Forgiveness

We hear your heart in this and we want to stand with you as you walk through this difficult journey of forgiveness toward your mother. We understand how discouraging it can feel to release her to God every day and still not feel any change inside. We want to encourage you that what you are doing is obedient and pleasing to God, even when your feelings have not yet caught up.

Forgiveness is often not first a feeling but an act of the will and obedience in response to how we have been forgiven. The scripture tells us in Ephesians 4:32, And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. And in Colossians 3:13, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. We are called to forgive because Christ has forgiven us so much, not because the other person has earned it or because we feel like it. Jesus taught us in Matthew 18:21-22 that we are to forgive not seven times but seventy times seven, which shows us forgiveness can be a daily, even moment by moment, choice to release the debt to God.

We also notice you mentioned releasing your mother to god, and we want to gently encourage you in this. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved and our own sins are forgiven. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. When we come to God through faith in Jesus, believing He died for our sins and rose again, we receive the grace to forgive others. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, for it is His forgiveness flowing to us that empowers us to release others. When we forgive, we are not saying what happened was okay or that there are no boundaries, but we are handing the person and the pain over to God for Him to judge and to heal, as we read in Matthew 6:14-15, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The lack of feeling does not mean you are failing. Feelings often follow obedience over time as God heals the heart. Keep choosing to release her, to bless her in prayer, and to ask God to soften your heart and to work in her life as well. God sees your daily obedience and He is working even when you cannot feel it yet.

We also lift up your driving theory test preparation. We know you want to do well and we want to pray for clarity, peace, and diligence as you study for Sunday.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You for this dear one who is seeking to obey You in forgiveness. Lord, we ask You to pour out Your grace and healing upon this heart. Help us to truly forgive as You have forgiven us in Christ. Where there is hurt, bitterness, or weariness from forgiving daily, bring Your comfort and strength. Teach us to release this mother fully into Your hands, trusting You as the righteous judge and healer. Soften both hearts where needed and bring restoration according to Your will. Help us to not be led by feelings but by Your truth and Your Spirit. And Father, we ask for Your help with the driving theory test. Grant wisdom and understanding as we study, help us to retain what we learn, and give us peace and a sound mind. In James 1:5 we are promised, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. So we ask for that wisdom now. In Philippians 4:6-7 we are told, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Let that peace guard this heart on Sunday and in the days of study. We commit this work to You as Proverbs 16:3 says, Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep bringing your mother to Jesus every day, even with simple prayers like Lord, I choose to forgive her today as You have forgiven me, please heal my heart. And as you study, ask God for focus and rest well the night before. We are trusting God with you for both inner healing and for success in your test.

We appreciate you sharing this so honestly. Choosing every day to release your mother to God when the feelings stay heavy can be discouraging, and it makes sense you would wonder if anything is changing.

What you are describing is common. There is the decision to forgive, that quiet choice to let go of revenge and hand the person over to God, and there is the slower emotional side, where resentment and hurt gradually soften. The decision can be firm even while the emotions still ache, and the emotions often shift up and down with memories and daily stress. Not feeling different right away does not mean your daily choice is empty or unseen by God.

It can help to watch for small, ordinary signs rather than waiting for one big release, like a moment when thoughts of her sting a little less, or when you are able to wish her well for a few minutes. God sees each time you turn her over to Him and He is patient with the process in your heart.

We are also holding your theory test on Sunday in prayer. Breaking the material into short focused sessions with breaks, and getting good rest the night before, can make the studying more manageable and help you go in clear headed.

Father, we lift this heart to You. You know the history with mother and each daily act of releasing her to You. Bring healing in Your timing and keep this one close in Your peace. Give focus, understanding and calm recall as they study and take the theory test. Guide each next step with wisdom. In Jesus' name, amen.

I keep releasing my mother to god everyday but am not feeling any change. Also would you be able to pray for me as I'm going to be studying for my driving theory test on Sunday.

Lord, we forgive, for a lifetime if need be, and trust our souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right, 1 Peter 4:19, in Jesus' Name, John 14:13-14, Amen, 2 Cor 1:20.

Your honest confession concerning forgiveness has been heard and I have brought it before the Lord with you.

You say that you keep releasing your mother to God every day but feel no change, and I would have you know that this very struggle is common to many of the Lord's people. To feel bitter and yet to will to forgive is itself a sign that grace is at work in you. Forgiveness as God gives it is not first a feeling but a deed, and it is divine forgiveness, surprising forgiveness, complete and eternal. The Scripture saith, There is forgiveness with Thee, and where God draws no limit do not you draw any. It is not forgiveness up to a certain point or for a certain kind of wound, but a full forgiveness, the tally destroyed, the record of debt nailed to the cross.

You must not measure the reality of your forgiveness by the stirrings of your heart on any given day. Our Lord not only forgave us at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one. So you are called to continue daily to forgive, as you have been forgiven. Do as you have been taught, believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, and then extend that same forgiveness as you have received. Some of us have had so much manifest forgiveness, so much outward sin forgiven, that for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands.

There is also a bitterness that sanctifies. When we have truly felt the bitterness of our own sin against Christ, who suffered for us, that bitterness makes Christ very sweet and it takes away all bitterness against our fellow men. You say, how much I offended God, and He has forgiven me, how then can I withhold forgiveness from another. The healing leaves of the tree of life are for such wounds as yours. The least thing about Christ is healing, and these leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. Keep bringing your mother before Him, not because your feelings have altered, but because He commands it and because He has dried up the well of bitterness for those who trust Him. In time, as you persist in obedience, the Lord will soften what is hard and the feelings will more and more follow the act of the will.

I have prayed for you and will continue to do so, that the Lord would give you grace to rest in His own forgiveness, that you would know it to be absolute, irreversible and eternal, and that you would be enabled to walk in tenderness and kindness toward your mother out of the abundance of what you have received.

I have also prayed for you concerning your driving theory test on Sunday. May the Lord grant you a clear mind, a calm spirit and diligence in your studying, and may all your labour be done as unto Him. Commit your preparation to Him and ask Him to establish your thoughts, trusting that whether in spiritual trials or in daily duties, He is your helper.

May the God with whom there is forgiveness keep you in perfect peace as you look to Jesus, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

Praying for you and your ### and success in your driving test. God bless you favorably and with peace of mind, joy, happiness, blessings. Amen

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
