This world has really turned for the worse ### won’t budge on their stance on lifting the ### late fee when I pleaded with them and told them I would make a double payment if they delete that unwarranted charge. Please Lord have them reconsider. Touch hardened hearts this world is really going to hell in a hand basket

We hear your frustration, and we stand with you in seeking justice and mercy in this situation. The world can indeed feel cold and unyielding, especially when we encounter systems and people who seem unwilling to show grace. But we know that our hope is not in this world, it is in the Lord, who sees all and judges righteously.

First, we must address the foundation of your plea. You call upon "Lord," but we must ask: Have you called upon the name of Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man? There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and receive the gift of eternal life (Romans 10:9-10). Only then can you approach the throne of grace with confidence (Hebrews 4:16).

Now, let us lift this situation to the Lord together. Father, we come before You, acknowledging that You are the ultimate Judge and the One who softens hearts. We ask that You intervene in this matter of the unjust late fee. Lord, You see the sincerity of this request and the desire to honor commitments. We pray that You would touch the hearts of those in authority, that they would show mercy and reconsider this charge. Soften their hardened hearts, Lord, and let them see the value of grace over rigid policy.

We also pray for wisdom and patience. Proverbs 21:1 tells us, "The king’s heart is in the Lord’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires." If it is Your will, Lord, turn their hearts toward mercy. But if this charge stands, give strength and provision to meet the obligation without bitterness. Help us to trust in Your provision, for You know our needs before we even ask (Matthew 6:8).

We must also rebuke the spirit of frustration and despair that whispers, "This world is going to hell in a handbasket." While it is true that the world grows darker, we are called to be light (Matthew 5:14). Do not let the actions of others steal your peace or your faith. Instead, fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). The systems of this world are flawed, but God’s justice and mercy endure forever.

Finally, we encourage you to examine your own heart. Are there areas where you, too, have been rigid or unforgiving? Jesus taught us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Matthew 6:14-15). Let this situation refine you, not embitter you. And if you have not yet placed your faith in Christ, do so today. For only in Him can we find true justice, mercy, and peace.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this situation to You, asking for Your divine intervention. Soften the hearts of those who have the power to show mercy, and give wisdom and patience to the one who seeks justice. Lord, we know that You are just and that You care for the oppressed. Provide for this need, and let Your will be done. If this charge is meant to teach a lesson, grant the grace to receive it with humility. If it is meant to be removed, move in power to make it so.

We also pray for a heart that trusts in You, not in the systems of this world. Help us to walk in faith, knowing that You are our Provider and our Defender. Guard our hearts from bitterness and despair, and fill us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

A reasonable person may still choose to waive the fee as a goodwill gesture. At the same time, know that if the answer remains no, your peace is not held hostage by a late fee. You’ve done what you can; the rest can rest with God.

We’re praying that whoever reviews this would have a softening of heart, not because you forced it, but because God sometimes nudges people toward reason and mercy. And we’re asking for your own heart to feel steadied, not hardened, by this disappointment. The world’s brokenness is real, but small mercies break through too, and we hope you see one soon.

Let not your heart be troubled over this late fee, as though some strange thing had happened unto you. The world lieth in the wicked one, and you will meet with many a crooked dealing before you reach the Celestial City. I do not wonder that your spirit is stirred, for it is a sore trial when men refuse reason and mercy alike. Yet, remember, your heavenly Father pleads your cause. He knows what you have need of before you ask Him, and He will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able. Cast this burden upon the Lord; He will sustain you.

You plead with men and they will not budge. Now, then, take your case to a higher court. Plead with God! But let your pleading be after the manner of the Psalmist: not merely that the charge be removed, but that in this trial you may be conformed to the image of Christ, who, when He was reviled, reviled not again. It is good for a man to bear the yoke in his youth, and it is good for a child of God to bear such petty grievances that he might learn patience. Temptation and trial let us know how weak we are, and drive us to our knees. I have often found that a long wintry season of disappointments was the best medicine for my proud heart.

Do not think I am hard-hearted toward your distress; I bear you upon my heart. But I would have you look beyond the sixpence and the shilling to the eternal weight of glory. What are these transient troubles compared with the resurrection of the just? If you are in Christ, this light affliction is but for a moment. If you are not, then a greater charge stands against you than any late fee, the debt of your sin. May the Spirit make you more earnest about that than about earthly grievances.

Yet I would not have you imagine prayer is useless. Far from it! Let us agonize together for these hardened hearts. The God who broke the flinty rock in the wilderness can soften the stubbornest soul. Plead the blood of Jesus, which unlocks heaven’s treasury, and cry, “For Thy name’s sake, and for Thy mercy’s sake, have pity!” He delights to answer such prayers. Perhaps He will move them to relent; perhaps He will give you such peace that the charge will seem a trifle. Either way, it will be for your good and His glory.

In the meantime, let your soul sing, even in its barrenness. For the joy of those who have felt their own hardness and been brought low is, by and by, greater than the joy of those who never knew such need. He gives beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning. Take these promises; they are for mourners, for the needy, for the outcast. Lay hold of them and cease from fretting. The world is indeed going astray, but the Lord is not slack concerning His promise. He will come, and His reward is with Him. Until then, witness for Christ by your patience and forgive them their debt, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. That will be more powerful than a thousand angry words.

You pleaded with them, offering double payment, yet they would not budge. This is a heavy trial, but guard against allowing the hardness of others to harden your own heart. Christ commands us to love our enemies and pray for those who despitefully use us. He sends rain on the just and the unjust; so we must show mercy even when none is shown to us. Nothing becomes a Christian more than mercy, for we ourselves need mercy from God every day: “Have mercy on me, O Lord, according to Your great goodness.”

Do not be overly anxious about why they refuse, nor let suspicion poison you. Act with the simple faith of the widow who fed Elijah; she did not scrutinize his worthiness, and she received a blessing. Make your payment, if you still can, not as a bribe, but as a witness of your integrity, and if they persist in refusing, leave the matter in God’s hands. Pray for them, for a word from Scripture has power to soften the most hardened soul, more than fire softens wax. But beware: a soul given over to resentment becomes insensible, like a callous that feels nothing. The world may indeed seem to be hurtling toward ruin, yet we are set here to be salt and light. Do not despair. Remember Paul, who called himself the chief of sinners, yet obtained mercy so that all might have hope. Let this small injustice teach you patience and mercy, and you will be a child of your Father in heaven.

It is easy to feel trampled when a system refuses to bend and a heart seems made of stone. You pleaded your case, offered to make it right, and still met a wall. That frustration cuts deep, especially when it seems like the whole world is spiraling downward. But in moments like this, our prayer shifts away from demanding what is fair and toward a deeper cry. If we got strict justice from God every time, we would all be undone. Mercy is not getting what we deserve, and grace is getting what we could never earn. So keep asking, not because God is reluctant and needs to be worn down like that crooked judge in the parable, but precisely because He is not like that at all. Jesus told that story not to compare God to an unjust official, but to contrast them. If even a calloused, godless man can be moved by persistence, how much more will your Father, who delights in mercy, respond to you.

God is always looking for an excuse to show mercy. That is what the Scriptures keep telling us in a hundred different ways: His mercy endures forever. The same phrase rolls like thunder through the Psalms, attached to creation, deliverance, and daily provision. The problem is never that His mercy has run dry. The tragedy comes when people harden their hearts so many times that they can no longer hear. You are right to pray for those hardened hearts to be touched, because only God can soften what we have made rigid. But be careful that your own heart does not grow hard in the process. The bitterness, the sense that everything is going to hell, can become its own kind of idol inside us, something we brood on more than we seek God’s face. The Lord sees the idols that sit not on a shelf but in the heart. He knows when we are fixated on the injustice done to us rather than on His presence.

So bring this unwarranted charge to Him again. Ask Him to remember you according to His mercy, for His goodness’ sake. You are not coming before a harsh magistrate to argue a case; you are coming before a Father whose mercy is as high as the heavens and whose truth endures forever. The beautiful mystery is that mercy and truth met together in Jesus Christ. At the cross, the penalty for all brokenness was paid, so that God could be both just and the justifier of the one who trusts Him. That means His mercy toward you is not a flimsy sentiment but a rock-solid reality. Let that truth steady your heart even more than the late fee being lifted. Keep praying. Keep trusting. And as you wait, let your own heart rest in the mercy that has already been poured out for you, rather than letting this world’s flaws make your spirit brittle.
