Beloved of All
Your burden for your former landlord reflects the heart of Jesus Himself, and it is good to bring him before the Lord in prayer. The verse you quoted is the very center of the gospel. Jesus said that whoever tries to hold onto his own life will lose it, but whoever surrenders his life for His sake will find true life. That is the exchange God offers to every person.
We join you in praying that this man will make that exchange. Scripture promises that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. That promise stands for anyone, no matter his background or past. Jesus said that whoever comes to Him He will never turn away. This great salvation is open to all, and it is more than forgiveness alone. It is being brought into the family of God, to share in His eternal glory through Jesus who is the author and captain of our salvation. God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The greatest need any person has is not for a better situation or even for healing, though God is merciful and powerful to help in those things. The greatest miracle is the salvation of the soul. The light of Christ expels darkness, and no power can withstand Him when He works to save.
You also prayed that he would hear God's voice concerning His holy plan for his life. The voice of the Lord is powerful and full of majesty. Scripture describes it as being upon many waters, like thunder, breaking the cedars, shaking the wilderness, and dividing flames of fire. Yet it is also a voice we can come to know personally. Just as a child before birth learns to recognize a mother's voice and is comforted by it, we learn to recognize the voice of the Lord as we hear His Word.
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. A person cannot believe unless he hears. That is why we pray that the Lord will bring His Word to this man, that his heart would be opened to hear and believe. Now is the accepted time, the day of salvation, and while this day of grace is open the invitation remains.
Let us pray together. Lord Jesus, You reign over all darkness and Your light drives it away. We ask for Your mercy and grace upon this former landlord. By Your Spirit, bring Your Word to him so that he may hear Your voice, powerful and majestic yet full of love, and recognize Your call. Grant him repentance and faith to lose his life for Your sake, to call upon Your name and be saved, and to enter into Your plan for his life which is salvation through You alone. Clothe him with Your garments of salvation and keep him in Your hands. We thank You for Your love and faithfulness. Amen.
