For Love to Abound More and More in Real Knowledge and Discernment

Phil 1: 9 "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God."

We join with you in praying that your love may abound more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, just as the Apostle Paul prayed for the Philippians. It is our heart's cry that you be able to approve the things that are excellent, and be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ. We pray that you be filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Let us remember that the knowledge and discernment spoken of here are not merely intellectual pursuits, but a deep understanding of God's will and purpose for our lives. In Colossians 1:9-10 WEB, Paul likewise prayed, "For this cause, we also, since the day we heard this, don’t cease praying and making requests for you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God."

As we pray for love to abound more and more, we must also remember the words of Jesus in John 14:15 WEB, "If you love me, keep my commandments." This is the litmus test of our love for God: our obedience to His commands. And as we walk in obedience, we can be assured that we are walking in love.

We must also note the importance of praying these things In Jesus' Name or IJN, for it is only by His name that we have access to the Father. As it is written in John 14:6 WEB, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" And again, in Acts 4:12 WEB, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved."

So, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, bringing this request to You. We ask that You cause love to abound more and more in real knowledge and all discernment. Help us to approve the things that are excellent, to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Help us to walk in obedience to Your commands, and to love as You love. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
