Do Not Sin Against the Child
A Warning Against Hardness of Heart
The Burning Books
We thank you for sharing this faithful and timely word about salvation and we rejoice with you as you point others to Jesus Christ. We agree that this is the most important message anyone can hear and respond to.

You have quoted Romans 10:9-10 which says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. We are thankful you included the call to confess and turn from sins and to follow and obey Jesus, for true faith is not mere words but a changed heart and life.

The Scripture teaches that all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God in Romans 3:23 and that the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord in Romans 6:23. We cannot save ourselves by good works, for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast in Ephesians 2:8-9. Salvation comes only through Jesus, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12.

Therefore to be saved we must repent, which means to turn away from our sins and turn to God, and put our full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for our sins and that God raised Him from the dead. As it is written Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out in Acts 3:19. When we do this we are made new, for if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new in 2 Corinthians 5:17. Following and obeying Jesus is then the lifelong walk of a disciple, abiding in His Word and growing in grace.

We appreciate your encouragement to read and study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, starting in the book of John. That is wise counsel, for John so clearly presents Jesus as the Son of God that we may believe. We would also encourage those who are seeking to pray and ask God for understanding as they read, and to find a Bible believing church where the Word is faithfully taught and where they can be baptized and discipled.

We join together and pray for every heart that is seeking salvation right now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for Your great love and mercy in sending Your Son to die on the cross for our sins and to rise again. We lift up every person who is reading this and is searching for salvation. Lord, open their eyes to see their need for You, grant them godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and give them faith to believe in their heart that You raised Jesus from the dead and to confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord. Forgive their sins, wash them clean by the blood of Jesus, and make them new creations. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit and give them hunger for Your Word, especially as they read the Gospel of John, and help them to follow and obey Jesus all the days of their lives. Lead them to fellowship with other believers who will encourage them in the truth. We ask this in the saving and precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

We appreciate you taking time to write and to point others toward Jesus. It is clear you care deeply that people know how to be saved and where to begin in the Bible, and that desire to see others come to know Him matters.

Starting in John as you mentioned is such a helpful place for someone exploring faith for the first time. It gives a clear picture of who Jesus is and what He has done, and reading a little each day with prayer for understanding can make it more personal than trying to take in too much at once.

We are encouraged by your willingness to share this with our community. If you feel led to keep sharing, one simple way is to walk alongside one person at a time, reading through John together and being available to talk and pray as questions come up. Staying connected to a local church family while you do that also gives both you and new believers support and accountability as you grow.

Father, we thank You for Your gift of salvation through Jesus. We ask You to work in the hearts of those who are seeking You now, draw them to Yourself, and give them faith to trust Christ. Strengthen our brother who shared this message and guide them as they point others to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a faithful and precious word you have set before us, and we do rejoice to hear it proclaimed, for with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The scripture you have quoted is the very order of grace. There is a due order for faith and confession and a clear connection between them. Faith comes first in the heart, wrought there by the Spirit of God, and confession follows with the mouth. That which we privately and personally rest upon for salvation, we are to publicly and emphatically avow before others as the ground of our confidence. The result of the two put together is salvation, not by our confession alone, nor by a mere assent of the mind, but by a living faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who was raised from the dead.

And with that faith there must be repentance, for the two are inseparable. No repentance is true but that which consorts with faith, and no faith is true but that which is linked with a hearty and sincere repentance on account of past sin. They come into the soul together, like Siamese twins, and they live as long as faith lives. Repentance is not a thing to be gotten through at the beginning and then forgotten, nor is it a preparation we offer to make ourselves worthy. We are to preach repentance in the name of Jesus, as the gift of God. It is the work of the Holy Spirit in the renewed heart. We rest not upon our faith, nor upon our repentance, nor upon our prayers, but upon Jesus Christ crucified, who is all our salvation, the Author and Finisher of faith.

Take heed that it be a true repentance which gives God glory. There is a carnal repentance that is of the flesh, a regret that fears judgment but does not forsake sin. True repentance, the repentance unto life, turns from sin because it sees sin as an evil thing for which Christ was nailed to the cross, and it turns unto Christ with hope in His great finished work. You need not expect a perfect measure before you may come. There are degrees of faith, and yet the least faith saves if it is sincere and lays hold of Christ. So there are degrees of repentance, and the least repentance will save the soul if it is sincere. It is not a condition of salvation in the sense of a price we pay, for there are no conditions of salvation in that sense. It is a grace which God gives, and the germ which contains all the essentials of salvation.

Therefore let every soul that is seeking the Lord this day come just as you are, confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believing in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead. Let your confession be personal. His faith must be his own faith, his repentance must be repentance of his own sin, his coming to Christ must be his own coming. Do say and say it unmistakably, I am the Lord's. And do not dissociate the word of confession from the action, for a life that follows and obeys Jesus is the best confession of your faith.

We will pray for all who are looking unto Jesus now, that the Spirit of God will work this faith and this repentance in you, and that you will continue to look to Christ alone. Your counsel to read and study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and to begin in the book of John, is wise. There you will see the Lord Jesus set forth, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life through His name. Sincere faith will treat all His Word alike, and will learn to roll every burden upon the Lord in prayer day by day.

May the Lord grant you to believe with the heart and to confess with the mouth, and to walk in that repentance which needs not to be repented of, till faith turns to sight.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
