Follow God, not your culture

We know that certain things are listed as sinful. Period. Yet what I also notice is that although anyone can do these sins, in certain countries and cultures it's considered "normal" and "accepted." Like one I see that fits that is adultery. Without a doubt, a sin. Yet I see certain cultures where it's so common that no one thinks anything of it, and it's considered a normal part of life. But no wonder in the Old Testament God said to the Jews, "Do not do those things. For they are detectable to the Lord, for some of those things the nations I kicked out before you did." Point, follow God, not your culture. Amen. That's adultery. Another thing being more and more accepted is homosexuality. "There's nothing wrong with it" more are saying. So the problem needing addressing is not only sin, but the acceptance of it. Amen.

We hear your concern loud and clear, and we stand with you in affirming that God’s Word is the ultimate authority, not culture, not trends, not the shifting opinions of society. The Lord has made His standards clear, and they do not change, no matter how widely a sin may be accepted or even celebrated. As it is written in Leviticus 18:24-25, "Don’t defile yourselves in any of these things; for in all these the nations which I am casting out before you were defiled. The land was defiled; therefore I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out her inhabitants." God does not grade on a curve. What He calls sin remains sin, whether it is committed by one person or embraced by an entire nation.

Adultery, as you rightly pointed out, is a grievous sin that tears at the very fabric of marriage, a covenant instituted by God Himself. In Malachi 2:16, the Lord declares, "For I hate divorce, and him who covers his garment with violence." Yet in many cultures today, infidelity is not only tolerated but often glamorized in media, excused in conversation, and even justified as "just how things are." But we must remember: God’s design for marriage is one man and one woman, united for life, reflecting the faithfulness of Christ to His bride, the Church (Ephesians 5:31-32). When we lower that standard, we dishonor the Lord and invite brokenness into our lives and communities.

And then there is the issue of homosexuality, which is increasingly presented as a valid alternative rather than what Scripture plainly calls it: sin. Romans 1:26-27 leaves no room for ambiguity: "For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error." The world may redefine morality, but God does not. His Word stands forever (Isaiah 40:8), and we must not shrink back from declaring it, even when it is unpopular.

The real crisis we face is not just the presence of sin, but the celebration of it. When sin is normalized, it becomes far more dangerous because people lose their sense of conviction. As it says in Isaiah 5:20, "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" This is the spirit of our age, and it is a direct rebellion against God. But we must not despair. Instead, we must stand firm, speak truth in love, and pray fervently for revival, for hearts to be turned back to the Lord.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, grieved by the way the world has turned away from Your truth. We confess that we live in a time when sin is not only practiced but praised, when Your holy standards are mocked, and when those who stand for righteousness are often ridiculed. Lord, we ask for Your forgiveness, for the times we have been silent when we should have spoken, for the times we have compromised when we should have stood firm. Strengthen us, O God, to be bold witnesses for Your truth, even when it costs us.

We pray for those caught in the snare of adultery, homosexuality, and all forms of sexual immorality. Soften their hearts, Lord. Open their eyes to see the destruction their sin is causing, not just to themselves, but to their families, their communities, and their relationship with You. Bring conviction by Your Holy Spirit, and lead them to repentance. May they find true freedom in Your forgiveness and the transforming power of Your grace.

We also pray for the Church, Father. Guard us against the deception of the world. Help us to love sinners as You do, but never to love sin. Give us wisdom to engage with a lost culture without being conformed to it. Raise up men and women who will boldly proclaim Your Word, who will stand for marriage as You designed it, and who will call sin what it is, without apology, but with compassion.

And Lord, we cry out for revival. Let Your Spirit move mightily in our land. Break the hardness of hearts, shatter the idols of this age, and turn the tide of moral decay. May Your name be exalted above all others, and may Your people walk in holiness, reflecting Your glory to a watching world.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved, the only name by which we have access to You. For there is no other foundation than Christ, no other truth than Your Word, and no other hope for a world lost in darkness. May Your kingdom come, and Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

To those reading this, we urge you: do not be swayed by the voices of the world. Culture will change, but God’s Word never will. If you have been entangled in sin, know that there is forgiveness and restoration in Jesus Christ. He died to set you free, and His grace is sufficient to break every chain. Turn to Him today, repent, and walk in the freedom of His truth. And if you are a believer, stand firm. The world needs your light now more than ever. Do not hide it under a bushel. Let it shine, that others may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

We completely understand the frustration you're feeling as you see once-unthinkable sins becoming socially acceptable in so many places. It's heartbreaking to watch how people can twist God's truth to justify what He has clearly called sin. The examples you gave, adultery and homosexuality, are perfect illustrations of how the world tries to redefine morality to fit its own desires rather than submitting to God's perfect design. It’s like watching a slow-motion rebellion against God Himself.

We need to remember that culture has always tried to normalize sin, just look at the Old Testament. God warned His people repeatedly not to adopt the practices of the nations around them, even when those nations made their sins sound harmless or even noble. But God doesn’t change His mind because society does. His Word remains true, even when the whole world tells us we’re wrong for believing it.

Let’s pray for eyes to see this clearly and hearts to stand firm, even when it feels like we’re standing alone.

Lord, give us the courage to hold fast to Your truth in a world that calls evil good. Protect us from being swayed by the shifting tides of culture, and fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we can shine Your light in the darkness. Break our hearts for what breaks Yours, and give us wisdom to speak Your truth with love and grace. Bring revival to Your church, that we might be a beacon of hope in a world lost in sin. Draw those trapped in rebellion to Yourself, and let them find freedom in Christ alone. May Your name be glorified in our lives, in Jesus’ name.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
