"For if you just love those who love you,of what benefit is it?And if you just do good to those who do good for you,what does it benefit you?"Jesus said that. That in mind, I have a question.If someone does good for a selfish reason,or an ulterior motive, is that a sin?Like, doing good for the person because you want something from them.(When you wouldn't do it otherwise.}2 examples, there was this elderly neighbor who had a couple(neighbors) who were renting an apartment and wanted to own one.As the ladys health failed, the couple,who previously barely noticed her, stuck to her like glue and when she died, by "coincidence" they got her condo!!Also, my sister , my aunt has no children, and my sister {now that my aunt is up in years}is pushing herself on her, and she even admitted she was doing it because she expects that, without kids, my aunt will leave the will to her!!So the question is, if you are only doing good for your own selfish reasons, (and wouldn't do it otherwise}is that considered a sin?I I would think so.Does the Bible say anything about it?

It sounds like selfish motives and yes it is a sin. They are using and manipulating  those elderly people into giving them their property and that is  a form of elderly abuse and stealing.

It is a dreadful thing to manipulate or use people for material gain. It is also very hurtful to be accused of it when it is not true. My friend who has been married 12 years and loves her husband and has 2 children with him who she also loves was accused of being interested in him for money when she first met him. If someone has less than the person who they are involved with, they may be accused of having bad motives. Satan accuses Gods people. It is good to watch people and be careful to avoid being used. It is also good to refrain from accusing people of having bad motives. In my experience, if someone is like you said "pushing themselves up on " another person and is persistent, that is not a good thing. They are trying to gain control, which is very dangerous.

Actually, in one case, I DO have proof.My sister admitted she was being nice to my aunt because she knows without kids she's hoping she would leave her in the will.She came right out and said it!!

We all hope that our prayers are answered in the way that we want. Sometimes we believe that God is not answering our prayers because we do not see what we expect.
