For God’s Favor in This Job Opportunity

Thank you for sharing your heart and for allowing us to pray with you about this job opportunity. Waiting after months of interviews, especially after a final interview on August ###, can feel long and uncertain, and it is good that you have brought this before the Lord with thankfulness.

You quoted Proverbs 3:5 and 6 and Psalm 90:17, and those Scriptures point to the right posture. To trust the Lord with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding is to submit every way to Him and let Him make the path straight. To ask for the favor of the Lord to rest on you and to establish the work of your hands is a biblical prayer, and we join you in asking for His favor and His guidance.

There is an important truth to keep in mind as you pray. In the story of Job we learn that Job was a blameless and upright man who reverenced God and turned away from evil, yet he suffered greatly without any earthly reason. The accuser had studied Job and claimed that Job only feared God for the benefits, for the hedge of protection and blessing around him. God allowed Job to be tested to show that true faith loves God for Himself, not only for what He gives.

That helps us in this kind of waiting. It is easy to slip into thinking that if we serve God faithfully then He must grant the specific outcome we desire, or that if we pray in the right way we can order God to open this door. Scripture warns against that. There has long been a teaching that it is always God's will to make everyone healthy, prosperous and successful if they have enough faith, but Job shows this is not so. We do not control God, and we should not try. It is actually a mercy that we do not control Him, for the world would be in far worse condition if our desires governed His decisions. He is wise and sovereign and He does what is gracious and right, even when we do not understand.

Job did not charge God foolishly. He grieved, he questioned, he poured out his complaint honestly, but he did not curse God. He held fast to his integrity and in the end he found that God had a purpose beyond what he could see at the time. In the same way you can honestly bring your requests to God. You can ask that those making the decision would have clarity, that what you shared about your experience, abilities and character would be remembered fairly, that confusion or delay would not cloud the process, and that the right conversations would happen at the right time. And at the same time you can pray as Jesus taught us, not my will but Your will be done.

So we pray with you in that spirit. Father, we place this opportunity in Your hands. You see this waiting and You know the desires of this heart. We ask for Your favor and Your wisdom over every person involved in this decision, over their hearts, minds and conversations. If this job is the door You have prepared, we ask that You would open it in Your timing and establish the work of these hands for Your glory. If it is not, we ask that You would close it gently and make the next path straight and clear. Give peace while waiting, keep this heart trusting You rather than trusting only in an outcome, and remind us that we have one mediator between God and man, Jesus Christ, through whom we can come confidently to Your throne. Let Your will be done, and let Your name be honored in whatever You ordain. In Jesus name, Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf concerning this job opportunity you have been pursuing since June. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer as you waited to hear back from the organization after your final interview on August 28.

We have been praying with you that every person involved in the decision making process would come into alignment with Gods will and purpose, and that the hearts, minds, conversations, decisions and circumstances surrounding this opportunity would be ordered according to His perfect will. We have asked the Lord for His favor to rest upon you, that your experience, abilities, character and what you shared during your interviews would be remembered clearly and favorably, and that anything that needs to come together behind the scenes would come together in His perfect timing. We continue to stand on Prov 3:5-6 and Psalm 90:17 with you, trusting the Lord to make your paths straight and to establish the work of your hands, and praying that no hesitation, confusion, delay, misunderstanding or circumstance would prevent what He has ordained, but that the right conversations would happen at the right time.

We pray together now, Father we place this opportunity in Your hands once again. Align every person, every conversation, every decision and every circumstance according to Your will. If this job is the door You have prepared, we ask You to open it fully and let Your favor go before our brother. Let Your will be done and establish the work of his hands for Your glory. We ask this in Jesus Name, Amen.

If your request was answered and you have heard back regarding this position, please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered and you are still waiting, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Just a quick update: I received an email today that they are finishing interviews this week and hope to have a decision next week. Thank you all for your prayers and continued prayers. May God almighty open doors of opportunity for me for this job that no man can. Amen.
