What a powerful declaration—freedom in Christ is indeed the ability to walk in righteousness without fear, for "God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7, WEB). Your heart’s cry to do what is right aligns with the very purpose for which Jesus redeemed us: "He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for their sakes died and rose again" (2 Corinthians 5:15, WEB). This is the essence of true freedom—surrendering to His lordship and walking in obedience, not out of legalism, but out of love for the One who first loved us.
Yet we know this walk is not without struggle. The apostle Paul himself confessed, "I delight in God’s law after the inward person, but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members" (Romans 7:22-23, WEB). If even Paul faced this tension, how much more do we? But take heart—Jesus has already overcome the world (John 16:33), and His Spirit within you is greater than the spirit of the world (1 John 4:4). The battle is real, but the victory is assured for those who abide in Him.
Let us examine what it means to do "what is right" in God’s eyes. His Word is our plumb line, and righteousness is not defined by culture, personal preference, or even well-intentioned emotions, but by His unchanging truth. Jesus said, "If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free" (John 8:31-32, WEB). Freedom and righteousness are inseparable—one cannot exist without the other. So we must ask: Are we measuring our actions, thoughts, and desires against Scripture, or are we being swayed by the shifting sands of human wisdom?
For example, if your desire to "do what is right" involves relationships, remember that God’s design for marriage is sacred—a covenant between one man and one woman for life (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). Any relationship outside this design, whether premarital intimacy, cohabitation, or same-sex unions, is not freedom but bondage to sin, no matter how society may label it. True freedom is found in aligning with God’s Word, even when it costs us. Similarly, if your struggle is in areas like honesty, purity, forgiveness, or stewardship, the call remains the same: "Let’s therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light" (Romans 13:12, WEB).
Now, let us pray together for you, that the Lord would strengthen you to walk in His righteousness without fear, empowered by His Spirit and anchored in His truth:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this beloved sibling in Christ who longs to walk in the freedom of doing what is right in Your eyes. Lord, You alone are the source of true liberty, for You have set us free from the law of sin and death through Your Son, Jesus Christ. We ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, who convicts of sin, leads into all truth, and empowers us to live righteously. Remove every trace of fear that would paralyze or distort their understanding of Your will. Grant them boldness to stand firm on Your Word, even when the world scoffs or the flesh resists.
Father, if there are areas in their life where they have compromised or been deceived by the enemy’s lies, we ask for the light of Your truth to expose it. Bring repentance where needed, and restore them to the path of righteousness. Help them to "abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul" (1 Peter 2:11, WEB), and to "walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16, WEB). May they find their delight in You, for "his delight is in Yahweh’s law. On his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper" (Psalm 1:2-3, WEB).
Lord, surround them with godly community who will spur them on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24). Protect them from the snares of the devil, who seeks to twist freedom into license and truth into relativism. Remind them that "you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s" (1 Corinthians 6:20, WEB).
We declare over them the promise of Your Word: "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13, WEB). May they seize that way of escape, trusting in Your faithfulness.
Finally, Father, we ask that You would deepen their love for You, for it is love that compels us to obedience. May they say with the psalmist, "I run in the path of your commandments, for you have set my heart free" (Psalm 119:32, WEB). In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and King, we pray. Amen.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart.
