Forgive us for the times we have stubbornly gone our own way instead of trusting You. Soften our heart, LORD God

Servant of All
Bread of Heaven/Word of Life/ Jesus is the word of God

2 Kings 24:20 :
It was because of the LORD’s anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from his presence. Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

Our prayer:
"Heavenly Lord God, when we read of the rebellion and judgment in 2 Kings 24:20, it reminds us of how seriously You take sin and disobedience. Forgive us for the times we have stubbornly gone our own way instead of trusting You. Soften our heart, LORD. Give us a quick spirit to confess our wrongs, turn away from pride, and walk closely in obedience to Your Word. Keep us in Your grace and presence. In Jesus' name, Amen."

We join you in this humble confession and prayer, recognizing the weight of our own stubbornness and the seriousness with which the Lord views sin. The rebellion of Zedekiah and the judgment that fell upon Jerusalem and Judah serve as a sobering reminder that our disobedience grieves the heart of God and separates us from His presence. Yet, we are grateful that through the blood of Jesus Christ, we have access to the throne of grace, where we may find mercy and help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

The Lord does not delight in the punishment of His people but desires that we turn from our wicked ways so that He may heal and restore us (Ezekiel 18:32). When we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Let us not harden our hearts as the Israelites did in the wilderness, but let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith (Hebrews 3:7-8, 10:22).

We pray with you now, asking the Lord to soften our hearts and give us a spirit of humility and repentance. May we be quick to confess our wrongs and turn away from pride, which so easily entangles us. Help us to walk closely in obedience to Your Word, delighting in Your commands and meditating on them day and night (Psalm 1:2). Keep us in Your grace and presence, Lord, for apart from You, we can do nothing (John 15:5).

Father, we also pray for those who may be reading this prayer and have not yet surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. Open their eyes to see their need for a Savior, and soften their hearts to receive the truth of Your Word. May they come to know the love and forgiveness that is found only in Jesus, the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life (John 6:35, 1:1). It is through His name and by His blood that we have access to You, and there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

Lord, we thank You for Your patience and longsuffering toward us. Help us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which we have been called, with all humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another in love (Ephesians 4:1-2). May our lives be a reflection of Your grace and truth, drawing others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. In His precious name, we pray. Amen.

We hear you, and we’re moved by the honest ache in your words. Naming that stubborn pull to go our own way takes real humility, and the fact that you’re asking God to soften your heart tells us the Spirit is already at work in you. This isn’t the prayer of someone coasting; it’s the cry of someone who wants to come home.

One thing that helps many of us when we feel caught in the cycle of going astray and then confessing is to remember that true repentance is less about feeling bad enough and more about reorienting the heart. That kind of turning isn’t always instant, it can be a slow, steady training of the soul. So be gentle with yourself if you don’t feel completely changed overnight. The longing to be close to God, to walk in obedience rather than pride, is itself evidence of His grace keeping you near.

A practical step that often helps when the pull to our own way feels strong is to build a small habit of immediate, honest confession, not later when guilt piles up, but quickly, in the moment. A short, simple admission: Lord, I see what I’m doing, and I need You to reorder my loves right now. Over time, that practice trains us to spot pride or rebellion early and turn back before the distance grows wide. It’s not about perfection; it’s about staying in the conversation with Him.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come with this dear one who knows the grief of a stubborn heart. Thank You that You never turn away a contrite spirit. Soften what is hard, and untwist what is tangled. Grant the gift of a quick and honest spirit, one that runs toward Your light the moment shadows gather. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

It is well that you are troubled over the stubbornness of your heart, for such a cry after tenderness is itself a sign that the Spirit of God is dealing with you. Yet you must not suppose that your own prayers or efforts can soften what is hard. It is written, "I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh." This is God's work, from first to last. Do not attempt, first, to renew your heart, and then to come to Christ for salvation, for this renewal of heart is salvation. The moment you look away from yourself to the crucified Saviour, that look begins the melting. There is no saving repentance except within sight of the Cross. That repentance of sin which omits Christ is a repentance which will have to be repented of.

Beware of a repentance that springs alone from terror of judgment, such as might rise in a night and wither in a night. Unmingled with faith, it kills but never blesses. True repentance, that which is the work of the Spirit of God, gives God glory. It does not merely dread the penalty, but it loathes the sin itself because it has wounded Christ. When the Holy Spirit puts the Cross into the heart, the heart is dissolved in tenderness. Crux in corde, the Cross in the heart, this is the source of godly sorrow. The hardness of the heart dies when we see Jesus die in woe so great.

So let your cry be, "Lord, I repent, but give me a better repentance. I believe, help Thou mine unbelief." Look to Him whom you have pierced by your sin, and as you see that bleeding love, you will feel an evangelical hatred of all that grieves Him. This is a repentance that leads to life, and it will prove itself by a sincere and exact obedience. For the great practical end of the Gospel is to bring the human heart into obedience to Christ. The path of obedience is the middle path; turn not from it to the right hand or to the left. Let your obedience be wholehearted and scrupulous, not in your own strength, but drawn by the cords of a Saviour's love. And when you walk in this way, even in the midst of your service, Jesus will meet you, as He met the women who ran with His word, rewarding your trembling steps with His own blessed presence. Go forward, then, trusting not in a softness of heart that you can manufacture, but in the blood that cleanses, the wounds that heal, and the Spirit who alone can create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

How many times have you asked God to soften your heart, and then continued in the very stubbornness you confess? When you read of Zedekiah's rebellion and the Lord's anger, you tremble rightly, but let this fear not remain a mere prayer. It must become a true change.

God in his longsuffering delays punishment precisely to lead you to repentance. If he exacted justice day by day, not one of us would survive to twenty years. But do not mistake his patience for approval. A stubborn heart that keeps asking for softening yet returns to its own way only stores up wrath. The frost of sin is not melted by repeating words, but by the warm beams of the Sun of Righteousness. Invoke him, yes, but then open your soul to his heat by a genuine turning.

What is this medicine of repentance? First, become your own accuser. Declare your sins plainly, without hiding, and condemn yourself for them. Mere tears and emotional prayers are not enough. Esau cried bitterly, yet found no place of repentance because his sorrow was not godly. Godly sorrow works a change that brings no regret later. It leads to obedience, like the fishermen who left everything immediately when Christ called. No procrastination, no excuses.

You have now a softened moment, a warmth from hearing the Scripture. Use it. Bring to mind your specific acts of stubbornness and pride. Let the delay of punishment be your comfort, not as an assurance that all is well, but as a window to amend your life. Manasseh filled Jerusalem with abominations and murder, yet through repentance he washed away all that filth. Will you not do the same for your own lesser debts? The spiritual bath of the Church wipes away stains of soul for those who truly repent.

So do not merely ask for a softened heart. In this very hour, dissolve the ice. Confess, turn from the sin you cling to, and walk in swift obedience. Then you will find that the grace for which you pray has already begun its work.

Your prayer reveals a heart that is rightly troubled by what you read in 2 Kings 24. The judgment came after persistent, stubborn rebellion, Zedekiah hardening himself against the Lord’s clear word, and the people following suit. The Lord’s anger thrust them from His presence, and that is a sobering warning for every one of us. We cannot treat sin lightly or imagine that we can go our own way without consequence.

What you long for, a softened heart, a quick spirit to confess, is exactly what God wants from you. Yet we must be careful that this is not merely a surface turning, a faint revival that never reaches the depths. God sees the heart, and He knows when it remains divided, still lusting after the world while offering a prayer for forgiveness. Like Judah, we can say the right words while our hearts are far from Him. So let your cry be for a whole heart, not a half heart. Ask Him to cut away the fleshly resistance, the pride that clings to its own path. The true circumcision is of the heart, not outward performance.

When you come to Him with that broken and contrite spirit, you will find His forgiveness is nothing like our own. We forgive tentatively, often leaving the handle of the hatchet sticking out so we can retrieve the offense later. God buries it entirely. He justifies. He cleanses. Whatever you have done in your stubbornness, whatever damage or disobedience, there is full pardon in Jesus Christ. The only thing that keeps you from it is refusing to come and ask. So come honestly, and let His forgiveness lift the guilt from your conscience.

The prayer you offered also speaks of walking closely in obedience. That obedience must spring from a heart that delights in His commandments, not just mental agreement. God’s Word must be in your heart, the seat of your will, not merely in your head as an ideal. That can be a difficult lesson, especially when suffering has come from your own wrong turns. Yet even our Lord learned obedience through the things He suffered. God can use the painful consequences of straying to teach you to lean on His Word and trust Him instead of your own understanding. Do not despise that tool.

Be on guard, too, against the subtle self, deception that blesses itself in a rebellious heart. It is a terrifying thing when a person hears God’s Word and then in his heart contradicts it, thinking, “I’ll have peace, even though I walk in the imagination of my own heart.” That is what hardens a heart permanently. Pharaoh hardened his own heart again and again, and then the Lord finally stiffened him in that posture. Do not toy with disobedience. Today, while you feel the stirring of conviction, respond.

The very desire you have for a soft heart is not something you generated on your own. God places those yearnings in us, working in us both to will and to do His good pleasure. The prayer you prayed is evidence of His hand drawing you. So do not ignore it. Let Him search you thoroughly, as David did, and expose any crooked motivation. Then pursue Him with your whole heart. Incline your heart to His testimonies, not to covetousness or self, will. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the issues of life.

Lay hold of the new covenant: it does not rest on your perfect obedience, but on Christ’s finished work. And because He has fully satisfied the Father, you are secure when your trust is in Him. Yet the response of a grateful heart is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. That is not a burden; it is the path to true freedom. So go forward with gladness, not dreary obligation. Whatever you do for God, do it joyfully, and He receives it.

Your prayer for forgiveness and a softened heart is heard. Come to Jesus. Receive His complete cleansing. Walk in His commands, not to earn His love, but because He has already given it. And know that He is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you.

We are deeply grateful for the privilege of standing with you in prayer as you sought the Lord’s forgiveness and a softened heart. It is a sacred honor to intercede on behalf of those who humbly come before God, acknowledging their need for His mercy and grace. Your prayer, rooted in the truth of Scripture, reminds us all of the seriousness with which God views sin—and the beauty of His willingness to restore those who turn to Him in repentance.

As we reflect on 2 Kings 24:20, we are reminded of the consequences of rebellion, but also of the hope found in God’s faithfulness to those who seek Him. If the Lord has answered your prayer—if you’ve experienced His forgiveness, a tender heart, or a renewed desire to walk in obedience—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony could encourage others who are struggling in similar ways.

If, however, you feel that your request has not yet been fully answered, we invite you to post it again. We are committed to continuing in prayer with you, lifting you before the throne of grace as you seek the Lord’s transforming work in your life. May He draw near to you, grant you a spirit of humility, and lead you ever closer to His perfect will.

May the Lord bless you abundantly as you press into Him, trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ. We pray that His Word would take deep root in your heart, producing fruit in keeping with repentance and a life that honors Him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
