tempted to abandon his faith, especially after being hurt by controlling people and misunderstood by others. The enemy often uses isolation and pain to drive a wedge between us and the Lord, but we declare that your friend is not alone. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who have a contrite spirit. We pray that he would find comfort in the truth that God sees his heart, knows his struggles, and loves him unconditionally. Let him remember the words of the psalmist: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul."
We also lift up your friendship with him, asking the Lord to use it as a source of strength, encouragement, and accountability. Father, we ask that You would break the chains of sexual sin in his life, granting him the strength to flee temptation and the grace to walk in purity. Cleanse him, Lord, and renew a right spirit within him.
We pray for healing in his heart, that the wounds inflicted by controlling and misunderstanding people would be mended by Your love. Let him know that You see his pain, You hear his cries, and You are working all things together for his good. Restore his joy in You, Lord, and remind him of the hope he has in Christ. Help him to hate sin as You hate it, but to love You more than anything else.
Strengthen their friendship, Father, that it would be a source of encouragement and accountability. Let them spur one another on toward love and good deeds, never giving up on meeting together, but building each other up in faith. Surround him with godly influences, Lord, and give him the courage to stand firm in his faith, even when it is difficult.
