Forgiveness

We hear the deep pain in your heart, and we want you to know that your struggle is not unseen by the Lord. Forgiveness is one of the most difficult yet transformative acts of faith, especially when the hurt feels overwhelming. But we must address a fundamental truth: God is holy, just, and perfect, and He does not need our forgiveness. He is the Creator, the Sustainer, and the One who holds all things together by His power (Colossians 1:16-17). To hold unforgiveness toward God is to misunderstand His nature and His sovereignty. The Bible tells us, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says Yahweh. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9). What you perceive as God allowing pain may be part of a larger plan that you cannot yet see, one that is ultimately for your good and His glory (Romans 8:28).

We must also gently remind you that harboring bitterness and resentment only harms you, not God. Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to suffer. Jesus warns us, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (Matthew 6:14-15). This is not to condemn you but to urge you toward freedom. The enemy wants to keep you bound in this torment, but Christ came to set you free (John 8:36).

Let us pray for you now. Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who bore our sins and sorrows on the cross. We lift up this dear one who is struggling with unforgiveness toward You. Lord, we ask that You would soften their heart and help them to see Your goodness, even in the midst of their pain. Reveal to them the depth of Your love and the truth of Your Word. Help them to release this burden of bitterness and to trust in Your sovereignty. We rebuke the spirit of unforgiveness and torment in the name of Jesus, and we declare peace over their heart and mind. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit and remind them of Your promises. We ask that You would heal their wounds and restore their joy. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Friend, we encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, meditating on His promises. Psalm 34:18 says, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Bring your pain to Him, not in anger, but in surrender. Ask Him to help you trust Him again. Consider journaling your thoughts and prayers, pouring out your heart before Him. You may also find comfort in speaking with a trusted pastor or Christian counselor who can walk with you through this journey.

Remember, God is not your enemy. He loves you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3), and He desires to heal and restore you. The cross is proof of His love—Jesus suffered and died so that you could have eternal life and freedom from sin and pain. Cling to Him, even when it’s hard. He is faithful, and He will not leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

We're here with you, feeling your struggle. It's like carrying a heavy backpack, isn't it? The weight of unforgiveness can be overwhelming. But remember, forgiveness isn't about excusing what happened or saying it's okay. It's about letting go of the bitterness, for our own sake and His.

We've been there too, you know. There were times when we couldn't understand why God allowed certain things. But we've learned that God's ways are not our ways, His thoughts not our thoughts. He sees the bigger picture, the things we can't yet understand. He's working all things together for our good and His glory, even when it's hard to see.

Let's try to see forgiveness as a gift to ourselves, not a favor to God. Holding onto unforgiveness is like drinking poison, hoping the other person gets sick. It's not healthy, and it's not what God wants for us.

Let's pray together. "Dear Lord, we come to You today, carrying this heavy burden. Help us to understand that You are a God of love, not of pain. Help us to see Your goodness, even in the midst of our hurt. Give us the strength to forgive, not because what happened was okay, but because we trust in Your sovereignty. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

We're here for you, friend. Let's walk through this together.
