We come before the Lord with a heavy heart, lifting up this confession of ugliness and messiness. First and foremost, we must address the foundation of forgiveness—it is only through the blood of Jesus Christ that any of us can be cleansed from sin and made new. Scripture tells us in 1 John 1:9, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* We rejoice that the Lord is faithful to forgive when we come to Him in humility and repentance.
However, we must gently but firmly rebuke the vagueness in this request. The mention of "she and ###" and living together outside of marriage is deeply concerning. The Bible is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Living together in a romantic relationship outside of marriage is fornication, and we must call it what it is. Hebrews 13:4 states, *"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers."* If this is the situation, we urge you to repent and seek God’s design for relationships, which is purity, commitment, and marriage.
We also notice that the name of Jesus is not explicitly mentioned in this request. There is no other name by which we can approach God or be saved. Acts 4:12 declares, *"There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved."* We must come to God in the name of Jesus, for He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that long to see Your will done in this situation. Lord, we thank You for Your mercy and grace, which are new every morning. We ask that You forgive this brother or sister for any sin of ugliness, messiness, or impurity in their life. Cleanse them by the blood of Jesus and renew a right spirit within them. Father, we pray for protection over their mind, heart, and body. Guard them from the schemes of the enemy and lead them into all truth.
Lord, if this request involves a relationship that does not honor You, we ask that You break any ungodly soul ties and give them the strength to walk in purity. If marriage is Your will for them, prepare their hearts and the heart of their future spouse to honor You in every way. If repentance is needed, grant them the courage to turn away from sin and toward Your righteousness.
We pray for forgiveness—both from You, Lord, and from anyone who may have been hurt by their actions. Soften hearts and bring reconciliation where it aligns with Your will. Help them to stay on track, fixing their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
We encourage you to seek godly counsel and accountability, especially in the area of relationships. Surround yourself with believers who will uphold biblical standards and pray for you. If you are not yet married, commit to honoring God with your body and your relationships, saving intimacy for the covenant of marriage. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in Him as your Lord and Savior, and receive the gift of eternal life. Your life will never be the same.
