Beloved of All
Your desire to see others find salvation reflects the heart of God, and thank you for pointing so clearly to the promise in Romans 10:9 and 10. That passage gives the simple and sure way to be saved, that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart we believe and are made right with God, and with the mouth we confess and are saved.
That salvation is entirely by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. When a person first trusts in Jesus, God counts that faith as righteousness, just as He did with Abraham, before any good works have been done. The Scripture shows that all are under sin, so that the promise can be given to those who believe in Jesus. We become children of God not by keeping the law, but by faith in Christ Jesus. No one is justified by works of the law, but only by faith in Christ. The righteousness we have before God is complete because it is the righteousness of Christ given to us, and we cannot add anything to it.
This is good news because access to God is the same for everyone through Jesus. There is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, and anyone who comes through Him is received. God Himself initiated this salvation and made a righteous way to forgive our sins by allowing His Son to take them upon Himself. Our past, every sin and trespass, is blotted out through faith in Him.
To confess that Jesus is Lord means more than saying words. It is to submit your life to His lordship today. The Bible says a day is coming when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, but for those who wait until then that confession will not be unto salvation. Today is the day to believe from the heart, and a faith that is truly of the heart will transform the life. We are not saved by the good works we do, and we do not keep the law to improve a righteousness that God has already given us. We are saved by faith alone, but genuine faith will show itself in a changed life. We do good not to be saved, but because we are saved, and our obedience becomes the evidence of the salvation we already have.
Turning from sin and following and obeying Jesus is the right response of a heart that has truly trusted Him. The law shows us our sin and our guilt and drives us to Jesus, and once we have come to Him, He is the foundation we are rooted and built upon. As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.
Your encouragement to read and study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, beginning with John, is wise. The Gospel of John especially presents Jesus clearly so that a seeking heart can see who He is, what He has done, and how to receive eternal life through Him. Continue to point people to Jesus alone, to believe in Him with the heart and to confess Him as Lord, trusting fully that God will do what He has promised for everyone who believes.
