For the body of Christ for knowledge

Shalom It often feels as though the Body of Christ is preoccupied with itself, arguing over theological stances. Could you pray that God turns our gaze back to Christ—to what He has done for us and who He is—and that He grants us all true knowledge, in Jesus' name? (Eph 1:17–18; Col 1:9–10) Thank you very much! May God bless you in Jesus' name.

We join you in this burden for the Body of Christ and we thank you for bringing this request before the Lord in Jesus name. We share your longing that we would turn our eyes away from disputes and distractions and fix them firmly on Christ himself, on who He is and what He has accomplished for us on the cross.

You have prayed according to the will of God, for Scripture teaches us to pray for true spiritual knowledge and unity. We are reminded in Eph 1:17-18 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. And also in Col 1:9-10 For this cause, we also, since the day we heard this, do not cease praying and making requests for you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

It does grieve us when the Body becomes preoccupied with arguing over words and stances, and we are called instead to keep our gaze on Jesus. Heb 12:2 tells us to look to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. True knowledge is not merely intellectual debate but knowing Christ himself, as Jesus prayed in John 17:3 that they may know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ. When we truly know Him, we are made humble and eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace as we are urged in Eph 4:3, and we grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as written in 2 Pet 3:18.

We pray together with you now.

Father, in Jesus name we come before you and we ask that you would grant to your whole Body a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ. Enlighten the eyes of our hearts, Lord, that we may know the hope of your calling and the riches of your glory. Forgive us where we have been turned inward and contentious, and turn our gaze back to Jesus, to His finished work, His mercy, His holiness and His love. Fill us with the knowledge of your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that we may walk worthily of you, pleasing you in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of you. Draw us into deeper unity, away from quarrels, and into beholding Christ together, that the world may see His beauty in us. We ask this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We encourage you to continue in this faithful intercession, for God delights to answer prayers that seek His glory and the true knowing of His Son. May He bless you as you keep your own eyes fixed on Christ and grow in Him.

Thank you for carrying this concern for the church so tenderly. We feel the weight you describe when so much energy goes to defending positions, and we share your desire to see our eyes lifted again to Christ himself.

It is encouraging that your prayer is not simply for less arguing, but for more of Jesus, for a deeper knowing of who He is and what He has done for us. That kind of knowing grows slowly, more like training than trying to make a point in a moment. Little, faithful turnings toward Him in prayer, in the Word, and with one another shape us over a lifetime.

If it would help, you might live this prayer out in a very focused way this week. Choose your own congregation and perhaps one other community you have seen caught in debate, and bring them by name before the Lord each day, asking Him to make Christ clear and dear to them again.

Father, we bring Your people before You and ask You to turn our gaze to Jesus. Teach us to know Him more truly and to love Him above our differences. Make us gentle and united as we look to Him together. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have received your request with thankfulness and we join you in prayer before the throne of grace.

Your burden is one that many faithful souls have felt, that the people of God should be so occupied with disputes and distinctions among themselves that the eyes of the heart are turned aside from the great object of our faith. Yet we are reminded that true unity is not to be found in bringing all saints into one room or under one outward name, but in Christ. There are believers in every denomination and in no visible church at all who are in Christ Jesus, and consequently in the great unity for which He prayed. That unity is spiritual, and it is found when we all live upon the same heavenly bread and drink of the same well of life which comes from Christ Jesus.

You have asked well, that God would turn our gaze back to Christ, to what He has done for us and who He is. For the religion of our Lord Jesus Christ contains in it nothing so wonderful as Himself. He is the miracle of it, the wonder of wonders. Christ for us our full redemption, Christ in us the hope of glory, Christ with us our guide and solace, and Christ above us pleading for us. When the soul looks to Christ for salvation, when the eye of prayer and of holy longing is fixed upon Him, that glance has power to overcome the very heart of Christ, who delights to reveal Himself to those who seek Him.

Therefore we pray with you and for you, and for the whole body of Christ, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, that the eyes of our understanding being enlightened we may know what is the hope of His calling and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, as it is written in Ephesians 1:17 and 18. And we pray that we may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that we might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God, according to Colossians 1:9 and 10.

May the Holy Spirit grant us such a personal knowledge of Christ, revealed and made sure to the heart, that all lesser learning and all contentious questions shall sink into folly before His excellency, and that we may put on the Lord Jesus Christ and be found looking unto Him who is the same yesterday and today and forever. May He keep us gazing not upon ourselves but upon Jesus, whose love is infinite and whose grace is abundant, until we are made holy and so made truly one in Him.

We thank you for stirring us to pray in this way, and we ask the Lord to bless you and to keep you near to Jesus Christ Himself, who is the source of all our joy. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I join you in praying for the Body of Christ, that the Father of glory would turn our eyes away from ourselves and fix them again upon Christ.

I ask that according to Ephesians 1:17 to 18, God would give us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, that the eyes of our hearts would be enlightened to know the hope of His calling and the riches of His glory, and according to Colossians 1:9 to 10, that we would be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that we may walk worthy of the Lord and bear fruit in every good work and grow in that true knowledge.

For perfection is not in arguments or in wisdom of words, but in Christ, and in knowing what Christ has done for us. When we know Jesus Christ and Him crucified, when we remember that Christ is in us, the hope of glory, we learn to love one another and to keep the unity of the Spirit. The Church is one body, not divided, and we are members of that body throughout the world, called to be at peace with one another.

So I pray that God would teach and admonish us in all wisdom, that He would present us perfect in Christ Jesus, and that He would grant us grace to look to Christ alone, to rejoice in what He has accomplished, and to live in love and peace together. May He do this for His glory, in Jesus name, Amen.
