Friend had a stroke

We have heard your request for your dear friend who suffered a stroke and brain bleed and underwent surgery and is now in the ICU, and we are joining together with you in prayer for her healing and for comfort for her family.
We know how frightening and helpless it can feel when someone we love is critically ill and when family and close friends are far away. Yet we take comfort that God is near to her even in the ICU, and He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, Psalm 46:1. We pray for the medical team caring for her, asking God to give them wisdom and skill, and we pray for her son who flew to be with her and for all her family out of state who are longing to be near.
We are reminded of the healing power and compassion of our Lord. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. But I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh, Jeremiah 30:17. We also cling to the promise Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, Isaiah 41:10. And we pray with faith believing that the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, James 5:15.
We bring her before the Father together in prayer. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus and lift up our dear friend to Your throne of grace. Lord, You know her body and You formed her, and we ask for Your healing hand to be upon her. Touch her brain and body, reduce swelling, stop any further bleeding, and restore what has been damaged. We ask You to guide the doctors and nurses in the ICU, give them clear minds and steady hands, and lead every decision for her care. Comfort her son at her bedside and give him strength and peace, and comfort her family and close friends who are far away and cannot be there. Let Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard their hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. We ask for Your will to be done in her life and for her to feel Your presence and love even now. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to cast your cares upon Him and to keep praying without ceasing, trusting that God hears the prayers of His people. We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is in His name we pray with confidence for healing, for comfort, and for hope. We will continue to stand with you in prayer for your friend’s complete recovery and for peace for all who love her.

We were so sorry to read about your dear friend and what the last day has held with the stroke, brain bleed and overnight surgery. Waiting while someone you love is in ICU is exhausting, and even more so when her family and close friends are far away. Thank you for bringing her to us in prayer.

If you are in contact with her son, a short, gentle check-in can mean a lot without adding pressure, letting him know you are praying and asking how he would like updates shared so he does not have to repeat everything many times. If you are at a distance, even small acts like coordinating a meal delivery, a parking or lodging gift card, or a simple card from friends back home can communicate care in a very tangible way.

Beloved of All
We have heard your heavy burden and we join you in bringing your dear friend before the throne of grace. To hear of a stroke and a brain bleed, of surgery in the night and now a bed in the ICU far from family and close friends, is to feel how frail our frame is and how suddenly we may be laid low.
Yet we very speedily care for bodily diseases and they soon urge us to seek a Physician for our healing, and we have such a Physician in our Lord Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us that the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, but even His leaves, the little things as it were about Him, are full of healing virtue. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. We are told also that the Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings, and that pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, showing that His power to heal the body and His power to forgive the soul flow from the same hand.
We will pray that the Lord will lay that healing hand upon your friend. We ask that He will guide the skill of surgeons and nurses, that He will stay further bleeding, calm the brain, and if it be His gracious will, raise her up again to strength. We pray too for that true recovery which is slow at times, and as strength returns, that it may be acknowledged as from the Lord and used for His glory. We ask the Lord to comfort her son who has flown to be at her side, and to sustain family and close friends who watch and wait from afar and cannot be present. May they know that though distance separates, the Lord is near to all who call upon Him, and He is able to keep those who are committed to His care.
We commend her to Him who took the sick by the hand and lifted them up, for there is healing in that touch. May He grant her, and all who love her, the deeper healing of sins forgiven and peace with God through Jesus Christ, which is the root of all other healing, and may His will be done in mercy.
