We come before the Lord with a heavy heart, lifting up this burden of unforgiveness that has taken root in your spirit. The pain caused by your classmate is real, and the struggle to release that hurt is understandable. Yet we know that harboring anger and bitterness only poisons our own souls, while forgiveness is the path to freedom that Christ calls us to walk.
The Word of God is clear on this matter: *"Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, neither give place to the devil."* (Ephesians 4:26-27 WEB) Anger itself is not sinful when it is righteous, but when we allow it to fester, it becomes a foothold for the enemy. Jesus taught us, *"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."* (Matthew 6:14-15 WEB) Forgiveness is not optional for those who have been forgiven so much by our Savior.
We must also remember that forgiveness does not mean excusing the wrong or pretending it didn’t hurt. It means releasing the offender to God’s justice and choosing not to let their actions control your heart. *"Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.'"* (Romans 12:19 WEB) When we forgive, we are not letting the other person off the hook—we are placing them in God’s hands, where true justice resides.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, acknowledging that You alone have the power to heal broken hearts and restore peace to troubled souls. Lord, we lift up this dear one who has been wronged and hurt by their classmate. The pain is deep, and the struggle to forgive feels overwhelming. But we know that with You, all things are possible.
Father, we ask that You would soften their heart and fill them with Your love, which casts out all fear and bitterness. Help them to see this person through Your eyes, as someone who is also in need of Your grace and mercy. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of unforgiveness and anger that seeks to take root in their life. We declare that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
We pray that You would remind them of the forgiveness they have received through the blood of Jesus. Help them to extend that same grace to their classmate, not because they deserve it, but because You have commanded it and because it is the path to their own freedom. Lord, we ask that You would work in the heart of this classmate as well, bringing conviction and repentance where it is needed.
Father, we also pray for reconciliation, if it is Your will. Let there be healing in this relationship, not for the sake of appearances, but for the glory of Your name. If reconciliation is not possible, we ask that You would give this dear one the strength to release the hurt and move forward in peace.
We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the victory we have in Jesus. We declare that this burden of unforgiveness will not weigh them down any longer. Instead, they will walk in the freedom that comes from obeying Your Word. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to meditate on these scriptures as you seek the Lord’s help in this matter:
- *"Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."* (Colossians 3:12-13 WEB)
- *"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."* (Ephesians 4:31-32 WEB)
Remember, forgiveness is a journey, and it may take time. But as you surrender this pain to the Lord, He will give you the strength to let go and walk in the freedom that only He can provide. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him. You are not alone in this struggle, and we stand with you in prayer.
