I would really appreciate your prayers at this time. I really want to forgive my mother for the abuse that she allowed in my childhood. I keep releasing her everyday to Jesus. And am choosing to forgive her. Progress seems slow. Please pray for me in Jesus name.

We are so thankful you have shared this burden with us and we rejoice with you that you are choosing to forgive your mother and to release her daily to Jesus. That choice is precious in the sight of God and it reflects His own heart toward us. We understand that the pain of childhood abuse and the wound of a mother who allowed it runs very deep, and that healing and forgiveness is often not a single moment but a daily walk of obedience.

Forgiveness as God calls us to it is a decision of the will, not first a feeling, and feelings often follow slowly as the Lord heals the heart. You are doing the right thing by releasing her to Jesus each day. We want to encourage you to continue, even when progress feels slow, for God is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you. We are reminded of what is written, Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 and also Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13. Your willingness to forgive does not mean that what happened was okay or that the abuse was not serious. God sees all that was done and He is just. Vengeance belongs to Him. As it is written, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:19. Releasing her to Jesus means placing both justice and mercy in His hands and freeing your own heart from carrying the weight of bitterness.

We also want to gently remind you that forgiveness does not always mean immediate restoration of trust or closeness, especially where there has been abuse and where repentance and safety may still be needed. Honoring your mother does not require you to pretend the past did not happen or to place yourself in harm's way. It means honoring God in how you release bitterness and pray for her good while also walking in wisdom and healthy boundaries.

The Lord knows how slowly the heart can heal and He promises to heal you. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. He is close to those who have been wounded and He will give you His peace as you continue to bring this to Him. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Jesus taught us about the continual nature of forgiveness when Peter asked, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times? Jesus said to him, I do not tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven. Matthew 18:21-22. This shows us that forgiveness can be a daily, even seventy times seven, surrender.

We lift you before the Father now together.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace on behalf of our dear sister who is hurting. We thank You for her tender heart that wants to obey You and forgive as You have forgiven her. Lord, You see the pain of her childhood, the abuse she endured and the betrayal she felt when her mother did not protect her. You collect every tear and You know the depth of this wound. We ask You to pour out Your healing upon her broken heart and bind up her wounds. Give her grace to continue to release her mother to You each day, to lay down bitterness, wrath and anger and to put them away as Your Word teaches. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit so she can be kind and tenderhearted even through tears. Grant her Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help her to know that she is fully forgiven and deeply loved by You, and let that love empower her to forgive. We also pray for her mother, that You would bring conviction where needed, repentance and healing, and that Your will would be done in both lives. Strengthen our sister when progress feels slow and remind her that You are working even when she cannot feel it. Give her wise and godly counsel around her, and lead her in the path of wholeness and freedom that Jesus purchased for her on the cross. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and mediator, amen.

We encourage you to keep abiding in the Word, to keep praying honestly to the Lord about the pain when it rises, and to seek trusted pastoral or biblical counseling for continued healing if you have not already. God is not disappointed in your slow progress, He is pleased with your obedient heart and He will be faithful to bring you into greater freedom as you keep releasing this to Jesus day by day.

We are grateful you shared this with us. Wanting to forgive after the hurt you described takes real courage, and the daily choice to release your mother to Jesus is a faithful one.

What you are noticing makes sense. Many find there are two parts to forgiveness. One is the decision, the quiet choice to let go of getting even and to hand the person and the pain to God. That is what you are doing each day. The other is the slower softening of the heart, where resentment and fear are gradually replaced by peace and even compassion. That second part rarely happens all at once, especially when the wounds go back to childhood. It often comes in small shifts over time, not in a single moment.

So slow progress does not mean you are failing. It means God is still at work as you keep turning to Him.

It can help not to carry this alone. If you have a trusted pastor or a Christian counselor you feel safe with, consider inviting them to walk with you as you continue this daily surrender. Having one steady, wise person to talk and pray with can make the journey less heavy.

Father, we bring our friend to You in Jesus name. You see the history and the hurt and the sincere desire to forgive. Give strength for each day's choice, bring healing where there is still pain, and give wisdom and peace as You lead forward. Keep drawing this heart close to You. Amen.

Your longing to forgive is itself a token that grace is at work within you, and I thank God for it. To keep releasing your mother to Jesus day by day, choosing forgiveness even when feeling lags behind choosing, is obedience to Christ, and He sees every tear and every slow step.

You speak truly when you say progress seems slow. Healing after a deep wound is seldom sudden. Our Lord first forgives and then heals, for He knew what really ailed the palsied man, that he was palsied in spirit as well as in body, and Christ removed the root of his disease by forgiving his sin. So it is with a broken heart. The Psalm says He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds, and He does it as a tender surgeon who washes every wound with sacred water from the side of Jesus and spreads over it the ointment of forgiving grace. That binding up is often a work of many days, not of a moment.

Do not measure your forgiveness by the warmth of your feelings, but by your will yielded to Christ. You do well to bring your mother to Him each day and leave her there. He is greater at forgiving than you ever dreamed. He is a great forgiver, glorious when He pardons through the bleeding sacrifice, and it is from His fullness that you are enabled to forgive at all. Even the leaves of the tree of life are for healing, which teaches us that the least thing about Christ has healing virtue, and that His grace can change the lifeblood by degrees until the nature is made other than it was before.

Therefore continue as you have begun. Whatever He says to you, do it. Obey Him at once and exactly in this matter of mercy. When bitter thoughts return, as they will, confess them and again place the debt in His hands, for vengeance belongs to Him and mercy flows from Him. Forgiving as you have been forgiven through Christ alone does not mean calling evil good, nor does it require you to place yourself again where harm might be done, it means releasing the right to punish into the hands of Him who judges righteously.

I will pray for you as you have asked in Jesus name.

O Lord Jesus, Sun of Righteousness with healing in His wings, look upon this wounded child of Thine who desires to forgive as Thou hast forgiven. Thou knowest the sorrow of childhood and the pain of what was allowed. Pour out the riches of Thy forgiving grace upon this heart. Give power to release every debt to Thy cross, to choose mercy when memory is bitter, and to find daily healing in Thy wounds. Let Thy Spirit sweetly open the glories of Thy pardon and cause this soul to know pardon and healing are one in Thee. Keep this dear one near Thy side till wholeness comes, and make the slow work sure. Amen.

Your desire to forgive your mother even while carrying the pain of what was allowed in your childhood is a Christlike and courageous choice, and I thank you for sharing it so honestly.

Choosing to release her to Jesus each day is exactly the right path. Forgiveness in cases of deep wounding is often not a single moment but a daily decision of the will, and it is understandable that progress feels slow. The Lord sees each time you choose obedience over bitterness, and He is patient to complete the work He has begun in you.

Scripture calls us to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other even as God in Christ forgave us, and to be imitators of God as beloved children. That call is weighty because we have been forgiven so much more than we are ever asked to forgive. You have not given or forgiven God anything, yet He forgave you when you were still His enemy. He now invites you to walk in that same love, not in your own strength but in His. This does not mean pretending the abuse did not happen or saying it was not wrong. Honoring your father and mother never requires you to call evil good or to excuse sin. It means releasing the right to repay and entrusting justice and healing to God.

Let your prayers continue to be accompanied with thanksgiving, even as you pray for your mother. We are commanded to pray for others and not to pray against them, and the mouth that has received the Lord's mercy is kept pure when it asks for mercy for others as well. When painful memories rise, bring them again to Christ, ask Him to guard your heart from cursing or accusation, and ask Him to give you His compassion.

I have prayed for you and will continue to pray:

Father, thank You for this one who desires to obey You in forgiveness. Thank You for the forgiveness You have given through Jesus Christ alone, for Your mercy that covers all our sin. I ask You to comfort this wounded heart, to heal what was broken in childhood, and to give strength each day to release this mother into Your hands. Teach what it means to forgive as You have forgiven, and give grace where strength feels small. Fill this heart with Your kindness and tenderness, guard it from bitterness, and let Your peace grow where pain has lived so long. Help progress to be measured by faithfulness to You, not by feelings, and draw this dear one closer to Jesus each day. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Keep bringing this to the Lord daily. He is faithful, He is near, and He will not despise a heart that seeks to imitate Him.
