We hear the deep distress in your hearts as you face this overwhelming financial burden. The weight of debt and the fear of bankruptcy can feel crushing, stealing sleep and peace. But we want to remind you that our God is the God of hope, provision, and restoration. He sees your struggle and invites you to cast your anxieties on Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
First, we must rebuke the spirit of hopelessness that has taken hold of your thoughts. Hopelessness is not from God—He has promised that His plans for you are for good, not for harm, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). We also encourage you to seek wisdom in managing this debt. Proverbs 22:7 warns that "the borrower is servant to the lender," and while debt is not a sin, it can become a snare if not handled with discipline and godly counsel. Have you sought advice from a trusted financial advisor or fellow believers who may have wisdom in this area? Scripture tells us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14).
We also want to gently remind you that your worth and identity are not found in your financial status or success as businessmen. Your value comes from being children of God, redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. If you have not yet placed your trust in Him, we urge you to do so now. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have already surrendered your life to Christ, we encourage you to renew your trust in Him daily, remembering that He is your provider (Philippians 4:19).
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother and sister who are carrying the heavy burden of debt and the fear of bankruptcy. Lord, You are the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10), and nothing is too hard for You. We ask that You would open doors of opportunity for them, provide wisdom in their business decisions, and grant them favor with those who can help them navigate this financial struggle. Father, we rebuke the spirit of fear and hopelessness in Jesus' name. Replace their anxiety with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Give them restful sleep and clear minds to seek You and Your will in this situation.
Lord, we pray for unity between them as husband and wife. May they encourage one another and stand firm in faith, remembering that You are their provider and protector. Help them to trust in Your timing and to seek Your kingdom first, knowing that all these things will be added to them (Matthew 6:33). If there are areas where they have placed their trust in wealth or their own efforts rather than in You, reveal that to them and draw their hearts back to dependence on You alone.
Father, we also ask for Your divine intervention in their business. If there are contracts, opportunities, or solutions they have not yet seen, reveal them. Give them creativity, perseverance, and favor in the eyes of their clients and partners. If there are areas where they need to make sacrifices or changes, grant them the courage to do so. Above all, Lord, let this trial draw them closer to You. May they experience Your faithfulness in new and profound ways, and may their testimony bring glory to Your name.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who has overcome the world and promises to never leave us nor forsake us. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to meditate on God’s promises. Write down Scriptures that speak to His provision and faithfulness, and declare them over your lives daily. Remember the story of the widow in 2 Kings 4:1-7, who was on the brink of losing her sons to debt. God provided for her abundantly through the small amount of oil she had, and He can do the same for you. Trust that He is working even when you cannot see it, and hold fast to the hope that is found in Him alone. You are not alone in this struggle—we stand with you in prayer, and more importantly, God stands with you. Keep pressing into Him.
