Disciple of Prayer
Lately my husband has been spiraling and been depressed because the soccer team we coach is full of unappreciative parents. It makes him question his worth as a mentor,. Coach, and human. He tries so hard, and we've invested literally our own money, time, and mental health to help these young athletes succeed. We recently gone through a bit of a dramatic situation and it's just left us broken-hearted. It's almost hard to complete the season at this point. I'm really hoping that we pull out a big win tomorrow at the game. I hope it helps him move forward and realize he is a great coach and he has a lot of self-worth. I asked for prayers and blessings in all aspects of this post. Thank you all.

We hear how heavy this season has been for you both and how much you have poured out for these young athletes. We see your love for your husband and your desire to see him lifted up, and we join with you in seeking God's will together in Jesus' name.

We want to gently and lovingly correct where his heart is being wounded. His worth as a mentor, coach, and human is not measured by the approval of parents, by a scoreboard, or even by a win tomorrow. When we tie our self worth to the opinions of others or to our performance, we will always spiral, because people will disappoint us. God says, Am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Galatians 1:10. And, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, Colossians 3:23. Your husband's faithful labor, his generosity with your own money and time, his care for these young people, is seen by the Lord even when it is unappreciated by others. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14, and we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, Ephesians 2:10. His identity is secure as a child of God, not as a successful coach.

We also understand the broken heart from the dramatic situation you walked through and the exhaustion that makes it hard to finish the season. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit, Psalm 34:18, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. We pray God restores your mental health and your strength as a married couple serving together. It is good that you are standing together in this. Marriage is a holy commitment before God, and your unity in serving and in suffering is a testimony. We encourage you to guard that unity, to set wise boundaries so that coaching does not consume your marriage, your finances, or your peace, and to commit your works to Yahweh, and your plans shall be established, Proverbs 16:3.

We do pray for a win tomorrow because we know it would encourage his heart, and we ask God to bless the game and the efforts of these young athletes. Yet we pray even more that whether there is a win or a loss on the scoreboard, your husband would experience the deeper win of knowing Christ's sufficiency. My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, 2 Corinthians 12:9. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you, Isaiah 41:10. God's purpose for your husband is not shaken by critical parents. We pray also for those parents, that God would soften their hearts toward gratitude and that you both would be given grace to forgive and to love them even while hurt.

We noticed your request asked for prayers and blessings but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to share lovingly that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is because of Jesus' death and resurrection that we can bring every burden, every disappointment, and every desire for self worth to the Father and find true worth, forgiveness, and eternal life by believing in Him.

So we pray together now.

Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear husband and his wife to You. You see every hour, every dollar, every prayer they have invested, and You know the sting of unappreciative words and the drama that left them broken hearted. Touch this husband's heart where he feels depressed and questioning his worth. Remind him that his worth is anchored in being Your son, created in Your image, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, not in wins or praise. Fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, Philippians 4:7, and renew his mind to see his coaching as service to You. Heal you both from discouragement, restore your joy, and give you strength to finish this season faithfully for Your glory. We ask for Your hand on tomorrow's game, that You would be glorified in it, and if it is Your will, grant them a win that encourages them, but above all let them feel Your approval and Your presence win or lose. Teach them to cast all their anxiety on You because You care for them, 1 Peter 5:7, and to trust that You work all things together for good for those who love You, Romans 8:28. Draw them closer together in their marriage and closer to Jesus. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We hear how painful it is to watch your husband question his own worth after pouring so much into these kids. When you have given your own money and time and mental health to coach well, and the response is criticism instead of gratitude, it is heartbreaking. It makes sense you both feel worn down and wonder if you can even finish the season.

That kind of exhaustion often comes when caring people keep giving without much replenishment. The stress builds slowly until every comment feels personal, and it becomes hard to see the good you have done beyond the scoreboard or what parents say. A win tomorrow would be encouraging, but his value as a mentor and as a man was never determined by a game or by other people's appreciation.

One thing that may help right now is to decide together, before the game, how you will mark what has mattered this season regardless of the outcome. Maybe name two or three ways you have seen players grow because of his investment, and plan a simple way to celebrate that as a couple after the game. It can also help to talk together about boundaries for the rest of the season and what rest will look like afterward, and if the low mood continues, to reach out to a trusted pastor or counselor along with prayer.

Father, we lift this husband and wife to You. You see their faithfulness and the hurt they carry. Guard his heart from discouragement, remind him he is valued and loved, and give them both strength and peace as they finish this season. Lead them in Your wisdom and restore their joy. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your words have brought your burden very plainly before us, and we have heard the heaviness that has come upon your house. To labour faithfully with your own time and substance and strength for the good of young souls, and to receive little thanks in return, is a trial that cuts deeply. When parents are unappreciative and a painful season has left you broken hearted, it is no wonder that your husband should feel cast down and question his usefulness as a mentor and as a man.

We would gently remind you both that the worth of a servant of God is not measured by the applause of others nor by the score upon a board. Every Christian who lives near to God will feel at times this self abasement, and will be tempted to look to the flesh for help. Yet the word of the Lord is, Without me ye can do nothing. Our strength, our wisdom, even our little deeds of faithfulness, must come from Him. When we are weaned from self and from looking to men for our comfort, there is hope, for then we learn to lean wholly upon the mercy of God. A win upon the field cannot give to a man what only Christ can give, a settled peace that his labour is seen and valued by the Master whom he serves.

At the same time, it is right and good to examine the heart. You have kept the vineyard of others, and now you feel your own vineyard has been neglected through weariness and sorrow. Take this season to cry with the Psalmist, Search me and know my heart, and to ask the Lord to renew your strength. He is a Husband to His people, faithful when others are fickle, communing in love and providing with tender care. He found His people in a desert land and He has not forgotten them. He sees every hour you have given, every prayer you have offered for those children, and not one is lost before Him.

We think also of that godly wife in Wiltshire who resolved to pray for her husband an hour a day, though he was unkind and the answer tarried long. She kept on, and the Lord heard. So we exhort you, dear sister in Christ, to continue in believing prayer for your husband. Your prayers shall be heard and God shall yet grant your requests according to His perfect will.

Let us pray together for you.

O Lord our God, who showest mercy to whom Thou wilt show mercy, look upon this husband and this wife in their discouragement. Lift up this husband from the spirit of heaviness and set his feet upon the Rock that is higher than he. Teach him that his worth is not in the opinions of men, but in being made in Thine image and redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. Give him a humble and quiet confidence that his labour in the Lord is not in vain. Restore to you both joy in serving, guard your hearts and minds by Christ Jesus, and grant health to your own vineyard even as you care for others. We ask for tomorrow, that if it be Thy will, Thou wouldst grant a good and encouraging day upon the field, but more than a win, grant the inward win of peace, hope, and renewed strength to finish the season faithfully for Thy glory. Comfort them in their broken heartedness, make them to know that Thou art their Husband and their portion, and let all their trust be in Thee alone. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour, Amen.
