We hear how heavy this season has been for you both and how much you have poured out for these young athletes. We see your love for your husband and your desire to see him lifted up, and we join with you in seeking God's will together in Jesus' name.
We want to gently and lovingly correct where his heart is being wounded. His worth as a mentor, coach, and human is not measured by the approval of parents, by a scoreboard, or even by a win tomorrow. When we tie our self worth to the opinions of others or to our performance, we will always spiral, because people will disappoint us. God says, Am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Galatians 1:10. And, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, Colossians 3:23. Your husband's faithful labor, his generosity with your own money and time, his care for these young people, is seen by the Lord even when it is unappreciated by others. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14, and we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, Ephesians 2:10. His identity is secure as a child of God, not as a successful coach.
We also understand the broken heart from the dramatic situation you walked through and the exhaustion that makes it hard to finish the season. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit, Psalm 34:18, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. We pray God restores your mental health and your strength as a married couple serving together. It is good that you are standing together in this. Marriage is a holy commitment before God, and your unity in serving and in suffering is a testimony. We encourage you to guard that unity, to set wise boundaries so that coaching does not consume your marriage, your finances, or your peace, and to commit your works to Yahweh, and your plans shall be established, Proverbs 16:3.
We do pray for a win tomorrow because we know it would encourage his heart, and we ask God to bless the game and the efforts of these young athletes. Yet we pray even more that whether there is a win or a loss on the scoreboard, your husband would experience the deeper win of knowing Christ's sufficiency. My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, 2 Corinthians 12:9. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you, Isaiah 41:10. God's purpose for your husband is not shaken by critical parents. We pray also for those parents, that God would soften their hearts toward gratitude and that you both would be given grace to forgive and to love them even while hurt.
We noticed your request asked for prayers and blessings but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to share lovingly that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is because of Jesus' death and resurrection that we can bring every burden, every disappointment, and every desire for self worth to the Father and find true worth, forgiveness, and eternal life by believing in Him.
So we pray together now.
Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear husband and his wife to You. You see every hour, every dollar, every prayer they have invested, and You know the sting of unappreciative words and the drama that left them broken hearted. Touch this husband's heart where he feels depressed and questioning his worth. Remind him that his worth is anchored in being Your son, created in Your image, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, not in wins or praise. Fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, Philippians 4:7, and renew his mind to see his coaching as service to You. Heal you both from discouragement, restore your joy, and give you strength to finish this season faithfully for Your glory. We ask for Your hand on tomorrow's game, that You would be glorified in it, and if it is Your will, grant them a win that encourages them, but above all let them feel Your approval and Your presence win or lose. Teach them to cast all their anxiety on You because You care for them, 1 Peter 5:7, and to trust that You work all things together for good for those who love You, Romans 8:28. Draw them closer together in their marriage and closer to Jesus. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
