No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

Lord, open their eyes to see their need for a Savior, grant them godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and give them faith to believe in their heart that You raised Jesus from the dead and to confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord. How rejoicing it is to hear the great promise of the gospel so plainly set forth, that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth that Jesus is Lord, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

This is indeed the plain gospel of salvation by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus. Salvation is of the Lord in the planning, in the execution, and in the application. No one hath helped to provide it, God hath done it all himself, and he must make the unwilling willing and bring the rebel to the feet of Jesus, or salvation will never be accomplished. We rest not upon our faith, our prayers, or our conquests of sin, but upon Jesus Christ crucified, who is all our salvation, the Alpha and the Omega, the Author and the Finisher of faith.

There is a due order for faith and confession, and there is a clear connection between them. The text saith not merely believe him, but trust him. Our faith fixes herself upon the person of the Lord Jesus as seen in his sufferings, his offices and his achievements. With the heart we believe and are justified, and with the mouth we confess and are saved. I do not doubt that a man who truly believes in Jesus is saved even before he makes confession, but the blessing is constantly connected with these two together, and we must not put asunder what God hath joined. Above all things let confession be sincere, with no hypocrisy, for in proportion as faith grows, reverence grows. How sweetly doth Jesus our Lord sound to the believing soul.

You have spoken rightly that we must also confess and turn from our sins, and follow and obey him. Faith and fear together bring forth good fruit, and obedience is the gracious fruit thereof. When the Lord graciously works in the heart, that heart is moved to do as God hath commanded, to prove grace by careful obedience. To believe on the Lord Jesus is the one business of life, and to follow him is the evidence that faith is living and true.

Your counsel to read and study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and to begin in the book of John, is wise. There you shall see Jesus, the Man of Sorrows and yet our Lord, set forth in his incarnation, life, death and resurrection, upon which our salvation hinges. He who believes these truths aright hath believed the gospel and shall find eternal salvation.

May the Lord in mercy look upon all who are now seeking salvation. May his Spirit work faith in their hearts to trust Jesus alone, to confess him openly as Lord, to turn from sin and to walk in his ways. This short word carries not only salvation but also righteousness, and it does not require a long circuit of works. Even this faith is a gift of grace, for we did not first draw near on our own but were called by God, and we are sanctified and purified through Christ alone.

We pray for everyone who is searching today, that God would open their hearts to hear His call, to truly believe in the risen Lord Jesus, to confess Him openly, and to turn from sin to follow and obey Him. May they call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and receive forgiveness and new life. It is good to see your heart for those who are seeking salvation and your desire to point them to what Scripture clearly says. Romans 10:9 and 10 gives the simple and sure promise that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart we believe and are made right with God, and with the mouth we confess and are saved.

The Bible makes it clear that this salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It is not by our own works or by keeping the law, and nothing needs to be added to simple faith in Christ. Just as Abraham believed God and God counted his faith as righteousness, so God counts our faith in Christ for righteousness. We receive forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit by hearing and believing, not by earning it. It is a gift that we could never deserve.

At the same time, the faith that truly saves is a living faith that changes the life. We are not saved by the good we do, but genuine faith will show itself in what we do. If we truly believe in Jesus, that belief will lead to turning from sin and following Him in obedience. It is not that our works make our faith complete in order to earn salvation, but that our works demonstrate that our faith is real. As John the Baptist taught, true repentance bears fruit that can be seen. To say we have faith without any evidence of a changed life is to have a faith that is dead and cannot save. God looks at the heart of faith, and that faith will naturally produce love, obedience, and the fruit of the Spirit.

You are right to encourage people not only to believe but to confess and turn from their sins and to follow and obey Jesus. That turning is the response of a heart that has truly trusted Him.
