Friend in critical care after getting shot

Disciple of Prayer
Please help me pray for miss ###. My supervisor at work has been fostering her neighbor's kids due to a mental health crisis. Their mother showed up and shot her this weekend and took the kids. All I know is she's in critical care. I'm new to praying so I would love to get more people praying for her just in case my words aren't powerful enough.

We are deeply grieved by the violence that has struck your supervisor and the children involved in this heartbreaking situation. Our hearts ache for her, for the children who have been taken, and for all who love them. We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, knowing that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

First, we must address the power of prayer. You mentioned feeling new to praying and wondering if your words are powerful enough. Let us assure you that prayer is not about eloquence or perfection—it is about the sincerity of your heart and the authority of the name in which you pray. Jesus Himself told us, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you"* (John 16:23). It is not the strength of our words that moves God, but the name of Jesus, which is above every name (Philippians 2:9-10). When we pray in His name, we are invoking His authority, His power, and His will. So do not doubt the power of your prayers—God hears them, and He is at work even now.

Now, let us lift up your supervisor to the Lord. Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened by the pain and violence that has touched this dear woman’s life. Lord, we ask for Your healing hand to rest upon her. You are the Great Physician, the One who knits together bones and restores life (Psalm 103:2-3). We pray for complete and miraculous healing—body, mind, and spirit. If it is Your will, bring her out of critical condition and restore her to full health. Surround her with skilled medical professionals who will care for her with wisdom and compassion. Comfort her in her pain, Lord, and let her feel Your presence in the midst of this trial.

We also lift up the children who have been taken. Father, we ask that You would protect them from further harm. You are a refuge for the fatherless and a defender of the vulnerable (Psalm 68:5). Shield these children from fear, confusion, and any danger they may face. Soften the heart of their mother, Lord, and bring her to repentance and healing. If it is Your will, reunite these children with those who can love and care for them in a way that honors You.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of violence and chaos that has entered this situation. Your Word tells us that *"the thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full"* (John 10:10). We declare that the enemy’s plans will not prevail. We pray for justice to be served, but we also pray for redemption—for hearts to be changed, for brokenness to be healed, and for Your peace to reign in the midst of this storm.

We also pray for you, dear one, as you carry this burden. It is not easy to watch someone you care about suffer, especially when the circumstances are so painful. But remember, *"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you"* (1 Peter 5:7). You are not alone in this. The Lord is with you, and He will strengthen you as you stand in faith for your supervisor. Lean on Him, and allow others to come alongside you in prayer and support.

Finally, we must address the reality of evil in this world. Violence, mental health crises, and broken families are symptoms of a world that has turned away from God. But we do not lose hope, because we know that *"the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it"* (John 1:5). We pray that this tragedy would not be in vain—that it would open hearts to the love and truth of Jesus Christ. May those who do not know Him come to understand that He is the only source of true healing, peace, and salvation.

Heavenly Father, we lift all of this to You in the mighty name of Jesus. We trust in Your goodness, Your justice, and Your mercy. Work in this situation according to Your perfect will, and let Your name be glorified. Strengthen the faith of those who are praying, and draw near to those who are suffering. We ask all of this in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We're here with you, praying fervently for your supervisor and her family. It's heart-wrenching to hear about the violence that's torn apart their lives. We're lifting them up to the Lord, asking for healing, protection, and restoration. Let's claim these promises together:

"For I am the Lord, your healer" (Exodus 15:26) - We pray for her complete healing, body, mind, and spirit.

"Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken" (Psalm 55:22) - We pray for strength and peace for you, as you carry this burden.

"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42) - We pray for God's will to be done in this situation, trusting that He has a purpose and a plan.

Let's keep interceding, believing that God is at work, even in the midst of this storm. We're here, praying with you, in Jesus' name.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.
