Fornication, adultery, restoration

Kensem

Beloved of All
Please lift a special someone (hidden for privacy reasons) to the throne of God in the name of Jesus.
This person is said to be a born-again Christian, but he distanced himself from God due to fornication and therefore married an adulterous woman.
Let us pray in Jesus name that this person accepts God's will regarding their broken relationship, and understands that, as a Christian, they cannot be unequally yoked, but must marry someone who is also a Christian.

Let's pray based on these verses:
Hosea 2:19-23
[19] “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
[20] I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.
[21] “It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the Lord; “I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.
[22] The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
[23] Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’”

Please continue to pray...Keep praying that this brother has unweavering faith in Jesus Christ and the Father's holy plan for his life...AMEN
LET GOD BE GLORIFIED!!

Please continue to pray in Jesus' name that this brother drives the adulterous and godless woman out of his house/flat. Do not persecute those who pray for him and encourage him to follow God. To God be the glory who is Holy forever.

Please continue to pray for this brother. The woman is utterly evil and frustrated and has angry outbursts when she hears the word of God. They can't all stay in the house at the same time for too long; they take it in turns. She is an utterly opposing and aggressive woman; please pray that the brother is saved from her presence and they are separated forever if God wills it... in Jesus' name, amen.

We join you in lifting this hidden brother before the throne of God in the name of Jesus, and we thank you for your burden to pray for his restoration and for unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and the Father's holy plan for his life.

We see in your request a deep concern for sin and for holiness, and we share that concern. Scripture is clear that sexual immorality separates us from fellowship with God and must be repented of. We are told in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, and in Hebrews 13:4 that marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the bed undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. Fornication before marriage and adultery within marriage are both sin before a holy God, and when a born again believer chooses that path he distances himself from God, not because God has moved, but because sin breaks fellowship. Yet there is hope, for 1 John 1:9 promises that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old things have passed away, behold all things have become new. We pray this brother will come to full repentance, confess his fornication and any unfaithfulness, and return to the Lord with a humble and contrite heart.

We also hear your desire to pray that he will understand he cannot be unequally yoked and must marry a Christian, and that he would drive this woman out of his house and be separated from her forever if God wills it. Here we must lovingly correct and bring biblical balance, because while your heart for his holiness is right, the counsel to seek separation from a wife does not align with God's design for marriage. You rightly quote 2 Corinthians 6:14 that we should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and that is a command to be obeyed before entering courtship and marriage. Courtship should be entered with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, looking for a godly spouse, not simply a partner or companion. However, once a covenant of marriage has been entered, even if it was entered unwisely or unequally yoked, God views that covenant as binding. Jesus said in Matthew 19:6, So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart. And Malachi 2:16 tells us that God hates divorce. The apostle Paul gives clear instruction in 1 Corinthians 7:12-15 that if a brother has an unbelieving wife and she is content to live with him, he should not leave her, for the unbelieving spouse is sanctified in the believing spouse, and how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband. If the unbelieving one departs, let her depart, the brother or sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us in peace. Therefore we cannot pray that he would simply drive his wife out in anger or contempt, but we pray that God's will be done in that marriage, whether that be conviction and salvation for the wife and healing and restoration of the marriage to honor God, or if she as an unbeliever chooses to depart and refuses to live in peace, that God would give wisdom and peace in that painful separation. Marriage is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and we must pray for it to be honored, not torn apart by our own hands.

We also must gently rebuke the way this woman is spoken of as utterly evil and godless. We understand the pain and the spiritual conflict you describe, the angry outbursts when the word of God is heard and the inability to dwell peaceably in the same home, which indeed reveals a spiritual battle, for Ephesians 6:12 reminds us our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities and powers of darkness. Yet we are commanded to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us, as in Matthew 5:44, and to not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good in Romans 12:21. She is not beyond the mercy of God, for the very verses you lifted up declare this hope in Hosea 2:19-23, I will betroth you to me forever, Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness and justice, in loving kindness and mercy, I will betroth you to me in faithfulness, and you shall know Yahweh, and then I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy, and I will say to those who were not my people, You are my people, and they shall say, You are my God. Our God is able to take a heart of stone and give a heart of flesh as promised in Ezekiel 36:26, and 2 Peter 3:9 tells us the Lord is not slow concerning his promise, but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. So we pray not with hatred for this woman, but for her salvation, that she would hear the gospel, be convicted of sin, and come to know Jesus Christ as Lord.

We also affirm your call to pray without ceasing and to not persecute those who pray for him and encourage him to follow God. Those who intercede and speak the truth in love should be honored, not opposed, and we pray that this brother will receive godly counsel from mature believers and pastors who can walk with him through repentance, discipleship, and marital wisdom, rather than acting hastily in the flesh.

We now pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and have access to your throne, as Acts 4:12 declares. We lift this brother to you, you know his name and his struggles. We ask that you grant him the gift of repentance, that he would turn from fornication and all sexual sin and be cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Restore to him the joy of your salvation and create in him a clean heart. Strengthen his faith that he may not waver, for James 1:6 calls us to ask in faith without wavering, and Hebrews 11:6 reminds us without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to God. Help him to accept your will regarding his marriage, to honor the covenant he has made, to love his wife as Christ loved the church and to live at peace as far as it depends on him according to Romans 12:18. If it is your will to bring reconciliation and salvation to this home, we pray you would soften this woman's heart, remove anger and opposition, and draw her to yourself, that this marriage might become a testimony of your mercy as in Hosea 2:23. If she refuses to dwell with him in peace and chooses to depart, give him wisdom, protection, and godly counsel to act righteously and not in bitterness. Guard this household from strife and give them a way to live in safety and peace while seeking you. Let no one who prays for this brother be persecuted, but let truth be spoken in love and let your holy name be glorified forever. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our only hope and redeemer, amen.

We are grateful you brought this brother to us in prayer, and we hear how much you care about his walk with the Lord. Carrying concern for someone who has drifted is heavy, especially when you see choices that grieve you and tension in his home.

We want to stand with you in steady, faithful prayer for him. We cannot control another person's decisions or force an outcome, even when we long for restoration, but we can keep entrusting him to God who sees him clearly and loves him deeply. Your part is to remain a quiet, consistent witness, praying that his faith is renewed and that he has wisdom to discern God's will for his life and relationships.

A helpful next step is to keep your intercession private and peaceful, and when he is open, gently encourage him to seek counsel with a trusted pastor who can walk with him personally. If tension in the home ever raises concern for safety for anyone there, please encourage reaching out for wise local support alongside prayer.

Father, we lift this brother to You in Jesus' name. Draw him close, strengthen his trust in You, and give him clarity and courage to follow Your will. Bring Your peace into that household, guard each person there with dignity and safety, and guide every next step according to Your mercy and wisdom. We trust him into Your hands. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your burden and we join you in seeking the Lord for this brother, that God would be glorified and that mercy and holiness would meet together in his life.

Scripture is plain that fornication and adultery are sins against God and against His good design, for marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all intimacy outside or against that covenant is sin. To be unequally yoked is also contrary to the Lord's command, for what fellowship has light with darkness. Therefore we cannot ask God to bless what He calls sin, but we can and do ask Him to show mercy to sinners, for there is a ransom found.

You have asked prayer upon Hosea 2:19-23, and that passage speaks first of what God does for His own. I will betroth you to Me forever in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy, in faithfulness, and you shall know the Lord. This is not a promise that God will prosper our own plans for relationships, but that He betroths a people to Himself through Christ, answering from heaven and showing mercy to those who had not obtained mercy, saying You are My people. Our chief prayer then must be that this brother be truly betrothed to Christ, knowing the Lord indeed.

Repentance and faith are inseparable. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart come into the soul together. Repentance is the daily and hourly duty of a man who believes in Christ. So we pray not for a momentary regret that fades, for judgments apart from divine grace may produce a kind of repentance that gives no glory to God and leads to no lasting deliverance, but for a true turning from fornication and all sin, and a true laying hold of Christ. As it is written, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom, Job 33:24. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance through a ransom if God had not thought of it, and He has provided it in the blood of His Son. We pray that this brother would look to Christ alone for salvation, for forgiveness of sin and security from punishment, and that his faith would be a joyous and confessing faith that declares the works of the Lord.

We pray also that deliverance from the power of darkness would be known as the work of God alone, Colossians 1:13. To be delivered from the guilt of sin and from the fascinating power of sin are both His work. We ask that God would teach this brother the mischief that comes from loving the world, and would deliver him from evil company and from his own sinful desires, keeping back his soul from the Pit.

Concerning his house and this marriage, we must pray with care and with Scripture. If he has entered into the covenant of marriage, then before God that covenant is solemn, and we are not to pray out of bitterness or a desire to persecute, but to pray for holiness, for wisdom, and for the will of the Lord to be done. If this woman is as you describe, opposed to the word of God and given to anger, she is not to be spoken of with contempt as beyond mercy, but to be prayed for as a soul for whom Christ died, that she also might obtain mercy and become one of His people. We pray that God would either bring her to repentance and faith, or, if she remains hardened and makes a godly life impossible and if there be biblical grounds, that God would give clear direction through His word and through godly pastoral counsel, not through strife and angry outbursts. Where there is aggression and it is difficult to dwell together in peace, we pray for safety, for wise counsel from faithful elders, and for a separation from sin and from darkness that is orderly and holy, not vengeful.

So let us pray together. O Lord our God, who art gracious and hast found a ransom, deliver this brother from going down to the Pit. Grant him true repentance and true faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Forgive his fornication and all his sin through the blood of Christ, and deliver him also from the power of darkness, that he may walk in righteousness and justice and lovingkindness before Thee. Give him unwavering faith, not a puppet of impressions, but a faith that keeps hold upon Thy fatherly compassion and that openly declares Thy works. Teach him Thy holy plan for his life, that he may accept Thy will, that he may understand Thy design for marriage, and that henceforth, whether in this covenant or if Thou in Thy providence shouldst order otherwise according to Thy word, he would seek to be yoked only in the Lord. Have mercy also upon this woman, open her eyes to her need of Christ, soften her heart to Thy word, and save her if it be Thy will. Give peace to that household, give wisdom to all who counsel, keep all from sin and from harm, and let whatever is done be done in holiness and in love. We ask this not to satisfy our own desires, but that Thou wouldst be glorified, who art holy forever. Amen.
