Forgiveness

We join you in bringing this confession before the Lord and we thank you for your honesty in naming this sin, for He desires truth in the inward parts and He draws near to a broken and contrite heart.

We want to speak plainly with you because pornography is not a small struggle or a harmless habit, it is sin against God and against your own body. Jesus said, Everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart Matthew 5:28. We are also told to Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you 1 Corinthians 6:19, and pornography defiles that temple, distorts the good gift of sexuality that God designed for the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and it trains the heart in lust rather than love. God calls us to let sexual immorality not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints Ephesians 5:3, and to keep the marriage bed undefiled Hebrews 13:4.

Yet we also rejoice with you because you have come to the right place for mercy. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. We notice you said Lord but you did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and forgiveness. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, His death for our sins and His resurrection, that we are forgiven and made new. If you have not already, we encourage you to call upon His name and trust Him as your Savior and Lord.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who has confessed the sin of pornography. Lord, we thank You that You are merciful and ready to forgive. Wash this heart clean by the blood of Jesus, and create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me Psalm 51:10. We ask that You heal the wounds this sin has left on mind, conscience, and body, and break its power. Help our brother or sister to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5 and to be transformed by the renewing of the mind Romans 12:2. Teach us to make a covenant with our eyes Job 31:1 and to guard our hearts, for You have promised, No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. Show the way of escape clearly and give strength to take it. Empower us by Your Holy Spirit to flee temptation, to walk in purity, and to hunger for Your Word, for How can a young man keep his way pure. By living according to your word Psalm 119:9 and Your word have we hidden within our heart, that we may not sin against you Psalm 119:11. We ask for godly sorrow that leads to repentance, for accountability with a mature believer as You call us to Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed James 5:16, and for practical wisdom to remove access, to install guards, to avoid isolation and idleness, and to fill this life with what is pure and good. Restore joy and a clear conscience, and let this life bear fruit in holiness. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to walk this out daily with the Lord. Bring this confession into the light with a trusted pastor or mature Christian of the same sex for ongoing accountability, remove every source and access point without hesitation, for Jesus taught if your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out Matthew 5:29, meaning take radical action against sin. Fill your mind daily with Scripture, worship, and prayer, and stay in fellowship where you can be strengthened. When temptation comes, flee immediately, pray aloud, call a brother or sister, and remember that God sees your obedience and will honor it. We are praying that God will heal you completely and establish you in freedom and purity for His glory.

Thank you for praying so honestly. It takes courage to name this struggle plainly before the Lord, and we want you to know we are standing with you in it.

Wanting both forgiveness and healing is a good and right desire. Many who walk this road find that the pull toward pornography is not just about the images themselves but about trying to quiet loneliness, stress, shame or other painful feelings for a little while. Recognizing those moments when the urge is strongest can be an important part of finding freedom, and that kind of clarity often grows best with another person walking alongside you.

One practical step that has helped many is to bring one safe, mature believer into the light with you on an ongoing basis, whether a pastor, a Christian counselor, or a small confidential support group built on accountability. You do not have to sort this out alone, and having someone to check in with honestly each week can make it much harder for old patterns to stay hidden.

We are grateful for your willingness to turn toward God with this. He sees your heart to be clean and whole, and healing is often a process of small faithful choices over time as you keep surrendering this area to Christ.

Father, thank You for this honest heart before You. We ask for Your forgiveness and Your cleansing through Jesus, and for Your gentle healing in the places that have felt driven to this sin. Give daily strength to turn away, wisdom to see triggers early, and trusted people to walk closely in accountability and grace. Lead step by step toward lasting purity and peace. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your cry is evidence that His grace has already begun to work in your soul. You tremble and shake for fear, and with a penitent heart you desire forgiveness, and to such a heart the Lord says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake.

Do not let despair keep you at a distance. Suppose the question had been left open, forgiveness or no forgiveness, where could we find it. But it is not left open. The Word declares with certainty, there is forgiveness with Thee. It is a divine forgiveness, not from man, but from God Himself, and it is a surprising forgiveness, so surprising that the Lord says, I, even I, as if to assure the most burdened conscience that even such sins as yours may be remitted. Where God draws no limit, do not you draw any. However sinful your life may have been up until now, there is forgiveness even for you, and it is to be had now, at this moment, through Jesus Christ His Son.

Do as Martin Luther did when a brother monk said to him, Do you not say, I believe in the forgiveness of sins, now believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself. This sentence contains no conditions for the repenting and believing sinner. The tally is destroyed, the record of your debt is nailed to the Cross. When Jesus died, the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God, He made full provision, and He not only forgave at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive. What He gives is an absolute, irreversible, eternal forgiveness, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He never plays fast and loose with men.

And with this forgiveness there comes healing, for healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. You pray, heal me of this sin, and the Scripture answers, the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing. When the palsied man lay in the presence of Jesus hoping and expecting forgiveness and healing, the Lord said first, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee, and then He bade him rise and walk. Pardon and healing were one, and the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings. The inhabitant shall not say, I am sick, when the Lord dwells with him, for He changes the life blood and makes the nature other than it was before.

Yet hear also what the Word says of purity, for charity and purity are the two great garments of Christianity. Without holiness no man shall see the Lord, and charity without purity will be of no use. The blessed purity of our holy faith is conspicuous in its precepts and in the character of the God whom it reveals. He calls you to be kept unspotted from the world, to walk in separation from that which defiles. This sin of pornography is impurity outside the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, where alone the Lord has placed the gift of sex and living together. It must not be excused or cherished, but confessed and forsaken, and the Lord who forgives will also give power to forsake it.

Therefore come now with acknowledgment of your indebtedness, feeling you can never discharge it, and put your trust in Christ. He promises oblivion to all your debt, forgiveness of the whole. Ask Him not to bless the sin, but to blot it out, to cleanse your heart, to set your feet in the way of holiness, and to keep you by His Spirit. He will do it, for there is forgiveness with Him, that He may be feared, and there is healing in His wings for all who look to Him.
