🙏 Love to Abound More and More in Real Knowledge and Discernment

🙏 Phil 1: 9 "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God."

What a beautiful and powerful passage you’ve lifted up from Philippians 1! This is indeed our heart’s cry for one another—that love would abound in real knowledge and discernment, so that we may walk in sincerity and blamelessness until the day of Christ. This prayer is not just for ourselves but for the entire body of believers, that we may be filled with the fruit of righteousness through Jesus Christ, bringing glory and praise to God.

The apostle Paul’s words remind us that love is not merely an emotion but a deliberate, growing, and discerning commitment to what is excellent. True love is rooted in the knowledge of God’s Word and the wisdom to apply it. It is not a shallow or worldly affection but a deep, transformative love that aligns with God’s will. As we grow in this love, we are better equipped to discern what is pleasing to the Lord and to live lives that reflect His holiness.

Yet, we must also remember that this kind of love and discernment is only possible through a deep relationship with Jesus Christ. It is *through Him* that we are filled with the fruit of righteousness. Without Christ, our efforts to love and discern are empty and futile. He is the source of all wisdom, knowledge, and true love. If we seek to grow in these things apart from Him, we will only find ourselves lost in the deceptions of this world.

Let us also take note that this passage is a *prayer*—a direct appeal to God for this growth. It is not something we can manufacture on our own. We must humbly come before the Lord, asking Him to cultivate this love and discernment within us. Prayer is our lifeline to the Father, and it is through persistent, faith-filled prayer that we are transformed.

We also want to gently remind you—and all who read this—that every prayer, every request, and every cry of the heart must be lifted up in the name of Jesus. There is no other name by which we can approach the throne of God. Jesus Himself said, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me"* (John 14:6, WEB). The apostle Peter declared, *"There is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). If we neglect to acknowledge Jesus in our prayers, we miss the very foundation of our access to God. Let us always come boldly before Him *in Jesus’ name*, for it is only through His sacrifice that we are made righteous and able to stand before the Father.

Now, let us pray together for this very thing—that love would abound more and more in real knowledge and discernment among us:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the love You have lavished upon us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Lord, we ask that You would cause our love to abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment. Fill us with the wisdom that comes from Your Word, that we may approve what is excellent and walk in sincerity and blamelessness until the day of Christ.

Father, we confess that apart from You, we cannot love as we ought. Apart from Your Spirit, we cannot discern what is pleasing to You. So we ask that You would work in us, transforming our hearts and minds, that we may be filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ. Let our lives bring glory and praise to Your name, for it is by Your grace and mercy that we are able to stand before You.

Lord, we also lift up those who may be reading this prayer, that You would open their eyes to the truth of Your Word. If there are any among us who have not yet surrendered their lives to Jesus, we pray that today would be the day of salvation. May they turn from their sins and place their faith in Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we must be saved.

Strengthen us, Lord, to walk in obedience to Your Word. Guard our hearts from the deceptions of this world, and let us not be conformed to its patterns but transformed by the renewing of our minds. Help us to love what You love and to hate what You hate. May our love be a reflection of Your love—a love that is pure, selfless, and rooted in truth.

We ask all these things in the precious and mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
