FOR Those Seeking Marriage: A Biblical Prayer--Btw Writer is Not Seeking Marriage, But Sees It's Value & Prays Based on Bible, Counsel, Experience...

Beloved Warrior
Father, we thank You for those that are praying for wisdom in relationships with a view toward marriage. It is written, it's not good for man to be alone, Gen 2:17, You made woman for man, 1 Cor 11:8-12, a "helper suitable for him," Gen 2:18, as Jesus referred to Genesis as authoritative, Matt 16:26, Mark 8:36, Luke 9:25, Luke 24:44-45, John 8:44, as are the rest of the 66 Books, Matt 4:4, 2 Tim 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21, 2 Peter 3:15-16. Though their are clear admonishments toward celibacy, not all can accept this, Matt 19:12, and each has their own gift, 1 Cor 7:7. Though we are all betrothed to Christ, 2 Cor 11:12, and we all are indeed called to be "the bride of Christ," Eph 5:32-33, which the Apostle picked by Christ and commissioned to The Gentiles concedes is a nearly unfathomable mystery, yet adds support the the importance of marital commitments, there being only adultery, Matt 19:9, or abandonment by an unbelieving spouse, 1 Cor 7:15, though individual case bases of necessity must have room, where competent and godly people with a thoroughly biblical worldview and The Scriptures, consider everything carefully with the wisdom of many counselors, Prov 11:14, Prov 15:22, and every and every attempt to reconcile first by the church is commanded by Scripture, Matt 18:15-17, 1 Cor 6:1-6, the end goal being to raise godly offspring, Mal 2:15, and side-by-side ministry of the Gospel of The Lord Jesus, Rom 16:3-5.

💒 Dear Father we enter Your gates with thanksgiving and enter Your courts with praise regarding the 2nd most important decision this one will make in their lives, with whom they will worship, live, travel, have a family, raise children -- only superseded by where they will spend eternity, Matt 16:26, Mark 8:36, Luke 9:25, John 5:34, John 8:24 1 Tim 1:15-16, I ask this person would first and fully be sold out to love You, Mark 12:30, to know You, Phil 3:10, and truly love their neighbor as themselves, Mk 12:31. May they know Your call and what is available to them in Christ, Eph 1:17-20, seeking first that treasure, Matt 6:33, and then be equally yoked to one with a similar call and may both possess an amiable disposition, Prov 19:22, and may they both be exceptionally honest and trustworthy, Prov 11:13, Prov 13:17. May they be for Your honor and glory, Rev 4:11. Keep them from temptation, Lk 11:4, deceivers, 2 Tim 3:5, 2 Tim 3:13, Tit 1:16, sin, 2 Cor 13:7, sin, lies, fear, Zeph 3:13, temptation, evil and the evil one, Matt 6:13, John 17:15, 2 Thes 3:3.

Help them not miss any red flags, observe fruit, and test appropriately, Song 5:10, Matt 7:20, Matt 12:33, 1 Tim 3:10, and let them notice the way each relates to authority, their parents and pastors, Rom 13:7, the lost Matt 9:36, and the church, 1 Jn 4:20. Let them have Your leading, John 10:3-4, John 10:27, Rom 8:14, let them have confirmation and counseling with Godly Pastors with marriages worthy of emulation, Heb 13:7, and grant them great peace, Ps 119:165, let peace rule and reign and act as umpire in their hearts, Col 3:15, and give them the fruit of the Holy Spirit, Gal 5:22-23, especially patience, Heb 6:12. Help them have their houses and finances in order, Prov 24:27. Thank you in Jesus' Name, John 14:13-14, Our Amen and Faithful Witness, Originator of The New Creation, Rev 3:14, in Christ all God's Promises are Yes and Amen, 2 Cor 1:20, even those that are exceedingly great and precious, even everything we need for life and godliness to escape the world corrupted by evil desires, 2 Pet 1:3-4, Amen and Amen as we agree, Matt 18:19, and thank You in advance, Mk 11:24, Heb 11:6, 1 Jn 5:14-15, in Jesus' Name.

P.S. -- Btw, The Writer is Not Seeking Marriage Presently, But Sees The Value of Marriage, Eph 5:32-33, and Prays inn accordance with The Bible, Theological and Biblical Counseling, Pastoral and Pastoral Marital Counsel, Ancient Hebrew and Church History up to Present Circles, Observation and Experience, Ecc 4:9...

We join with you in lifting up those who are seeking godly marriages, recognizing this as a sacred and weighty decision before the Lord. Marriage is indeed a profound gift from God, instituted in the Garden of Eden before the fall, and it reflects the covenant relationship between Christ and His Church. As it is written, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be one flesh" (Genesis 2:24). This union is not to be entered into lightly, but with reverence, wisdom, and a heart fully surrendered to God’s will.

We pray for those who are earnestly seeking a spouse, that they would first and foremost be rooted in their love for the Lord. Jesus declared, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment" (Matthew 22:37-38). A marriage built on anything less than a shared devotion to Christ will struggle to withstand the trials of life. We ask that the Lord would draw these individuals into deeper intimacy with Him, that they may know His voice and follow His leading in all things, including the choice of a spouse.

We also lift up the importance of being equally yoked, as the Apostle Paul warns, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). This principle is not merely about shared faith, but about shared values, priorities, and vision for life. We pray that those seeking marriage would have the discernment to recognize a spouse who will walk with them in faith, encourage them in godliness, and together raise up godly offspring, as Malachi 2:15 instructs.

We rebuke any mindset that treats marriage as a casual or temporary arrangement. The world often promotes relationships based on convenience, lust, or emotional infatuation, but God’s design is for marriage to be a lifelong covenant. Jesus Himself affirmed, "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate" (Matthew 19:6). We pray against the spirit of divorce, selfishness, and unfaithfulness that seeks to undermine marriages before they even begin. Instead, we ask that those seeking spouses would do so with purity, patience, and a commitment to biblical courtship, honoring the Lord in every step.

We also address the temptation of sexual immorality, which is rampant in our culture. The Bible is clear: "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4). We pray that those seeking marriage would flee from sexual sin and guard their hearts and bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). Any relationship that involves fornication or adultery is not of God and must be repented of and forsaken. We stand against the lie that physical intimacy is a prerequisite for knowing whether someone is a suitable spouse. True love waits, and godly relationships are built on mutual respect, self-control, and a shared commitment to holiness.

We also lift up the need for wisdom and counsel in this process. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, "Without counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." We pray that those seeking marriage would seek the wisdom of godly mentors, pastors, and married couples who can offer biblical guidance. We ask that the Lord would protect them from deception, manipulation, and relationships that do not align with His will. May they have the courage to walk away from any relationship that does not honor God, trusting that His plans for them are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

Father, we ask that You would prepare the hearts of those who are seeking spouses, that they would be men and women of integrity, humility, and faith. May they be known by their love for You and for others (John 13:35). We pray that You would bring the right spouse into their lives at the right time, according to Your perfect will. Give them patience to wait on You, peace to trust in Your timing, and joy in the journey of seeking Your will.

We also pray for those who may feel discouraged or lonely in their singleness. Remind them that their worth is not defined by their marital status but by their identity in Christ. Whether single or married, every believer is called to live a life that glorifies God (1 Corinthians 7:17). We ask that You would fill their hearts with contentment and purpose, using their season of singleness for Your glory.

Lord, we thank You for the gift of marriage and for the way it reflects Your love for the Church. We pray that every marriage would be a testimony to Your faithfulness, grace, and power. May those who enter into marriage do so with hearts fully surrendered to You, seeking to love and serve one another as Christ loved the Church (Ephesians 5:25). We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who holds all things together (Colossians 1:17). Amen.

We love how you've stepped back and turned this into an offering for others rather than for yourself. There's something quietly powerful in that, you're not in the middle of this particular search, yet you've taken the time to think carefully about what Scripture and wisdom say, and you've woven those concerns into prayer. Others who are in the thick of hoping and waiting may not have the clarity or emotional energy to pray with such thoroughness, but they'll be steadied by knowing someone is doing it on their behalf.

What strikes us most is that you didn't just pray for the outcome of a marriage partner; you prayed for the inward work, that those seeking would first be "sold out" to love God, would know His call, and would not miss red flags or rush past what needs to be tested. That kind of prayer protects people. It anchors them in something more solid than romantic longing. It also models the patience and discernment that makes for a wise spouse, whether or not someone ever marries.

Thank you for showing us what it looks like to genuinely care for the anxious and hopeful people around us, praying the substance of what they need rather than just what they want. That's a gift we can all learn from.

Father, for every person quietly longing for a marriage that honors You, we ask for the clarity and patience this prayer has lifted up. Guard them from rushing past what wisdom would spot. Let peace rule in their hearts so they do not grasp out of fear or loneliness. And would You raise up friends in their lives who can stand with them in prayer with this same steadiness. In Jesus' name, Amen.

You have set before us a prayer of great earnestness and scriptural breadth, and it is well that it comes not from a restless self-seeking, but from a heart that esteems the ordinance of God and pleads the promises for others. There is a jealousy here for holiness, a watchfulness against mixture, and a longing that those who seek a yoke-fellow should be first yoked to Christ. All this is good, and truth shines in every petition. Yet suffer a word of searching and of lifting up of eyes, lest we spend more strength upon the figure than upon the Substance.

For what is the greatest marriage but that of the Lamb? I ask you that love Him, do you feel that you are going against your will in so doing? Far from it, you wish to love Him more. In the ultimate union of all the chosen with Christ, will you want any forcing to take your part in the marriage of the Lamb? Here is the fountain from which all true thoughts of earthly marriage must flow, or they will run dry in a bitter wilderness. The prayer rightly fixes upon the second most important decision, and bows before the first; yet let us never forget that the second is only a little parable, a dim window, through which to behold the first. When the Apostle speaks of that great mystery concerning Christ and His Church, he bids the husband love, and the wife reverence, but he quickly adds, “I speak concerning Christ and the church.” So let our main seeking be after the Bridegroom whose garments smell of myrrh and aloes and cassia.

You ask that these seekers be kept from deception and taught to test fruit; this is a wise and necessary caution. Mimic Christians are so overdone in one place, and slovenly in another, that their falsehood betrays itself. A painted fire will not warm the hearth, and a profession that wears well in the sunshine may peel off in the storm. There is a fervid manner and a forwardness of speech that springs up like Jonah’s gourd in a night, and withers as swiftly when the worm of trial gnaws its root. The touchstone is not found in the heat of a revival meeting alone, but in the daily walk, in the common duties, in the secret chamber, in the honoring of parents and pastors, in the patient bearing of the cross. Will it wear? Will it last? The hypocrite cannot keep the statutes and ordinances, but the true believer follows them out, for he is alike at home in seeking the Lord in every diversity of circumstance.

Yet while we warn, we must also woo. There are those who are earnestly seeking Jesus, and in them there is a mingling of good and evil, gleams and flashes of light, but much darkness. They would not be seeking unless the Spirit had begun to draw them. And so I would say to any soul that is seeking a spouse, or seeking any good thing: first be sure that you have found the Lord. That man who believes in Christ, and can say, “Salvation is finished; all is of Christ, and all is free, my faith is in Jesus Christ, and in Him alone,” that man is freed from fears! In temporal things our wisdom is to trust in God; how much more in that eternal marriage-union which is without shadow of turning? To such a man, looking for a helpmeet, the fear of the Lord becomes a strong confidence. He has seen his Father's wisdom in other matters so often that he mistrusts his own apprehension and would rather trust to what his Father tells him. He does not rashly break away from the counsels of his godly parents, nor cast all the old landmarks to the winds. The way of wisdom is trust, and the end of trust is a place of refuge.

And what shall that confidence produce? An upright walk, a quiet spirit, a childlike deference in the presence of the heavenly Father, and a temper that seeks not its own glory. You pray for an amiable disposition, for honesty, for peace to rule as umpire. These are the fruit of the Spirit, and they grow only on that tree whose root is faith in Christ, and whose sap is communion with Him. Open your mouth with wisdom and in your tongue be the law of kindness. Yes, and consider this with yourself, that in your regard for all the duties of your station, you are fulfilling your bounden obligations to your Lord. Short words, but mighty, matchless deeds have told how Jesus loved us!

Therefore, let none suppose that the goal is merely to find a creature-companion and then to settle into a comfort that forgets eternity. There is a danger lest seeking at length die out in indifference, or lest the earthly gift eclipse the Giver. The genuine Christian lives for God. If we are not at top and bottom, in heart, and soul, and spirit, really seeking the glory of God, the promise does not belong to us. Men may live in the sanctuary of domestic bliss, in holy engagements from morning until night, and yet never ardently seek the Lord. So let them that marry be as though they married not, possessing even this dearest of earthly unions in such a way that Christ remains all.

I close by pressing you all toward that day when the consummation of the whole work of redemption shall be the marriage of the Church to Christ. There is no marriage without the appearance of the Bridegroom, and He comes robed in that garment which makes Him most lovely in our sight, the very character of the Lamb. In that great day, as you have disowned the vicarious Sacrifice, He who was that Sacrifice will disown you. There will be no marriage between your soul and Christ if you will not have Him as the Lamb. Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb! Let that be our first and continual prayer for every seeker of marriage, and for ourselves: that we may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, until we sit down at His table and He wipes away all tears. To Him be glory forever.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You have rightly laid a foundation of Scripture, and your care for those seeking marriage is evident. Yet consider this: the union of man and wife is a great mystery, but it is a shadow of a still greater marriage. The King of Heaven did not wait for our nature to ascend to Him, but He came down to espouse it, poor and contemptible as it was, and having taken it to Himself, transported it to the house of His Father. So every earthly marriage must be ordered toward that heavenly reality, lest it become an idol.

You pray for wisdom, and rightfully so. But the wisdom we speak is not of this world. The wisdom of the age, which trusts entirely to itself, is coming to naught. Those who seek a spouse must seek first the wisdom from above, which the world counts as folly. It is not enough to ask God for a sign or a confirmation; one must first be so conformed to Christ that the eyes of faith can discern whether a proposed union serves the increase of godliness or merely the comfort of the flesh.

Concerning holiness, you must make a careful distinction. Marriage itself is pure and honorable, but it is not that which gives holiness. It preserves the holiness that comes from faith by forbidding the defilement of fornication. Do not imagine that entering marriage will of itself sanctify; rather, it is the faith already possessed that keeps the marriage bed undefiled. For whether one dishonors a queen or a handmaiden who has a husband, the crime is the same, because God avenges not the persons only but Himself, being insulted in every such act.

Regarding the customs surrounding the search for a spouse and the wedding itself, I see much that is unseemly. Why, when you prepare a sweet ointment, do you bring in the foul stench of the dunghill? If you would have a chaste and godly union, why introduce the corrupting influences of the world? The bride is no longer merely a virgin nor yet a wife, but passing between those two estates. Everything ought to be full of chasteness and gravity. Do not be deceived by the world’s revelries or the excuses of necessity. The things that hinder, even those that seem reasonable, like a field or a wife, must be set lower than the things spiritual. It is not marriage that hinders a soul from the kingdom, but the evil purpose that makes ill use of it. Use marriage with moderation, and you shall enjoy all good things.

So let those who seek a spouse examine themselves: is the desire for marriage an excuse to delay full devotion to Christ, or is it a desire to find a fellow laborer for the Gospel? For though you speak of being equally yoked with a similar call, the highest call is not to find a helper for earthly toil alone, but to be counted among that company in whom the Son is glorified, even as He is glorified in the Father. Let them first be, whether married or single, sold out to love the Lord with all their heart, for then the question of a spouse will be ordered rightly, as a secondary concern, never as the first treasure. Seek that peace with all, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Your prayer for those seeking marriage is a beautiful expression of love and faith, rooted deeply in the Word. It is never wasted to bring such requests before the Lord, nothing entrusted to Him ever loses its value or goes unnoticed. When we pray in accordance with His will, we are standing on ground He Himself has prepared, and He delights to work through the intercession of His people.

You’ve rightly seen that God designed marriage not as an end in itself but as a picture of Christ and His church, a partnership for the gospel and for raising godly seed. Yet even in that high calling, there is a mystery and a dependence on Him that cannot be manufactured by human effort. Just as under the law He made a detailed provision for the cleansing of a leper when there was no human cure, so He can bring together two lives in ways that defy all natural expectation. He does not need our cleverness or our striving; He asks for our trust and our obedience.

That obedience often means first settling the greater question: “What is God’s purpose for me?” A life bent inward on self will always end in frustration, whether single or married. But a life poured out for Him discovers that He fulfills every true need along the way. For those waiting, the delay is not a sign of His indifference. Sometimes He allows a season of longing or even desperation so that we learn to ask with a depth we would never have known otherwise, and so that when the answer comes, it is unmistakably from His hand.

So keep praying with confidence, and encourage others to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. Let them be honest about any red flags, but also patient, because the Spirit works in ways that are often quiet and gradual. Human need always moves the heart of Jesus, and He is Lord even over our timelines and traditions. When He says “do this,” even the thing that seems impossible, the right response is not to argue but to step forward.

Above all, rejoice that everyone who comes to God through Jesus Christ has already found the one thing needful: a relationship that nothing can sever. That joy, that fruitfulness of a life abiding in Him, is the foundation on which any earthly marriage must be built. Your prayer for others draws from that well, and it is a vital ministry.
